Makisu Sushi Lounge and Grill Ratings and Reviews
This is as comfortable a restaurant that there is. It serves both traditional Japanese as well as a nice selection ot American favorites for those so inclined. You will not be disappointed with either selection options. Attentive friendly service and nice and quiet all add to a most enjoyable dining experience.
I felt like the plates were less decorative than usual. Overall the food was delicious especially the miso soup. The waitress wasn't really able to answer questions about the menu and different selections.
Overall we would return though. Great local place for sushi,
Our favorite, braised short ribs - yum!!
Desserts are pretty good but coffee is no longer served, which is necessary with dessert!!! We met the owner a few years back and gave the restaurant rave reviews. But service has gone down & the restaurant has lost that sparkle. ☹️
We arrived here on Saturday night around 10pm, but the waiter told us that we have only few minutes to order because the kitchen is closing, even at thmain e door shows hour's for Saturday 10.30 pm
The food is good but service wasn't,
we felt like we we're rushed at al time and the waiter didn't come back after the food was served. .been here couple times in the past was much better service..
Hopefully management will take care of it..
living in the neighborhood, we really want to love this restaurant. on certain days, the food can be wonderful; others, not so much. inconsistency is the main problem here. the shrimp fried rice used to be phenomenal, with large pieces of delicious shrimp generously distributed through the dish. last two visits, however, you could barely find the seafood. they used to use great large shrimp in this and the shrimp kushiyaki, but they're now using smaller, less tasty shrimp. and the rice itself was more like quinoa. originally, they used fresh pineapple in the tuna tatami; now, it's canned. and we always order sparkling water with out meals, but half the time, lately, they have none. we've mentioned these and other issues to management, but it doesn't seem to matter.
i will say that the servers are always very eager to please, but it's a shame that as soon as we get to know any single server, they're gone and someone new is in their place. that said, the service is consistently very good.
i really hope they can get their act together, as we'd love to look forward to dining there once a week.
We were surprised with the sushi. Our guest ordered a sushi tray but was disappointed since the rice was hard from probably waiting on the counter too long. I had tekka don n my rice was also dry n hard. My husband had the short ribs - excellent. The meat melted off the bone n was outstanding. The desserts are beautiful n delicious. We should have call the chef but needed to hurry home.
We love this restaurant for consistent over all experience but we were so disappointed in our l sat visit. With tables available in the m a in dinning room we were seated in the lounge area. Our server seemed like she was rushing us which in fact she did. And my food came out cold. We have never had anything but exemplary experiences here. Please let this be a one time bad night. We will be back again,as we are sure this is not the new trend.
We had an wonderful dinner at Makisu on a very snowy Valentine's night. The restaurant is candle lit, and the booths are very romantic. After a glass of wine at the bar, our table was ready. We started with some sushi appetizers then had the chicken terriyaki dinner. Everything was just delicious! Paul and his staff go out of their way to serve you excellent food in a romantic atmosphere. This is a neighborhood gem not to be missed!
Cozy atmosphere and fairplay attentive waiters. Unfortunately, the sushi didn't blow us away. The rolls was rolled pretty loose and the rice wasn't as sticky as normal resulting in rolls and nigiri falling apart when picked up. The fish seemed fresh, but didn't seem to be high quality - the pieces on the nigiri wasn't as light and 'buttery' as you could hope. I won't return - I want delicious, high quality fish when I eat sushi!
