Maize
regional cuisine. A spacious patio, cozy bar and inviting dining room offer three distinct settings for your enjoyment. Signature cocktails, a varied and well-priced wine list, and exciting fare combined with
attentive service provide our guests with all the elements for a delightful evening.
Even though we have lived here 2 years, this was our 1st visit. Well appointed and comfortable. The service by Matthew was exceptional. He answered the many questions we asked, was knowledgable about the food we considered ordering, more than we have seen in many other high end spots. The 1st course of 3 sister soup was delicious, the caesar salad yummy. The taco's were good, but the pork was a bit dry and diced a little bit too small. We will be back!
Went for date night. Food was very delicious. We will be going back next time we are in Santa Fe!!
Maize came recommended and did not dissapoint.. wonderful food paired with great wine.. terrific service - would recommend for those visiting Santa Fe
We stopped into the restaurant on the way to Sedona- we were walking out when I bumped into the pastry Chef DAVID, who was kind and wonderful enough to share his amazing desserts! A must go!
We had a pleasant Valentines day Dinner that had a few service hiccups but was very nice overall. The Service seemed a bit disjointed with a waiter asking for drink orders and a waitress asking for drinks a second time...all was well after drinks were delivered. The Food was good but not great...Pork served with a broth of Posole and Beans...would have been better without so much liquid...flavors melted into the broth. Green chile potato gratin was tasty but was delivered with appetizers and the waitress happily returned it with the meal...it could use more chiles! Abuelita's chocolate bar was a very good finish to the meal...and we will most definitely try other restaurants in the Chef's family...especially looking forward to Trattoria a Mano!
As usual, the food (Colorado Elk and fabulous potatoes au gratin) was excellent, as was Matthew's service. A beautiful restaurant, with superb food and service.
Met the chef and complimented on his exquisite food served. Very flavorful and aromatic. The salad had many flavors and it was delicious. My main course was a fish I never had before and it was exquisite to the pallet. Service was excellent: Very professional and she catered to our needs. Now that’s service! I will definitely go back.
Maize is a terrific restaurant! The cuisine combines native american, mexican with contemporary influences. Absolutely delicious! Our only concerns were wanting more vegetarian options. All other aspects superlative! Highest recommendation for a lovely night out in Santa Fe.
Excellent service and food!!
We were expecting to have an amazing savory experience and it was disappointing. The flavors were fairly bland, small portions, and we did complain to our waiter who took the dishes back to the chef. Basically they took one dish off our bill. The restaurant is nice but the decor was basically a bunch of dead tree branches on the wall. I ordered the chili relleno and asked if it had a little kick to it because I like a lot of flavor. I didn't find much inside the relleno but rice and maybe a little cumin. Presentation was pretty but I was disappointed in the first bite. Even the sauce was bland. I would pass on this place.
While the ambiance was nice and the service excellent, the meals suffered from a lack of seasoning and tasted quite flat. I expect more from a $32 entree. We did not ask for salt for the table but all four of us agreed on the lack of seasoning.
Maize never fails to make the night out a perfect 10. While the food, ambiance, and drinks are all the best, it is truly the wait staff who make the difference. Would not trade our time there for another venue in Santa Fe-
Thanks to all for keeping everyone happy!!
As expected, dinner at Maize was excellent, the service professional, the food excellent and creative, and the ambiance fine
The bartender Mark is the best! Miguel provided excellent table service. Great evening with great friends, great food, great ambience and superb staff!
The dinner was great. The food was very original and delicious. There was a minor problem in the beginning and the staff was amazing in making everything right.
Maize continues to be our restaurant of choice-It never fails! Food is fabulous, wine of great selection, and the service is simply outstanding.
Have already booked our return (again) trip for February-
Thank you all-
First timeer. Everything great. One of top 2-3 cafes in Santa Fe
Great evening and meal. Always a pleasure to see Michaela and her interesting wine list. Had the duck wings-wonderfully sticky a with delicious blue cheese dipping sauce. Three sisters soup amazing with deep mole accent. Had duck tamale with perfectly crispy duck leg accented by mole. Wonderful! Date had lamb two ways-also very tasty. Eat here several times a year and always very pleased!
Delicious food in a warm, comfortable and beautiful environment. Excellent service and first rate sommelier.
We shall keep coming back. Regional food prepared well. The atmosphere is lovely and well done in homage to the name, Maize. A perfect place for a special evening or a simple supper.
Excellent service, excellent food and pleasant environment!
