Intimate and casually chic overlooking historic Mala Wharf... MALA is the perfect stop on Front Street to have brunch/lunch with friends or dinner with the whole family. MALA 'TIL MIDNIGHT (Starting 2/1/19) features Late Night Happy Hour with Food & Drinks from 10p-12a.
There are views from every seat indoor & outdoor at MALA & many of our guests request oceanfront or patio seating. We can NOT guarantee patio seating, but we do note the request and will do our best to accommodate every guest. If your heart is set on sitting on the patio, please know that you might have to wait past your reservation time to have your preferred seating. We do first come first serve for all seating.
Food was excellent and our server was very attentive. We always come here when we visit Maui. It is a “must” dining trip!
What a gem! Sitting right on the water with gorgeous views out to Lanai and the channel. Service is impeccable, food selections are expansive using local sourced ingredients and especially tasty fish dishes. Nice selection of wines by the glass or whole bottle and quite reasonable. Prices for mains are a little high ( around $35-$45) but it is all high quality ingredients.
Oh Mala. You made a statement. Your view. Your food. Your service. Applause! We will be back without a doubt.
Amazing food and service
We enjoyed our dinner very much. Food is excellent and the staff was superb and the ambience perfect. Enjoy and have a great time!!
Perhaps the best restaurant on the island. One of our favorites. We make a point of eating here each time we visit Maui
Everything was great as always, but could add the macaroons back
The food , service ,and ambiance were spot on !🐢
Took my girlfriend and her family here. Food was delicious. The ahi bruschetta starter is a must. And if you’re dying for more tuna, I’d recommend the Avalon seared ahi sashimi entree.
Atmosphere was really nice; we sat outside on the rear deck, listened to the waves crashing in as we ate. Our server Mike was great, definitely knew his stuff in regards to recommendation. The whole staff was lovely.
Go here for a meal if you’re ever in town- book in advance!
Ahi bruscheta always amazing and whole wok fried fish. Octopus salad was too rubbery, miss the old version where octopus was tender and amazing.
We had a delicious dinner at Mala. They have valet parking, which is very nice. We had a lovely table overlooking the water. My husband had the whole fish dish which he said was delicious. My Mahi Mahi was good but it is not my most favorite fish anyway. We had a great burrata tomato salad to start. Drinks were good and it is a very friendly place. We had a great time.
We stopped here for a late lunch and ended up staying for hours! The drinks were delicious, the food yummy, (special shout out to the wonderful ponzu oyster shooters!) but the location and vibe are what kept us there for four hours. Right on the beach, great happy hour and fabulous music. An absolutely perfect kick back way to spend an afternoon!
I’ve been there several times. This was not a highlight night. Food was inconsistent at best. For the price you pay, the food should be warm and not sandy or gritty. Needless to say, I will select other restaurants in the future.
We’ve been going to Mala for years this year we were disappointed in the food. Overpriced and just okay.
Probably won’t return
Excellent. Great service from Rachael!!!
Get the whole fish: wok fried with delicious brown rice, snap peas, edamame, mushrooms and onions. A little pricy but soooo good!
While visiting Maui for first time, wanted a really nice restaurant experience before leaving. Mala had been recommended by a tour guide. It was one of our highlights of our trip. Not only do they have really fabulous food, but the whole vibe made you feel welcomed and really comfortable.
Ahi bruschetta is always a fav app. We make it a point to eat at Mala every visit to Maui. Doesn't appear as the new ownership has impacted food quality whatsoever that was a concern.
Went for Happy hour.... Thought menu was a bit limited for HH choices but choices were good ones.
We like the dimmer menu better than lunch.
Tables crammed in and impossible to have a conversation with whoever you came with. Food was outstanding thought.
New owners since one year ago, have kept all the best and favorites from the old menu, plus added several excellent new items.
Always a treat to eat at Mala. Food was great and service was exceptional. Can't beat the view!
Staff were great!
A knowledgeable, accommodating wait staff. Everyone was very pleasant and engaging to make our meal as pleasurable as possible. The gluten free and vegan options were plentiful and delicious! Thank you Mala
Carlos was very personable and efficient. The food and cocktails were delicious! We will be back!
We showed up late but called ahead and they were still able to Accomodate us on a busy night. First table they gave us most people would love as it was truly ocean front...... but the wind and the wave action and is having travelled all day we asked to be moved. They were able and willing to move us to another table. This sounds like a small thing but for an establishment as busy as this one we were really impressed they were able to accommodate us.
Food was great as usual and we personally love the energy of the place.... loud enough to be fun but still able to have a good conversation.
Thank you to the Mala Staff!!
Great food and very friendly service.
Amazing food. Some of the best we’ve had while here for 12 days.
The food is good but expensive. Lots of attitude from the staff. They definitely make you feel like you are lucky to be eating there. If you are looking for attitude from your waiter, go to Mala. Not a value meal whatsoever.
Always wonderful food and service!
Service was slower than usual. Food of course excellent. Love new Portico. One of my favorite restaurants if not my favorite. They recognize us which is wonderful. Even know our favorite meals.
This was our first experience at Mala. The service is outstanding. From the warm welcome given by Ashley at the front, to Ruis, and Aaron our servers we were thoroughly looked after The friendliness of all was lovely.
The Ahi Bruschetta- our favorite dish while in Maui - was fabulous as usual. The fish sandwich was terrific, as was all the fish. So fresh and flavorful.
We were fortunate to get a table at the window, too. Wow!
All in all, a wonderful dinner. We will be back
MALA is a great restaurant with a pretty solid line up of food. We started our meal with the Mahi-Mahi Ceviche that was served with fresh tortilla chips. It was fine, but not overwhelmingly delicious. We shared a large Cesar Salad which was well dressed and all components were tasty. The main course consisted of the Asian Seafood Pasta and the Seared Ahi. The pasta was a generous portion and very good. The Ahi was also a good portion and delicious. For dinks we had the MALA G & T, a glass of champagne, a beer. The MALA G & T was fine.
The staff was great, helpful, and overall 10/10. Our problem was with other customers heading out to the already overcrowded outdoor seating area to take pictures. I get it, but they could have stepped outside and walked around the corner to snap a quick picture.
Always a wonderful dining experience! A best kept secret....
Second visit equally as impressed the second time!
We had a great table overlooking the ocean. Beautiful and romantic.
Always amazing. Our favourite on Maui!
We have stopped at this venue several times for happy hour and decided to try the brunch. It was good, not great. French toast was... well, french toast. I had the special omelette of the day. It was very good. Drinks are good but overpriced, but then, it's Maui. The main thing, and they warn you, this place is intimate. You feel like the people at the table next to you are seated with your party! When the boy next to our table got up to go to the men's room, he bumped our table so hard he nearly spilled all the drinks... and I can't really fault him because the tables are SO close together. Our table was beside a server supply station and it was nerve-wrecking with the constant hustle and bustle of traffic. The view is good, you are only feet from the ocean. The trade off is you are crammed like a sardine in a very small space. Go at a low traffic time, which is rare.
