We specifically stated my wife’s allergy to tomatoes and two dishes served were “tomato-free” yet her 15 hours of misery to date say otherwise.

No warm feeling from the staff and staff didn't know the real names of the traditional Indonesian dishes such as "rendang". Staff was only able to speak english. Food was OK but it was not enough for 2 adult males. Dessert menu was very limited without dishes such as "spekkoek".

Mama ‘akan is a favourite for reistafel when I am in Amsterdam. This visit, unfortunately, the food seemed less than the usual amazing quality. Perhaps an off night?

We've had the vegan rijsttafel for the third time and it was fantastic again. Such great food and a lot of it! We’ve enjoyed our evening at Mamamakan tremendously, also because of the great care of Gordon our waiter.

Food was ok but rice to food was off. Just one bowl of white rice and one bowl of fried rice for the many entrees. It’s too salty to eat alone but you can ask more white rice. Wasn’t sure if it was because we had our toddler with us but we were seated far away from others in the back. It was nice in case our toddler was making noise and I wouldn’t have minded but NO ONE came to check on us the entire time. I literally had to get up and walk over to near the kitchen to call the wait staff to ask for more rice. No one came when we finish and it was so hard to get attn of wait staff bc we were the only people in the back. Terrible service. The ambiance is nice but you can def find better indo food somewhere else. It may not be “fancy” but better value and taste. Overall would not recommend.

Food was delicious and great to experience the Indonesian cuisine. Paying quite a lot I would have expected better service. We had to try call over a waiter from start to finish if we wanted drinks, extras or the bill. Once they were at the table they were very friendly though

Both my husband and I had bad stomachs after eating here. He’s coeliac and so must have had his food contaminated. Front of house also was rude to my husband. Think he must be new and inexperienced

I went with my girlfriend as a special date and we enjoyed the food a lot. It was a very memorable date night. The variety of dishes was superb and the ambience was good. The staff were very professional.

The food was very delicious and the waitress was nice and helpful. The tables were a bit small because of all the food that needed to be placed. Also the waitress didn't explain the concept she could have done that at the beginning.

Bij binnenkomst al kom je helemaal in de sferen en ruik je de heerlijke geuren van het eten. Die geuren worden vervolgens omgezet in smaken, we hebben zó lekker gegeten hier. In combinatie met de ambiance en aandachtige service hebben we een hele fijne avond gehad. We komen zeker weten nog eens terug!

Said we wanted some cocktails first and then wine/dinner. Before we had any drinks, the food was already on the table and then we still had to wait for the cocktails which all came 10 minutes apart from each other. Overall bad experience with mediocre food. Left after 45 minutes.

Website advertised fixed price p.p. for the Rice Table @ 42 euros - but on arrival the only menu presented also included a starter and desert making the total fixed price 62 euros p.p. which, for a group of 4 made a difference of 80 euros (no small sum). One of our group did not want a desert so asked for 2 starters instead, but the request was refused. We were quickly seated then waited 45 minutes before our drinks order was taken. Service was poor. Ambience was noisy. Food was mediocre. Would not recommend. Would not book again.

Delicious food in a to noisy atmosphere. It was too late to cancel, the Barrack 51 special evening was not mentioned on the internet. A normal conversation was due to the to high volume of the music not possible. Will give it another try for the marvelous food.

Expensive average Indonesian banquet where you have to order the tasting menu with no option to order individual dishes. Friendly knowledgeable serving team and nice comfortable seating. Pricey wine list and have had way better Indonesian food for less.

After dining at the usual suspects for rijsttafel, I thought I would try Mama Makan. The interior is beautiful and lush inside. Our server was prompt and polite. We ordered the meat/fish rijsttafel. The food came out quickly and was presented on a two tier wooden tray. To get to the point, the food was a hard pass. Meats were dry. The food was lukewarm/cold. Sauces were not flavorful. It is hard for me to imagine bland Indonesian food, but we found it at Mama Makan. I left the restaurant after the meal and promptly cancelled my future reservations there. With so many great choices for rijsttafel in Amsterdam, I’ll not return to Mama Makan.
