I stumbled upon this place and decided to give it a try and I am very happy that I did. The front entrance is a bit strange almost like a speak easy and then the doors opens to a beautiful restaurant with abstract art that energizes the room. Wednesday Jazz Night starts at 9 and is worth staying for.
Now the food and drinks, I highly suggest the Ceviche Frito and the Mushroom Taco. The Ceviche has a sauce that keeps my mouth watering. Well balanced citrus with the fish keeps me wanting more. And the Happy Hour... come on who else offers Happy Hour until 8 and the drinks were delicious.
Mad props to Jessica the Assistant Manager. She was on point, kept the place fun and offered suggestions when needed. The service overall was fantastic. I will definitely Italy revisit and bring friends.
Made reservations a week in advance at 9:00 for dinner, upon arrival we were told that we could only stay until 9:30 because they sell the tables for bottle service (starting at $600).
I don’t understand how a party of 4 can arrive, order and have dinner all in 30 minutes. We had to leave and find a reservation somewhere else. Not how I was planning on spending my birthday dinner.
Overall good time, just be aware that the servings are not that large depending on how much you are looking to eat.
The bar staff were amazing, they really looked after us and kept popping over to check on us. I wasn’t too keen on the food if I’m completely honest but I will definitely visit again!
Went here before the Madonna concert. It’s about a one block walk which is perfect. Staff, bartenders, and manager are fantastic. Super friendly and catered to our every need.
Beautiful spot. Food was hit or miss. Drinks were great. Took over 20 minutes to get greeted by our original service. In the end some really sweet girl and really nice busser were taking care of us instead wish we had them from the beginning.
I love this place. It's in a funky location, but really has a beautiful interior. The food is consistently good. Alcohol is a bit pricey, but not anymoreso than any other hip joint. The service is impeccable. The only downside is parking in this area is challenging (they do offer valet), the noise level is a bit high (and this was before the live music started), and the bathrooms could really use an upgrade. But I'd go again in a heartbeat, especially if I was going to The Wiltern for a show. Added service points for finding my black scarf, and putting it safely away until I could come and retrieve it!!
First time at Mama Lion — appreciate the later happy hour from 6-8, waitstaff was inviting and attentive, drinks were cool, ordered the chicken sliders (not good), fries were tasty, and wished the band actually performed before we left. I’d go again just to grab drinks.
Mama Lion is not a restaurant to have dinner. It’s a club that also serves food to guests that pay for table service. That was made clear to us by the way staff treated us. Service was slow and inconsistent initially, but as it neared closer to 9/930 we were barely waited on. Our waitress was super sweet. Table service was set up around us without asking if we needed anything. We had to go and ask for our check. The manager was kind enough to take off some of our drinks.

This is not a restaurant it’s a nightclub. Refused to serve us dinner.
I booked a table for two to catch up with an old friend. Both of us were coming from separate parts of LA so it was a bit of a drive. We arrived at Mama Lion to find out they were closed for a private party, but they accepted our reservation and didn't call/email/text anything to let us know they were closed that night. Really disappointed in the service.

