We compare all other Indian restaurants to Malai Marke. 'Nuff said.
Most likely due to the pandemic, some things felt and were different. Service was slightly subpar even though we were the only diners. Food was good, but not what we remembered. Korma and pasanda were great, but the garlic naan which we typically salivate over didn't meet our expectations. Granted, it was still good, just didn't have that buttery, oily sheen to it. And we like our naan a bit puffy, not too crispy like it was, so to each their own.
But back to 1st line.
[edit a week later] disappointed - paid with card and I’m usually a generous tipper. Guess they felt it wasn’t enough and tacked on more so that the tip came out to almost 33%. Like, really? SMH
Gonna have to shop around for that 1st line now.
Standard 6th street. I was disappointed, some reviews led me to expect better. I won’t go back.
It was great! They accommodated us to our preference on table and the service was good and fast!
the food was delicious with tons of options, I was there on a monday night so it was pretty quiet but nice ambience with lights but pretty cold. also they don't serve cocktails or well drinks, just wine & beer !
Made a reservation however they did not have any tables and lacking in customer service . Recommend order to go
Food and service was very good. A bit pricey but all in all lovely restaurant
We have come here several times and every time tried something new and delicious. Both the okra small plate and the eggplant small plate were excellent. Pleasant atmosphere and helpful service.
Without a doubt, my favorite Indian restaurant. Wherever else we order garlic naan from, we groan and our eyes portray the disappointment our stomachs and mouths feel when compared to Malai Marke’s. We always order 2 and then order a 3rd somewhere along the way. Curse you tastebuds!!!!
EXPENSIVE for what you get, It was good, not great. Will I go back? probably not
Food was great. Service was helpful in picking food and atmosphere was fun!
Minimal ambience but great food! Best for takeout!
The food was great, especially the lamb dishes. Two entrees fir three people would have sufficed, but the leftovers were bagged for a healthy snack next day. One minor complaint relates to a feeling that we were rushed. Next time I’ll insist that entrees are not served until all appetizers are finished
The service walking in wasn’t pleasant. The guy made us wait for 15-20 mins even though there were tables empty and we had made a reservation! The Gobi Kurkure was good and it was good to note that the green chutney actually had flavor and spice instead of being bland. The excitement was short lived though because the main course arrived and except for the bhindi both the paneer malai marke and dal makhani were flavorless and almost sweet! I understand not putting too much chilli powder or green chilies but to not have Any flavor is beyond me. What is the point of enjoying Indian food then? The garlic naan was good but the chilli onion naan had only onion and no chilli. The raita was good too. Overall better than a lot of Indian restaurants there but definitely need improvement regarding service and flavor.
Very good and common place. Nothing exceptional. We got there at 6:30 and it wasn't busy - the waiter was very nice. It got really busy at 7:30 and not very loud, just alot of people wtg to get in. I would go back and def recommend. Good for brithdays etc...
The food was good, as always, and service mostly good.
It’s very hot in the restaurant. There were fans and air conditioners, but it was still very hot.
The food was OK to good, but the lipstick and other suspect smudges on the lips of several water glasses took the edge off my appetite. Flavors were dull and murky. Naan was good, but I like naan thin and crispy. The mango chutney was almost entirely syrup. Overall, it fell right in the middle range of my experience at Indian restaurants. My teenage relatives from Pennsylvania really liked it, but they'd *never* had Indian food before. Water service was impeccable.
Very disappointing!!! Would never go again....mmanamnm
The food was delicious and service was great. Thank you!
Great food and great service. All I can ask for. Thanks Malai Marke
Rice was cold, poori bread was not warm, or hot. Also kind of cardboard-like. To me, poori should issue steam when you poke a hole in it, and be either crisp or soft. The meat and vegetable dishes were excellent.
This was my first time at Malai Marke, and I absolutely loved it! The food was excellent and the waiters were polite. I will definitely be coming back!
Food quality has decreased tremendously. W ordered the fried cauliflower for appetizer and it was bad - no salt, no taste. The fried okra was good and so was the garlic naan.
When we first came here, we feel in love with the paneer. We ordered it now, and it was cubes of paneer in what tasted like tomato sauce.
Very busy, this compact restaurant is so noisy, conversation is difficult. The menu is broad, including the rare Persian Dhanzak sauce. Service is fast, and you won’t leave hungry. Great for lovers of Indian food, possibly best when not full of people; don’t expect intimate romance!
I have been here several times before it was dark meat which I do not care for. I should have stuck to my normal dish that I get which was always good. Next time I will.
Delicious! The lunch special is always a bargain.
Love this place! Lovely people and amazing food. Will definitely go back!
The food was absolutely phenomenal. I just love this place. I got chicken Tandori which was really terrific and they gave a generous amount (five pieces). The garlic Nan was about the best I’ve ever had anywhere. I also got smoked mashed eggplant which was fabulous and a glass of Shiraz which was very generously poured. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Great food, good service! It was the best Christmas Eve dinner if you want a non-traditional option meal.
Food was delicious! Service was great!
Don't believe the hype. This place is not special. It's not even that good. All of the dishes, meat and veg alike, inherently tasted the same...salty. Perhaps a bunch of msg? Don't exactly know. Everything served was cold on top and hot in the middle. Can you say microwave? Don't waste your time. Particularly on 6th st, where there is an over-abundace of Indian places. If you've already got a go-to joint, don't change it. You'll be happier that way. Lovely place, though. Everyone was nice and convivial.
The service was tardy. The food was on the sweeter side. The samosa looked and tasted double fried. Over all very mediocre experience.
Authentic Indian food 😋
Tourists in New York city we found this restaurant and it was really good !
Very good food and fast service.
Food was fantastic. I can’t wait to return the next time I am in NY!
I came back to this restaurant because I really enjoyed it on my first visit but service was horrible. We waited a long time for any attention. I am of Indian descent and typically the Tandoor items should come out before your curries. After a period of waiting, our curry and rice came out and no naan, followed by the Tandoor items which we were looking forward to for apps.
Then we asked for the check about 4 times before it came. I was not really happy with how long the entire process took and the food was not as well made as the first time.
Only 1 server for entire restaurant. Very slow service. Food was only ok. Way too many potatoes in the Saag - almost no spinach. The staff tried - but understaffed.
While the food was fine, the restaurant was soooo noisy it was impossible to enjoy our dinner!
