In case you haven’t heard, Makoto has moved to an awesome new space on the 3rd floor. Re-envisioned by Paris-based designer India Mahdavi, it’s a bold new look which will take your dining experience to a whole new level. Bright colors and cozy banquettes. More outdoor dining. More seats at the sushi counter. And of course, the food and drink will be as fabulous as ever.

Makoto Okuwa ushers Japanese cuisine into the 21st century at his eponymous eatery, located on the 3rd floor of the luxurious Bal Harbour Shops. One of Miami’s most accomplished chefs, Okuwa, a master of Edomae-style sushi, reshapes tradition for a savvy audience eager for something new. Those looking for the perfect spot for a romantic date, a lunch with friends or to celebrate a special occasion, will delight in this remarkable cuisine immersed in a stunning setting created by internationally renowned designer, India Mahdavi.

    The service was terribly slow. 20 minutes plus to come & take order 15 minutes to get cocktail after placing waiter order. Then food flew out of kitchen with no rhyme or reason. Food very good. Finding waiter impossible. It was not. One of their better nights!

    My husband and I we come here pretty often and the food is always very good, but last night was different because of our amazing waitress “Nutchy”. She’s extremely sweet and does her job amazingly, so thank you at Nutchy for last nigh we hope to be hosted by you soon again.

    Makoto never disappoints. The Miso Sea bass was cooked to perfection. We also had the tuna crispy rice and the hamachi sticky rice rolls as appetizers. Heavenly is the word we’ll use to describe our meal and the service staff was top notch. We will come back again soon.

    We’ve dined at Makoto several times and recently brought friends for their first visit. They truly enjoyed the delicious food—especially the crispy tuna, brussels sprouts, and the wide variety of sushi rolls.

    Absolutely loved it. The food came really fast. The fish was super fresh, the meat so flavourful and the crab so sweet. Even the corn was amazing. The waiter also 10/10, he was carefully taking care of everything step of our meal. Not to mention the beautiful decor. I will definitely be back!
