Great food and friendly service. It has a great selection of beer, wines, and cocktails. The food was all amazing. My group had the paella, brusetta, flank steak with potatoes, and garlic shrimp and everything was incredible.
Our visit was excellent. Friendly staff. Great service. Delicious food. Will definitely go again on our next visit to Charlotte!
My colleague from London and I had a variety of tappas at Malabar...everything was delicious and perfectly prepared! I have been telling everyone about it!
I ALWAYS enjoy Malabar! For a nice dinner in a great uptown spot to a drink or two with some tapas before an event, it is always very good food and great service. I certainly enjoy that the food choices don't require you incessantly "gluten up". Plenty of healthy but very tasty choices.
The Tapas are amazing! The food turnaround was VERY quick too, which we appreciated. Cocktails are average. If you are crazing delicious Spanish tapas, this restaurant does not disappoint!
We went on a Friday night. There were three large groups of people. We were just three people and we couldn’t hear ourselves speaking. If we sat outside it might have been a different experience. The food is good. Sangria was nice! We love Spain and were looking for a touch of it in Charlotte.
Tapas were great. Had a big party and it was very comfortable
What reservation???? Open table cancelled my reservation for no reason.
Great place to grab lunch uptown. Fast and tasty! The lunch specials were inexpensive and very good. Looking forward to stopping back here!
The menu was full of tasty tapas that were arranged by meat/veggie base. I thought all the options were traditional Spanish tastes that had a creative, modern twist. Of note were the Croquetas, the Burata Caprese, and a Salmon toast. My absolute favorite that I would come back for again and again was the Pimientos Rellenos. The flavor packed into the rice, spinach, and manchego, all wrapped in a soft, flavorful red pepper was to die for. To top it off, all of the tapas paired well with the Tempranillo. Great atmosphere, great service, and fantastic food.
Great food, but very crowded. Our table was close to the door. Even though the food was great, we had to wonder whether it was worth having people almost right on top of us as they were waiting for a table, while we ate.
I was there with a date and waiting for the Flamenco show to start. I frequently reserve a table for dinner before a show, but will reconsider whether Malabar is the right stop before a show.
Second visit to Malabar. Great service and I love the paella.
Terrible service and food. Had a reservation and waited for 45 minute to be seated
Crowdy, noisy, service ok, place is not for dinner.
After "discovering" Malabar and enjoying a fabulous lunch, the next week we reserved a table for 8 for my birthday and pre-show dinner. The place was buzzing on a Wednesday night as it was the pre-show spot for the Tablau Flamenco performance at Booth Playhouse ... so it was especially festive. The food and service and ambiance are all excellent. A very happy spot.
Our second visit to Malabar was just as enjoyable as our first. The food continues to look and taste delicious. The service and ambiance are excellent. The seafood paella is as good as any we have eaten in Spain.
I have been to Malabar a few times before. I was very disappointed due to very small portions for the price. The special lamb rack (only 3 small ribs) were fairly good. Otherwise fair to mediocre. Service was not good at all - we felt rushed out of the restaurant.
Busy night. Seated 30 mins after reservation time.
Having lived in Spain for 7 years I was very disappointed with the food. The paella was lackluster without a lot of taste. The rice was very wet and the calamari poorly cooked and tough.
The Gambas aljillo tasteless. The bread was dry and served with olive oil instead of traditional butter served in Spain.
Worse than all, the sangria. My sangria recipe is better than theirs. I was extremely disappointed.
If you want really good Spanish food in the US travel to Baltimore and to Tio Pepe’s. You can smell the food a block away. The sangria is to die for and they make you feel at home.
It was really good new experience it was my first time in a tapas and paella food my family and I enjoyed the only thing was that since was our first visit I wish the would have explained the menu and the tapas concept better
I love Malabar's paella options and fine Spanish wines, but Malabar has also become a favorite for dinners with my young granddaughter. The small plate tapas options let's us share a special dinner before the theater. She gets to enjoy a "Shirley Temple" while Grandpa sips a glass of wine. The breadth of gluten free options is very important for us. She is always treated as a valued customer, not just a child. She especially loves the egg, potato, and onion Tortilla Española with a plate of olives . Combined with the chicken and vegetable kabobs and a shared quinoa salad, this is a perfect dinner for two. The prices are very reasonable and the service is very friendly.
Calamari was off, like it was from an old frozen bag. Otherwise, food was great.
Normally a great choice for downtown dining!
Not up to par. We ate at Malabar once before and were impressed, but this past weekend the food was not very good. In particular, the octopus was rubbery, the bread was dry and they brought us complementary creme brule for dessert that was cold. We're not likely to return.
Birthday dinner at Malabar tonight. Split the Paella Royal with my husband. It was wonderful! Also had the Pan Con Tomate and a seasonal artichoke tapas. Delicious. Malabar is my favorite restaurant in Charlotte. I've never had a bad meal there.
Always great food and personal service.
Service was hit or miss. Don’t think we actually had an assigned waiter and we had to wait for extended times to order food and drink
Great place with good food and pleasant staff! Location is perfect for visitors and locals alike to enjoy the beautiful uptown.
Wonderful customer service, and the absolute best sangria you will ever have!
The restaurante is pretty small but we had reservation so the seating was quick. The food was delicious! Was had the tapas style and nothing to complaint. We order sangrias and we didn’t get the second round, they added to the bill once we talked to them about it they were sorry and they took the charges off the bill. Mike was the guy bringing the food. He was okay, he would bring the food and he would say anything and he also would throw the plates on the table but you know it was okay, besides that everything was amazing.
The dining and bar space are very small and on a busy Saturday night the restaurant was too crowded for comfort. The waitress was good but was obviously busy and appeared rushed. The food was bland and unimpressive.
Stuck us in a corner after we had been waiting for 20 mins after our reservation. They sat a couple before us that had came in after us. Staff didn't seem to really want to serve us or take the time to explain menu. This was for Valentine's day but still they needed more staff. It was an awful experience.
First of all the Bacon Wrapped dates with bleu cheese were #1. The fish stew with seafood was super fantastic as well as the stuffed peppers. The service was something to be desired but the food definitely made up for it!
The food was delicious and very typical dishes compared to what we ate when we traveled to Barcelona. We will be going back any time we are missing Spain
One of my new favorites in Charlotte! Great food and atmosphere.
This was the perfect place to go for our date. Great food, great ambiance, great service. What more can you ask for?
“We ordered spanish tortilla, patatas bravas, croquettes, gambas al ajillo, meat, bread with tomato and olive dishes- ALL delicious!!”
The food was excellent and great for sharing with friends. The servers were attentive but sensitive in not interrupting our conversation.
The food was very authentic. When we arrived we were greeted by a very rude man scolding us for being 4 minutes late (after we called to say we were in traffic). His attitude was just a big damper on a great experience. The wait staff was fantastic. The food was fantastic. Too bad we were talked down to before our evening even began. Other than the extremely rude man at the door that greets, we would highly recommend this restaurant.
Packed before Bocelli concert. Staff was takes to keep up. One offered dish never arrived.
The food that arrived was very good.
Absolutely fabulous!! Very authentic Spaniard cuisine.
