Pronounced ‘mum’ and referring to the art of fermentation, the menu focuses on skewered meat cooked on a robata grill. The skewers predominantly feature cuts of chicken, but the kitchen also showcases weekly specials such as rare-breed beef and seafood. Served sharing style with rice noodle parcels, chopped veg, colourful pickles, an abundance of fresh Vietnamese herbs, lettuce leaves and rice paper wrappers, diners are encouraged to choose their own way of eating them.
The light, airy 40-cover restaurant, divided between a bar area at the front and dining room conservatory at the back, also offers a refined cocktail menu.
Overall nice place, had a reservation but needed to wait 20min to get seated. At the time when got to ordering broth was finished so could order any Pho.
The woman behind the bar selfishly runs the restaurant with heaps of negative attitude and little care for any of her dinners or service team. The food is great, but service is a real let down, stay miles clear of the counter seats, and count on spotty service.
The food was decent but we had to wait 45 minutes to be seated and then wait another 30 minutes to eat. And for all that inconvenience we were offered a bottle of sparkling water!!!
I visited MAM on a Friday night with some friends. I was really impressed with the ambience and interior of the restaurant, really relaxed but still cool and welcoming. The service was also very good. However I was not impressed with the food. The fried chicken had a strange taste The fried chicken had a strange taste and the dumplings were very oily. Also I did not enjoy the pancake. This is a shame because it is a great place to hang out in and the drinks are good too.
The best Vietnamese I had in a while and would recommend this little gem to others for sure
Decent food and cocktails...
One of the waiter's (Asian Guy) wasn't too friendly or responsive - Always felt like we were bothering him.
Think it was a race thing in all honesty because we are black - He seemed much more polite to everyone else.
Other staff were great.
We felt that the food was not as tasty as expected from past visits. It all seemed half hearted. I had the Pho and my friend had the skewers - neither of which tasted particularly seasoned. The spicy dumplings that we shared to start were the best things out of the meal and even those weren't very warm. The service was TERRIBLE! Anytime we wanted anything at all, we had to go up to the counter to ask. The servers only came into our part of the restaurant when they were clearing away after guests who had left. Ours was not the only table who had to request service. Overall I was disappointed. I feel I could have spent £25 somewhere else and enjoyed a much more delicious and service conscious meal.
When I first visited I couldn’t sing it’s praises enough... now...I wouldn’t bother. The staff bear in mind there were 4 other customers in, were less than attentive.
There signature dish in which you wrap your skewers lettuce leaves came with 4 lettuce leaves for 3 people... the order was missing an extra skewer.
The rose was delicious though. The floor was greasy as were the stairs.
Such a shame.
The food is really delicious, particularly the Vietnamese barbecue and the chicken pancake starter. Service isn't the fastest, but the people were lovely and it's a lovely space to sit and chat. A great experience.
Great place for couples or groups and the food is really tasty and good value!
Yummy food and super nice people. We will be back! francesx
Nice food - toilets filthy throughout our evening. Really not acceptable in this day and age!
The service is a little slow and one of my starters never made it to the table, but the food is outstanding and worth the wait.
Amazing food, great atmosphere
Food was really good. Everything else was terrible. Took an hour for our starters to arrive, then another 40 minutes for our main course. It was truly amateur hour at MAM, the staff seemed erratic as be clueless.
Food was good but no variety of garnish. All plates had the same. Pancakes were good but did not understand the skewers. Quite expensive for what you got. Noodle soup a bit tasteless. Liked the atmosphere and service but the volume of the music much too high + wrong kind of music I think. Asian of some kind would have been more suitable. Could hardly hear what the waiter said because of the noice.
Love the service, the food, the cocktails and atmosphere.
Poor food and poor service . Shortage of food and drinks .
the food is fantastic especially the short rib just a lovely place to go and eat.
Really nice and helpful staff. Odd to have a huge dog in this small restaurant at a busy dinner time meal.
Really nice local restaurant with service from people who seem to care about their work and the place. Short and quite simple menu but all done well. There should have been a few photos but it all looked so good we had started eating before we thought about pictures!
Having had the most marvellous Pho in Vietnam and in Berlin, this was bland and disappointing by comparison, but the chicken spring rolls were excellent. I might return to try some of the other dishes but sadly, would not have Pho here again, which is a shame as it was one of my very favourite dishes
Not your typical Vietnamese restaurant. A beautiful blend of classic and fusion menu items. There was not loads to choose from, but the menu has just the right amount of items to make a superb evening. Recommend a try.
Copious amounts of delicious, authentic Vietnamese food! The staff were friendly, the food was plenty, and we were all merry. Thank you! Can't wait to return.
Very good food. What can I say, value for taste and great service. I couldn’t reduce the stars / rating anywhere. I tried, critically
The food was delicious and exactly what I was looking for - fresh and tasty. The staff were a little quiet and not overly friendly, but they definitely were not rude in any way. I would thoroughly recommend and will be going back myself :-)
Except for the waiter forgetting our drinks order, (which can happen everywhere), and the sticky floors (please, change the water of your bucket more often !!) the food was excellent. Very fresh, very tasty. Excellent dumplings, which sauce was to die for.
All was good other than the bill was wrong with a dish added that never came, so that was annoying but it was a nice evening. Quite pricey for a local eatery with simple dishes but we had a good evening overall.
Great food, good atmosphere and very good value for money. Nice place to lounge and have a chat with friends. The spot near the window is amazing.
Tried MAM for the first time this weekend.. we booked a table and were seated just a bit early when we arrived. The skewer platter was delicious, spicy dumplings and the rice bowl also fantastic. We also had rare beef pho... it was really good quality, generous meat portion and nice flavor though it needed more salt. Also, no mint or basil served with it... next time, will ask for herbs and chili’s and think it will be better. Overall, nice service, good modern vibe, excellent food—the spicy pepper margarita was fantastic! Love that this is in our neighborhood—we’ll be eating here often.
Superb, fresh, zingy Vietnamese in the heart of Notting Hill. As someone who has travelled to Vietnam on a regular basis, it brought me right back there. We'll be back!
Great atmosphere with a table at the front with Open windows . Whilst the food was overall was very good, one or two of the dishes could have been better. Overall a great experince.
Really nice restaurant for lunch, food is good and a reasonable price too. Service was friendly - my only point is that I was told I couldn't have a cocktail because there was no bartender, but could see from my seat a guy behind the bar making a cocktail about 5 mins later...
Amazing chicken wings, salmon, beef short rib and dumplings. Would highly recommend. Didn’t enjoy the sesame crackers but overall excellent :-)
Superb and cheap food .
The kitchen turn down making an ekstra springrolle and the bar closed 21.
The most delicious Vietnamese food I've eaten outside Vietnam!
A wonderful little place that serves up tasty Vietnamese bbq which was an absolute treat and lovely addition to the Notting Hill foody scene
Beef skewers tough.
Ordered sparkling water at dinner 7pm - took some time before they came back to say they ran out
Fried chicken v good
Really can’t recommend it enough. Such a nice space and the food is amazing.
The food was tasty and portions were generous. Cocktails were great too. Only complaint we have was with the Banh Hoi platter. The “steamed rice vermicelli sheets” are literally sheets of noodles that you’re somehow supposed to use to create a wrap with the other ingredients. They failed miserably, as we expected. It would be far better to use an actual wrap for that dish (something like the rice paper sheets used for summer rolls perhaps).