It was okay, nothing to jump about. The service was so-so. The appetizers were tasty. I wouldn’t say I have to go back or go out of my way to go back. It was just okay.
They don’t have enough tables in a large space; on Tuesdays they have great jazz but they ran out of food by 11 pm. Literally ran out of food.
The food was amazing, the environment even more amazing. I would suggest it for a special date.
A server was great. Bartender rude and seemed depressed. Food was yummy. The ambiance was beautiful.
Came in on a Sunday night to find a small crowd with a loud band and limited food selection. Drinks are fun but disappointed really no food selection.
There’s something off about the place...it feels empty instead of cozy...almost like you’re on a set and the restaurant isn’t real.
They did a good job with decorating but it’s not really a restaurant. There are more vip tables for clubbing than dining tables.
The menu is very affordable but not very interesting. It seemed more like bar food but was surprisingly good. Not the best just good.
Plus the service was slow with our food too. She seemed to get our drinks fast but not the food...which again their main business is in the club scene so maybe that’s what they should focus on instead.
We arrived arrived around 9pm and finished around 10:30. The only thing I didn’t appreciate is that they rush you out if you’re dining.
We were closing out our tab and the door guy came over and asked rudely for us to hurry up and leave the table because it turns into a night club.
That’s the other thing, as you’re eating and trying to talk to your date or friends, the place is quickly filling up with people who are coming to the club and it gets harder to talk and the music gets louder and lights start to dim.
One point the lights got so dim, I couldn’t even see my food.
It’s definitely more of a club than a restaurant. Maybe if I were rating it as a club it might be higher but as a restaurant it’s not worth it.
I’ve been to super clubs before where they transition from dinner to club and it’s done a lot more smooth and better than that without rushing you.
Fun venue. Great decor. Good drinks and apps.
Not sure why everything seemed to be priced about 20% higher than "market". Service was good, however we all felt that overall, the experience was not worth what we paid.
Went for the drinks (which were awesome), but the food was outstanding, recommend the vegetable succotash and the crispy chicken schnitzel, fun atmosphere, the drinks could have come out a little quicker.
I found this restaurant on EaterLA's heatmap and was excited to try it. It's basically just one large room with a bar in the middle and some tables/booths around the bar. When I arrived at 8:30pm, the place was about 2/3 empty. We ordered about 10 dishes for a party of 4. The food was mediocre at best. The service was really slow (even though the place was empty). They turn up the music real loud and the lights real low at about 10pm, which made conversation a bit difficult. Overall, I think Mama Lion is overpriced and not that great. Unless things change, this place won't stay open long.
Found this restaurant on Eater's Hot 18 restaurants right now in LA. My boyfriend, my parents and I walked in at 7:00 for dinner last night, Sunday, and the place was empty! And it never got busy. We didn't mind because we could hear each other talk. The restaurant is stunning! Love the decor. The food was delicious too. We asked our server for her highlights and everything she told us was great. The smothered tator tots were a favorite. We also got the grilled shrimp, tomato burrata toast, the hamachi tartare, and the truffle hummus. All delicious. Our server was attentive, but not too attentive. And she let us take our time in between courses to order more. A delightful night all around and would definitely recommend!!
This is the worst meal I've had in a long time. There was no one else in there, but with the exception of a good cocktail from the bar, the food was greasy, depressing and overpriced. Shared plates that are difficult to share, food that seems like it could have been frozen, potentially good ingredients ruined. The service was a mess, again, no one else (well, another two top at some point) and still couldn't get a refill of water. Save yourself and go to Here's Looking at You, Commissary or Le Comptoir. Get a burger at Cassels, get Korean BBQ...anything. Too many other good options in the neighborhood (much less the city). Wrote an email to the restaurant because it was such an awful night, have never heard back. Someone is obviously trying to make a fast buck here (expect a minimum of $150 for two if you are having a couple drinks. Funny, don't mind spending that at any of the above listed, I guess it's a matter of getting what you pay for?), because they have made it clear they don't care about the food or service. The space is nice (though...a little air conditioning would be helpful, and the cheesy remix club music when no one is in there is off.) hopefully someone else will use it wisely when they go out of business.
Nice place. It was kind of a pain to find the valet parking but that was probably our fault for approaching the place from the wrong direction. Food is better than many other hipster cocktails-and-small-plates places we've been to lately. Get the tater tots, they are delicious.
Someone told me to go Here for dinner. Big mistake. Just go for drinks.

The food was great and the staff was attentive. However, they were out of half of the ingredients for their specialty cocktail menu. Which was crazy since it was Saturday night.

Food was quite disappointing. Very mundane. The wine we ordered was good. Bar looked very good and I would return for cocktails, happy hour and ambiance.

Great new restaurant in a rapidly growing area. Perfect for drinks and small bites at the bar. Has a more lounge-y feel than traditional sit down dining. Service can be a little slow during peak hours.
The food was tasty and there were some creative items, but the portions were tiny. Even the steak entree felt unsatisfying in portion. I understand that you're supposed to order a bunch of plates, but appetizers like the avocado samosa felt comically small (there are four tiny tubes, and about three inches long). Even the sides were very, very small for a place where they put emphasis on sharing. More reasonably portioned for sharing were items like the hummus and the salad.
They're still working out some "new restaurant" kinks, like I saw some exposed wiring/unfinished looking final touches, they didn't have enough coffee mugs for me and wife to both have a French press coffee, nor sweetener. The place was not really crowded, btw, so not having or running out of these sorts of things seemed pretty silly. The salad came after our entree, which wasn't acknowledged by our waitress (other than this glaring omission, she did a good job). Maybe I was supposed to accept this as part of the "small plate, order as you go" style of dining. Yeah, but I didn't. We ordered it with the rest of the food and expected the meal to be paced traditionally.
I didn't try their handmade cocktails, but I was underwhelmed by gin martini, which was not nearly as cold as it should be. Also, every restaurant that advertises handmade cocktails should carry bleu cheese stuffed olives. Just my personal opinion.
Overall, this place is style over substance.
Dinner at Mama Lion was great! Really enjoyed the service and food. Great scotch selection. Would definitely recommend the place for dinner and/or drinks.