Excellent experience. Delicious authentic high-end Mexican food
We went to Maize for dinner last night and had a great meal. We had the 3 Sisters soup, the Duck Tamale, Caldo Verde and the Dreamcatcher for dessert. Truly some of the best food we've eaten anywhere and tops in Santa Fe. Everything was prepared to perfection; duck skin was perfectly crisp, the pine nuts on the Dreamcatcher were toasted to perfection, the pistachio ice cream was pistachio, not pistachio flavored. The 3 Sisters was one of the most creative soups we've had, perfect for a cold Santa Fe night.
My only quibble, and this applies to many restaurants, is that we prefer fizzy water but would prefer if it wasn't bottled and shipped from Italy. Why not get a soda stream or equivalent and be a bit more environmentally friendly?
Interesting take on Northern N.M.cuisine. Not too often do you see duck tamales, for instance. My swordfish was a tad dry, but tasty. My son's lamb 2 ways (shank and tart) was absolutely wonderful. Some of the best lamb I've eaten. Attentive service, very nice decor.
We loved Maize. The food and service were great. Would definitely come back.
Excelente service. Good innovative foods.
Two of us ate dinner at Maize on New Year's Eve, our 25th anniversary. Dinner was very good, but not $370 good. The $125 per person fixed price menu ballooned to $370. Two glasses of wine, a mandatory tip of 18 percent. No bread w the meal, service was perfunctory and impersonal, didn't even get an offer of coffee at the end. Not a value. Won't be returning to Maize. Hope it's not like tHat all the time. Made reservation on Open table, still had to wait for a table. Likely the worst dinner value I've ever encountered. No mas.
Went there on New Year's Eve. A little pricey but for a special occasion, it's worth it. Wait staff was very attentive. Food was outstanding. I would put it on a list with the Compound and Geronimo.
Very creative utilization of ingredients and flavors produces a unique experience.
My wife and I wanted a fine dining experience to start off our New Year's Eve celebration. Maize was it. Upscale. Santa Fe decor and experience. They seated us next to a window where we could watching the snow falling... perfect location. They offered a pre-fixe menu for New Year's Eve and it did not disappoint. My only wish was that soup had been served hot (it was still delicious), and that the dessert was better (it was titled "Tres Leche Cheesecake" - it was neither a wet cake nor cheesecake) - it was the only disappointment of the evening. The service was outstanding - friendly and attentive. The NYE meal was expensive, but I would definitely make a return visit. After dinner, it was a short walk to the Plaza for the New Year's eve scenery and celebration.
New Year's Eve is not our personal favorite time to enjoy dining out, but Maize exceeded our expectations on a night when most restaurants under-perform. The prix fixe menu was thoughtful, imaginative, and tasty. The presentation was excellent and the service was superb. The price was reasonable given the Holiday and we were totally satisfied. The ambiance was warm and eclectic with conversation enjoyable at a normal tone of voice.
Unique and delicious food, well-priced, excellent service. Great wine selection with perfect rrecommendationsfrom the sommelier. Can't wait to go back!!!
My wife and I celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary and had a fantastic dinner at Maize. The food and service were great!
Maize is a nuevo New Mexican restaurante. About half of its menu consists of modernized versions of New Mexican and Mexican staples: tacos, tamales, chile rellenos, moles, etc. though it also has items more typical of an upscale restaurant: steak, fish, shrimp, prepared with interesting twists. Most of the (non-desert) menu is gluten free. We ate there for Christmas eve after viewing Canyon road's decorations. My wife had the squash soup with the wicker basket (specially prepared fish. She raved about both. My daughter and I spit the "ash" tamale appetizer and had separate orders of the special: duck with potatoes, grilled vegetables, and a tropical fruit sauce. The tamale had a subtle smoked flavor that went well with its shrimp and mole. The duck was excellent. My daughters found the prickly pear margarita too strong, but my wife and I both enjoyed it. I had the chocolate mouse and "turron" ice cream desert and it was wonderful.
Our experience here was exceptional in every aspect. Also, Maize has good vibes.
We dined with friends on December 24. Compared to our previous five dining experiences at Maize, we were extremely disappointed with the food. The duck breast was barely warm. The duck in the duck tamale was quite good, but the tamale itself was tasteless. The sea bass tasted very ordinary. Overall the food did not measure up to previous meals at Maize and other fine dining venues in Santa Fe.
Very good, not noisy good for great meal and nice for a date nite.
The food and service were very good, only issue is that the tables are tall for the chairs
Second visit....Food was excellent.....service was lovely and friendly...outside was a real treat in the fall and for a winter meal it was cozy and inviting.
Great lighting..not too dark not too light...might go back again tomorrow!
An absolutely fabulous restaurant with an inventive menu, fantastic service, beautiful ambiance, and a beautiful bar. Maize has become my favorite restaurant in Santa Fe, and that’s high praise indeed.
