What Insiders Are Saying
Malai Marke is one of our favorite Indian restaurants in the East Village. There’s a lot of meat on the menu, but vegetarians can eat very well here.
Food quality has decreased tremendously. W ordered the fried cauliflower for appetizer and it was bad - no salt, no taste. The fried okra was good and so was the garlic naan.
When we first came here, we feel in love with the paneer. We ordered it now, and it was cubes of paneer in what tasted like tomato sauce.
Very busy, this compact restaurant is so noisy, conversation is difficult. The menu is broad, including the rare Persian Dhanzak sauce. Service is fast, and you won’t leave hungry. Great for lovers of Indian food, possibly best when not full of people; don’t expect intimate romance!
I have been here several times before it was dark meat which I do not care for. I should have stuck to my normal dish that I get which was always good. Next time I will.
Delicious! The lunch special is always a bargain.
Love this place! Lovely people and amazing food. Will definitely go back!
The food was absolutely phenomenal. I just love this place. I got chicken Tandori which was really terrific and they gave a generous amount (five pieces). The garlic Nan was about the best I’ve ever had anywhere. I also got smoked mashed eggplant which was fabulous and a glass of Shiraz which was very generously poured. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Great food, good service! It was the best Christmas Eve dinner if you want a non-traditional option meal.
Food was delicious! Service was great!
Don't believe the hype. This place is not special. It's not even that good. All of the dishes, meat and veg alike, inherently tasted the same...salty. Perhaps a bunch of msg? Don't exactly know. Everything served was cold on top and hot in the middle. Can you say microwave? Don't waste your time. Particularly on 6th st, where there is an over-abundace of Indian places. If you've already got a go-to joint, don't change it. You'll be happier that way. Lovely place, though. Everyone was nice and convivial.
The service was tardy. The food was on the sweeter side. The samosa looked and tasted double fried. Over all very mediocre experience.
Authentic Indian food 😋
Tourists in New York city we found this restaurant and it was really good !
Very good food and fast service.
Food was fantastic. I can’t wait to return the next time I am in NY!
I came back to this restaurant because I really enjoyed it on my first visit but service was horrible. We waited a long time for any attention. I am of Indian descent and typically the Tandoor items should come out before your curries. After a period of waiting, our curry and rice came out and no naan, followed by the Tandoor items which we were looking forward to for apps.
Then we asked for the check about 4 times before it came. I was not really happy with how long the entire process took and the food was not as well made as the first time.
Only 1 server for entire restaurant. Very slow service. Food was only ok. Way too many potatoes in the Saag - almost no spinach. The staff tried - but understaffed.
While the food was fine, the restaurant was soooo noisy it was impossible to enjoy our dinner!
Good food, good service, slightly pricey.
Absolutely mouth wateringly delicious! Consistently.
Food was very good but atmosphere needs improvement. It was a hot evening and they barely had A/C running which made the dining experience less enjoyable bc I was sweating through the entire meal.
Malai Marke is one of the best Indian in the city... If not the best! Great for groups.
Superb! Definitely a contender for our go-to Indian. Will go back again very soon!
It had been a couple of years since I was here, but it has remained consistent with excellent food. Introduced friends who were enthusiastic. Authentic taste for someone familiar with both India and Indian restaurants, but not excessively "hot"
We went on a double date to Malai Marke. We got the Malai Kofta and the Malai Marke Paneer dish with naan and it was amazing! I could have the Malai Marke dish over and over again. It was a bit on a pricier side, but that’s also New York for you!
Waited 1/2 hour after our reservation time for a table which never materialized. Staff was neither polite nor honest about the issue - 3 times we were told they were going to check on the table. Finally gave up and went elsewhere.
The food was prepared to order and was well worth the wait. We didn't always recognize some of the ingredients, but the waiter was able to share the name of those we didn't know. We savored the wonderfully seasoned dishes: tandoori eggplant with coconut rice and buryani shrimp with rice. While I love to try new entrees, I could return and order the same meal again!
Great Indian food!!
The food was ok at best. We ordered appetizers paneer tikka and kurkuri bhindi. Paneer tikka was good, but the bhindi was very oily and there were more onions than the actual bhindi, which was indeed deep fried. We got simple entrees gobi matar and daal tadka. We specifically asked for less/no oil in gobi matar, but it did have a lot of oil in it. The food wasn't super flavorful. The rotis seemed fresh, and the waiters seemed decent. I'm not sure how their meat dishes are, as we only ordered vegetarian. For the above mentioned items, we shelled $80 (including 15% tip), which I thought was expensive for that restaurant and that food.
So authentic and great, caring service. A complete treasure in the East Village.
Outstanding service every time. Love this place for casual Indian.
A great experience --- the exceptional service, value and delicious dishes(chicken chutneywala, chicken tiki, chicken tandoori noodles) were beyond addictive. Will dine again!
I was in a party of 11 and Malai Marke was very accommodating! Great food and wine, quick and nice service. Delicious.
Great food and service and reasonably priced, tables are a bit small and restaurant is small, very cozy, a little noisy. Will go again.
Great food, great service. But especially great food.
Food here is excellent. Service was attentive but unintrusive. Good pricing. Will definitely visit regularly.
We had a delightful meal with wonderful service. The lamb and brussel sprouts were delicious!!
The food here is delicious. I especially recommend the lamb dishes, which were amazing!
As someone who grew up on Indian food, I am very finicky about Indian restaurants. Malai Marke offers a very nice menu that is prepared superbly. Their use of spices offers wonderful flavors without burning your tongue numb.
The fixed price lunch offers a broad selection of main courses and is served with generous portions of side dishes, rice and naan.
I absolutely love the the Rogan Josh, a North Indian lamb dish with a sauce to die for.
