Great food and atmosphere! Would return!
One of my favorite go-to's in Charlotte. Always on and always great!!
The octopus is the best. Oh and the trees leeches cake. The service is impeccable.
sangria tasty and coconut flan delicious. Frittata was light and fluffy.
My best friend and I choose a different restaurant every Tuesday and my Open Table suggested this place. We had the Dates and Scallops for appetizers, they were delicious! We also had the Cheese and Meats Board and Spinach Salad with Shrimp. With Tiramisu for dessert we were completely satisfied, and will return asap.
Had to wait 45 minutes past reservation time. Food & drink very good.
By far my favorite restaurant in all of Charlotte! Still dreaming about those corquettas ! My only wish id that the space was bigger.
First time experience was awesome!!
The Paella Royal and the Octopus were great. We are definitely going back!!
My wife and I were looking for a restaurant that would bring back our fond memories of Barcelona and the ambience, wonderful cuisine and professional presentation at Malabar was a bull’s eye hit. We were thrilled with our experience
Waiters and staff were good. The food was just mediocre for the price. It was truly disappointing and we decided a return trip wouldn’t be worth it.
I lived in Spain for several years. Dishes are authentic. Decent tapas portions. Nice ambiance. Easy to get reservations on Saturday night. Nice staff. Highly recommend.
The food was not great - the cod fritters were oily and flavorless, the churros - shapeless and soggy. The salad was nice and the lamb skewers were Ok. Overall, generic and flavorless, quite sad as Spanish cuisine is so abundant with tastes and flavors. Won’t go back although the space is nicely decorated and service was decent.
For restaurant night the working crew needed much more professionalism.
Good food, good variety. Wine list is thin, however.
Well, these guys win the Thanks For Nothing award from the Solo Lady Diners of America. I came in a little early for my reservation, they couldn't seat me, no harm, walked around in the cold for 15 minutes and came back and they still couldn't seat me. And then I stood there for half an hour in their doorway (they have no waiting space), long enough for a couple to walk in from the street, make an on the spot reservation, go away, and come back. And then the hostess went to seat the couple, and I was like "excuse me I've been waiting for my reservation for half an hour" and she was like "I've got to seat these four-tops first" and so I peaced out. The four-top was mad on my behalf and wanted to give me their table but I was too irritated at the restaurant to give them $35.
Only one server spoke English. Portions were extremely small for the price. Loud and cold inside.
Salt cod cakes were delicious as was the short ribs.
Lamb skewers were quite average.
Potato/fries served as a side was a very small portion , I got like 5 with my lamb skewers.
Would have liked to have a larger selection available on the restaurant week menu
Relaxed yet elegant atmosphere with attentive service. Varied delicious tapas for every palate. This is one of my go to spots for a night out in uptown Charlotte.
Food & service was excellent. We arrived too early to get the paiella - which was disappointing - however the tapas portions are good size and the quality of the food was great. Will have to go back after 8pm to try the paiella
Malabar is very small and the place was crowded and loud. The 2 tables on each side of us were so close, we could hear each other's conversations. They brought my husband's main dish 15 minutes before mine so he ate his dish cold waiting for me. The plates are small for the price.
The ham croquetas and the sangria were amazing!!
This restaurant is in a very small space so you have to squeeze past and actually touch other diners to get out of the restaurant. Our server was very aloof and not at all interested in interacting with diners or being helpful.
Food was okay, but unremarkable and not very authentic. Crema Catalan was grainy and had way too much sugar on top, especially since it was only about a half inch deep.
Great dining before a show.
Had a great pre-show dinner at Malabar! Would recommend for those going to the theater which is a short walk from the restaurant.
Maria was xclnt. The tapas style plates allows tasting, sharing and value.
Good experience as usual.
We really liked the seafood dishes (Fish Stew and the Scallops special) also the potato appetizer with aioli, and croquettes! We basically liked everything. Nice service, fun atmosphere. I would definitely return.
If you like authentic tapas you will like this place. It is a small space, but warm and inviting. All of the food we had was delicious. The portion sizes were somewhat small for the price - even by tapas standards. It would not stop us from coming back. We would recommend it if you are a tapas fan or a foodie.
Love Malabar! Every person takes pride in what they do to make our dinner experience flawless. The cuisine is consistently exceptional . Always a pleasure dining at Malabar.
Loved it ! Very cozy and chill !
Food was great ! The only thing is that all the plates
Came at once !
Delicious food, great service, cozy atmosphere, and very moderately priced. I live in Chicago and have tried every Spanish tapas bar in the city and none compare to Malabar in uptown Charlotte.
We arrived on schedule and were seated promptly. From there the service went down quickly after waiting an inordinate amount of time drinks were order. My guest ordered a glass of Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay was serviced after a second try the bartender finally arrived a told us that they do not serve Pinot Grigio.
Then after another inordinate amount of time we ordered our food. Some of the food was ok but some was greasy and marginal.
All in all the service was lacking and the food was marginal. I would not recommend.
This was the third time that my Husband and I have dined at Malabar - and it is becoming one of our absolute favorite restaurants in Charlotte. The food is consistently absolutely delicious, the atmosphere is cozy and romantic, and the service is top notch. We have celebrated an anniversary and a birthday at Malabar, and both times were treated like royalty. Even on the occasion that we went just to enjoy, the service from the team there is amazing. We will continue to go back to Malabar many more times in the future. A must visit if you’re in Charlotte!
Top notch service and food
Great experience and service. They were a lot busier this time and seemed to be juggling a lot but they handled it well. Thank you and we will be back!
I love Malabar. Food is fresh and flavorful, the staff is friendly and very responsive. I have been several times and always live it.
First time visit, food was amazing.
Don’t let the under $30 fool you, this is Tapas style and not a good value. Food was tasty but this will be $50 a person to feel like a meal vs. appetizers.
Dinner and drinks were on point! Love this place!!
Wonderful unique place where one feels valued in downtown Charlotte
