excellent overall. fine cocktails, wine list. shared shrimp and salmon tacos as appys, both excellent. trout and willow basket halibut also outstanding. highly recommend the smores dessert. 5 stars.
A fantastic and extraordinary experience. We had a very delightful time and thoroughly enjoyed absolutely everything. Maize definitely has some of the BEST food in Santa Fe. I cannot think of a better meal I've had in Santa Fe. Everything from the scrumptious appetizers to the full-flavored entrees to the delectable desserts were unbelievably delicious. The service was friendly & attentive and the atmosphere was enjoyable as well. Micaela is gem and will thoroughly take care of you! Thank you Maize, we will be back often.
Oh my gosh! From the greeting to the seating to the service to the food - what a fabulous experience. The food was spectacular. So very good we will be back. And soon!!!
An absolutely amazing experience! Excellent food, engaging service, and wonderful ambiance. A trip to Santa Fe is not complete with a trip to Maize!
Outstanding every respect--ambience, service, food quality & presentation, location.
really nice service - but food was a bit uninspired - Sadly as I like the ambience and everything about the place....
The main inside dining room at Maize has an interesting, beautiful decor, the service is friendly and professional, and the wine list has many varied, interesting options. Unfortunately, the food doesn’t merit a return visit. The butternut squash soup was good and the side of chile potatoes was yummy but the blue corn blinis, avocado tacos and the poblano relleno were uninteresting, the chicken in in the chicken tacos was overcooked and dry, and the ceviche was dry too(!) Many better (and better-valued) choices for Southwestern food in Santa Fe.
We dined at Maize for the first time last Saturday and had a lovely experience. Its location, in a charming old house close to the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, was very convenient to the Plaza area. We availed ourselves of the valet parking service although street parking was also available close by.
We chose to sit inside in Maize's nicely appointed dining room although we were tempted to eat outside on the pretty patio. (There is a separate bar off the patio area which we didn't try before eating although it looked quite nice and inviting. As it is completely separate from the dining room, it is a perfect arrangement, keeping a potentially active bar scene from conflicting with a quiet dining room meal.) We were greeted and seated promptly and our waitperson was delightful and attentive throughout the meal.
As for food, my husband had the Tempura Avocado Tacos to start and I had the Golden Beets and Green Beans. Both were very good. The star of the evening, however, was the Poblano Relleno with Carrot-Pinon Mole and Nogado Sauce which we both had. It was fabulous! I'd have a hard time ordering anything else! I considered trying to talk the chef into letting me buy several quarts of the sauces...
We were too full for dessert so had to call it quits after the relleno but really enjoyed our meal/evening at Maize. When we return to Santa Fe, we will certainly be back!
Food and service was excellent. I thought the kale/romaine Caesar salad was very tasty and my husband thoroughly enjoyed his kobe meatloaf.
It was our anniversary and we wanted to try their lunch-delicious-we have already recommended it to our friends. My husband had the wagu burger which he raved over. I had the SW cobb salad which had a nice smokey flavor to the components.
Thanks for a very memorable anniversary lunch-phoebe.
Great food along with outstanding, friendly service. All in all a very good place
excellent innovative tacos — both the lamb and the spicy shrimp were great!
Lovely atmosphere, great and attentive e staff and serviced the food ROCKS!
Pleasant surprise from the norm of Santa Fe. New, eclectic interior and the food is just delicious. We had the recommended corn crusted trout, which was moist and seasoned perfectly. Our other entry was duck tamale with a wonderful mole.
Our service was handled to perfection by Sara.
Without a doubt, one of the best restaurants in Santa Fe. Subtle sauces, fish, game and meats cooked to perfection, inventive desserts all show that eating basically anything off the menu is a delight. This cozy intimate restaurant has a charming setting, with open air tables for al fresco dining or a beautifully designed interior and attentive wait staff. Ample parking up and down the street and behind the restaurant makes for one of the nicest dining experiences in town. The menu shows what truly great food of the Americas can be. Highly recommended!
Not your everyday menu items; food was delicious and service was great.
I will dream of kale Caesar and tamale for a long time. Also the inspiring decor.
40th bday. We had the BEST waiter (Matthew) and they had delicious spicy margaritas. I’d recommend the Lamb. They participate in the margarita trail and actually know what is going on with the program (unlike some of the more upscale bars).
