Malabar Spanish Cuisine
Wonderful unique place where one feels valued in downtown Charlotte
Absolutely delicious food at excellent prices, and the staff are very warm and welcoming. We've been to Malabar twice so far, and we're looking forward to visiting again!
The host/manager was wonderful. The food was either amazing with so much flavor or bland. Not bad at all just a little bland. The wait staff took a long time to come over at first and kept us waiting and there was almost no checking in on you. That is not always a bad thing but when you have small plates it’s nice to have them cleared to have more room. Overall it is a really good restaurant, small intimate and again overall food is really good. Will go again
After 2 hours our entrees never made it to the table. We ended up reviving our order to go after 1/2 our dinner party had to leave to attend a show. The to go dinners were incomplete and delivered very poorly
Always an amazing dining experience
Wonderful team and the food is consistently delicious!
Excellent! Thank you.
This is one of our favorite Charlotte restaurants. Always impressed with the food and service. Excellent tapas!
This was the first time my wife and I had been here and we left wondering why we’d never been before and vowing we’d come back again! Food was great, service was excellent. Really enjoyed the atmosphere.
All food items were excellent and the wine recommendation by our lovely and knowledgeable server was right on target. Overall, we had a great dinner experience and will surely return whenever back in town.
The service was slow, and we received the wrong bill, then realized we didn’t get all the tapas we ordered. It appeared to be one server with several food runners.
The best thing was the meat and cheeses. Nice mix and a lot of both. The calamari, potatoes, and peppers were bland. The tortilla was ok, but over cooked and again, bland. There wasn’t much of any seasoning or salt added to any dish.
The beer was cheap! And the wines looked good....we couldn’t beat $4 bottles, so we stuck to beers mostly.
Delicious Spanish tapas, especially the octopus. We will be back.
Hadn't been to Malabar in a few years and we were all delighted with our pre-concert dinner. Service was very good, our server was very helpful in guiding us through the menu. Seemed very authentic tapas selections. The Gambas were particularly delicious. And the tres leches cake. Definitely recommend.
We've been spoiled by really good tapas in the Chicago area. That said, this was just ok.
Great food, great service, great drinks, love going here for a girls night out
Some of the best food I’ve had in Charlotte. This will become a regular restaurant for us.
Work great for heading to Blumenthal performing arts center for a show after. Service was speeding and professional. Food was very good
Great pre-theatre dinner!
It was good. The food was delicious except for the meatballs.
Just so great. Everything. The food, the location, the patio, the drinks, the service.
Alberto, Johnny and Will, yet another wonderful evening!
Went to Malabar for the first time last night and my husband and I cannot stop talking about how incredible it was. The atmosphere is great and so are the drinks (try the sangria!), but the food absolutely takes the cake. We ordered a bunch of small plates and shared, and everything we tried was delicious. This restaurant is truly one of a kind and I can't wait to come back.
We loved Malabar. Can’t go wrong with Currasco and Parlla! Awesome service. One of our favorite restaurants!
The service here and attention to detail is why I like to sit at the bar and talk to the bartender. They know their wine, and they expand your experience. We only had a few items but each were extremely well executed. The octopus was well done and very tender. I do prefer a little more grill char but that is personal preference. From there we were getting the lamb and the bartender suggested the mushrooms and asparagus as a side. OK, we give it a try. Perfectly medium lamb chops with mushrooms and asparagus, thank you chef. At the end, we tried the Spanish vermouth (red). Very unique, I would do that again.
We tried four different small dishes which were all different and fantastic along with a tasty sangria. And to top it off, very reasonably priced!
We love to go before a show and will definitely be back
My wife and I hadn’t been for 2 years but why did we not come back sooner? Fantastic, wonderful food and experience.
outstanding selection of shareable plates, attentive staff, great wine selection in a perfect space
Thanks to the prompt, courteous service, the warm, welcoming decor, and the delicious, incredibly well-priced food, we will gladly be back to visit Malabar soon, and will definitely recommend them to our friends!
This will be a repeat dining destination for us for sure! The food was prepared wonderfully and ready quite timely. Loved the Chorizo Riojas, and mango shrimp spinach salad. The pitcher of Red Sangria was fantastic.
We were on a car trip around VA and NC. Our stop in Charlotte included dinner at Malabar. We yearned for internation cuisine. Malabar hit the spot! We are foodies . The food was very good, reminiscent of our month is Spain last year, and the service was excellent. Our waiter was beyond perfect! We highly recommend Malabar and thank them for a lovely dinner.
We had a wonderful meal at Malabar!
Everything tasted so fresh & just delicious. Excellent service!
Nice ambience, great food and service. Recommend the grilled octopus and paella!!
Hard back seats are a little uncomfortable my only issue.
I’ve been here twice before. This occasion a date with my girlfriend. The food is always so flavorful and delicious. It’s always a great choice!
Best place in CLT for tapas. Extremely efficient and effective staff. Food is outstanding.
Exceptional experience at Malabar with my son. We both had Queens Feast plus shared 2 items from the Tapas menu; great!
ordered calamari for an app. It appeared and tasted like a pre made commercially prepared food. It was very heavily breaded and just rings. Did not taste as if prepared from scratch. Had paella for 2 and the order in comparison to other Spanish restaurants would be a portion for one person. Service and drinks were excellent. Because of location, would try again and order differently.
Loved it! We enjoyed being outside.
My friend and I were meeting up for dinner and decided on Malabar. Since it was restaurant week, she ordered one of the specials. I ordered ala cart, starting with the tablas mixtas. Traditional Spanish meats and cheeses. I especially love manchego ❤️. The dish paired well with my wine and the delicious table bread. Our waiter was nice, too. We didn’t get any suggestions, so I just started ordering things that sounded good. I ordered a malbec (Chilean) with my first course then ordered some tapas. I will be back to share an order of the sangria pitcher ($20). Note: This is a traditional Spanish restaurant, so the dinner plates are small. I ordered the spinach and 2 croquetas. Although I planned to order at least another tapa, I was so full! Next time I would like to order the paella to share. They had a lot of dishes that I thought would be unusual to Spain, like ceviche and pasteles tres leches, but everything else did remind me of my trip to Barcelona. My friend had churros as a part of her dessert. She shared with me, and I ordered another a glass of wine. By now, the waiter had become very friendly with us and made sure I had a generous pour. Dessert was excellent. Both of us were very satisfied and plan to return FREQUENTLY.
As always a great experience. The tapas came out timely and we enjoyed great food and drinks. Only complaint is we are too much!