While visiting Santa Fe, my wife and I chose Maize for a casual dinner one night and made reservations in their bar area. We sat at an elevated table. Mark, our server and the bartender was awesome. We chose three items from their bar menu to share. We started with their Kale and Romaine Caesar with Masa Croutons & Poblano Dressing. It was exquisite, fresh and crisp and dressed perfectly. Next we split their Forest Mushroom Quesadillas with Caramelized Onions & Asadero Cheese. They came with a nice sauce on the side. Very good. Lastly, along with the quesadillas, we shared their Smokin’ Nachos. And they were “smokin’”, as in both spicy and awesome! They came topped with Pulled Pork, Black Beans, and Tillamook Cheddar cheese, not to mention jalapenos. They were excellent. I had a couple of pints of their Santa Fe Marble Red Ale and my wife had pint of their Santa Fe 7K IPA draft. It was an excellent and reasonably priced dinner. Afterwards we enjoyed the pleasant evening air on a walk to the Plaza before walking back to our condo.
Fantastic ambiance in a quiet area but still just a few minutes off the square. The lamb two ways was exquisite and the appetizer tacos were tasty and almost a meal themselves. Will definitely return next time we come to Santa Fe.
Not your Typical new Mexican food. Nothing spectacular, just good food, great service, beautiful ambience.
We were very excited about trying Maize because we have eaten at Bouche and were looking forward to another one of his restaurants. It was not a good experience. We have been dining in Santa Fe for the past 20 years three times a year and we were EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. We were greeted by Staff members that were not familiar with the routine of a nice dining experience. Our waiter took some time before he ordered our drinks and only took 1/3 of the table’s drink orders. We had to call hin back to our table to complete the order. Our water glasses were never refilled without us requesting them to do so. Everyone’s food was cold and our medium rare steak had to be returned because it was well done. We also ordered salads that were never delivered to the table. We asked them to remove the salads from the bill when we asked for our bill. This was an unfortunate experience because we were very excited about dining at a fairly new place in Santa Fe. Unfortunately, we all felt that Maize would not make it in Santa Fe if the level of service and food experience we had continued. We would LOVE for them to attempt to reorganize their staff to a more mature level of dining and this would possibly help.
Everything from good-looking our faces were the grilled octopus and trout- to our lovely server to the pretty and comfortable dining room was so enjoyable. Highly recommended!
Had lunch on the patio - their 2nd day offering lunch
The soft tacos were fantastic!
The patio is lovely...with various sun/shade exposures
The seats were hard but otherwise comfortable. Hope they get cushions
We are here from North Carolina and loved this place. Mark, our waiter, is awesome. Get the fish in the banana leaf.
It was the first day they served lunch. We had a lovely time and everything went smoothly. We will be back!
Unfortunately the bone in steak was tough with way too much fat. Loved the setting and staff was great but menu needs work.
Excellent meal. Food was very good, service was very good and ambience was really nice. Highly recommended.
Outstanding. A great recommendation! Can’t wait to go back!! Thanks Maize for a memorable evening on a beautiful May night in Santa Fe.
Started off our evening with two fabulous cocktails, then a wonderful meal all delivered by a warm competent team. Chef Dale never disappoints!
Excellent food and service!
Food great as usual. Wonderful presentation
Our second time dining at Maize, and nearly perfect - food, service, ambience. Loved the blinis and seviche as shared starters. My companions had the trout, which was wonderful (don’t fail to enjoy the crispy skin), as were my lamb chops and the asparagus and potatoes that came with them. Also beautifully shareable are the very inventive desserts. We shared the “forest floor” (fun, creative, delicious) and found the cappuccino and espresso to be equally excellent.
Did not disappoint. Awesome menu with ample portions. Next time I’m saving room for dessert!
Pleasantly surprised by how great the food was. Took a chance on this place for our anniversary and we both loved it.
Bar service was great. Waitress was very busy and very slow.
Since I live in Santa Fe and restaurants come and go, wanted to try. The presentation of the food was quite good and prepared to our satisfaction. I think it is overpriced but that goes along with Santa Fe eateries in general. Service was good and I probably will return. They have created a nice menu and certainly it is an improvement over the last two restaurants that occupied this space.
We loved Maize. The food was superb, the service exceptional. Don’t miss it. We had the kale and Caesar salad and smoked trout blinis for appetizers, followed by the duck tamale, which included a duck leg confit for our main courses (yes, we each had our own and were so glad not to have to share). We topped it off with the Dreamcatcher dessert which was sublime. The setting is lovely. We’ll definitely go again next visit
Try it! Server Matthew was wonderful. We found the appetizers to be a bit overpriced for what we got, but the main courses were well priced and gorgeous to look at, and fantastic to eat. We did enjoy the elk carpaccio appetizer. Our great meals we had were the Kobe meatloaf and the trout. We would definitely return.
