First time to finally visit Maison Akira after several years of wondering what it was like and sadly, it was very disappointing. We ordered a couple of glasses of wine but they brought out the wrong wines not once, but twice. The first time, ok that happens, but the second time, bringing over two glasses of the wrong wine yet again felt embarrassing and very amateurish. And we were also made to feel slightly at fault for their mistake. Not good. Onto the food. We had a few questions about how the dishes were prepared. The two waiters seemed uncertain which was surprising. And one eggplant dish, they had no clue what the sauce was and had to ask another waitress over who seemed to be more senior. By this time, I was wishing we were elsewhere. The main courses themselves took an age to come and so our wine glasses - we eventually got the correct ones - were long empty by the time the food did turn up. Nobody offered us another glass in the meantime which was fine really as we couldn't be bothered risking further confusion and awkwardness anyway and wanted to cut our losses at this stage and leave when we could. The food itself was fine but nothing remarkable, certainly not for the prices. Between us, we had sea bass and scallops. They were pretty good. However, I figured a simple Caesar salad would be a safe bet but the dressing had a slightly 'off' note to it. I can't say that I particularly liked the interior either which may seem a minor gripe when everything else was rather bad but I believe this is a restaurant that diners come to for special occasions or a date so it ought to look a little special, too. Parties of two - as we were - seemed to be seated in a corridor area. The larger room beyond seemed more attractive and possibly had more atmosphere but overall, the restaurant looked very old-fashioned and dated but not in any sort of charming way. I will say that the young woman pouring us water was attentive.
Our favorite restaurant ever! Romantic, quiet...!! Best chef in town! Excellent employees, Gustavo, Ashley, Sophia, Alberto, etc, everyone there are very attentive, professional! The food is just delicious! Try the Sunday brunch, guaranteed you, will be the BEST and unforgettable!
We love ordering the Bento Boxes. Lots of delicious different choices.
Always consistently good. We enjoy dining here. It was a bit toasty though. I think the a/c was having a problem that evening.
My mom’s birthday. It’s one of our favorite restaurant in town. The food is consistently EXCELLENT! Mr. Akira is an excellent chef. His preparation is full of love and you can tell he is absolutely an artist. We just love this restaurant.,
Love their Sunday brunch!!
The food was exquisite.
Went for the tasting menu. Very rarely got a description of what we were eating. There was a damp smell when you first walked in. Some courses were inedible. Other courses were good, not great. However, the chocolate soufflé was THE BEST I have ever had. Saving grace of the meal.
Excellent Food - Fusion French / Japanese !
Service is just ok for this level of Pricing Restaurant !
Music is classical / instrumental, nice !
Decor is simple - nothing spectacular !
Excellent Food !!!
Always a great meal every time! We have been going to Maison Akira for over 10 years, we are never disappointed.
For an expensive restaurant the food was just not that great.
Pre-fixe menu was exceptional and beautifully arranged. Looked forward to each course that followed and was able to complete seven courses. Service was highly attentive and made a great wine recommendation. They made our evening fun and wonderful and worth celebrating my cousin's 40th birthday. It was her first time at Maison Akira and she couldn't stop raving about the experience.
We ordered the bento box and got to taste a variety of outstanding dishes. They serve this for lunch and Maison Akira is only open on Fridays for lunch. We have also had dinner at this restaurant several times.
Sunday brunch at Maison Akira is always a delight, but the food was particularly delicious this time round. Perfect celebratory meal!
cute little spot! all the staff here were very friendly and attentive. the food was also very good. came here for my bfs bday and we got the 7 course dinner. i must say, my favorite part of it all was the dessert! it was the apple tart! definitely recommend this. the over ambience was nice, it was very quiet inside, you can pretty much hear everyone’s conversation. the theme was french like inside with japanese inspired food choices. i would come back again. and would definitely recommend others here!
Honestly, a bit disappointed in the experience - food is great, just took FOREVER to come out - seemed like the kitchen was backed up and not experienced in firing out dishes timely in a full house. Our 4-course meal took almost 3 hours...we were falling asleep. The service was OK - and could be better to accommodate the diners and the food for an overall pleasant experience. I was there for my mother's 60th surprise birthday but with the really slow service and food delays, we didn't even ask or bother to celebrate during dessert - and the waiter didn't remember either. The decor / restaurant itself needs updating as well.
Excellent as always: impeccable and authentic French food with a Japanese, that is, healthy and esthetic flair, great service, especially from Alex. Only criticism: restaurant no longer generous with bread: only one slice served until the customer requests more, and this economical feature is most un-French.
My wife and I celebrated our 12th anniversary here on a Saturday night. We brought our children, 10 & 6 years old, and the restaurant made chicken spaghetti for them (not on the menu). Didn't think my son could appreciate duck foie gras, so we sincerely appreciate Maison Akira for accommodating the children. We were able to see the dinner menu online before we arrived. My wife had the bento box and a pomegranate wine, and I had the Chilean sea bass. Both were delicious and beautifully arranged. The prices are toward the high end for our family, but well worth it for such a lovely dining experience on our anniversary.
The lighting in the restaurant was just what my wife and I had hoped for - not bright and not too dim. The noise level was just right for our family, too. Our children enjoyed the atmosphere and the experience as well.
While posing for a photo just before we left, I knocked over and broke a flower pot. How embarrassing. The staff was gracious about my accidentally flooring their orchid, so I cannot say enough about the service - friendly, professional, courteous, personable, and of course gracious.
Parking for a fee is right next to the restaurant, but the first hour is free with validation from one of the surrounding businesses. Were there for about 2 hours, so parking was $3 (cash). I highly, highly recommend Maison Akira for a special occasion.
It’s one of our favorite restaurant. Great ambience. Not too noisy, not too quiet. Food seldom disappoint. Good value. Love their soufflé!
I had been to Maison Akira years ago and remembered that it was a really unique place. I decided to take my mom there to celebrate that she passed her driving test. We did the chef's tasting menu with pairings. AMAZING. we loved it. We had a fabulous time. The service was super great too. The staff made me and my mom feel super special. We will definitely be back.
Thank You Maison Akira.
The Chilean sea bass was amazing as was all of the the dishes we ordered. The service was perfect and they made sure the wine was spot on with our food (allowing us to taste a few before choosing). They ensured every thing was perfect.
I was meeting a close friend for dinner because we hadn't dined together for several months. We both like French food, and she'd never been to Maison Akira. From the moment we walked in the door, everything was perfectly lovely. The service was professional, yet also very warm and friendly. Our menu choices couldn't have been better. I enjoyed the salad with several types of beets; she had the Caesar salad. She ordered lamb chops; I settled on duck breast. The accompaniments were fresh and tasty, and the lamb chops and duck breast superb. I took a quick trip to the ladies' room, and when I returned, there sat a beautiful pastry cup full of fresh berries atop Vanilla ice cream with a delicate web of spun sugar (and a slender candle in the middle) that completed the basket effect. Like everything else, it was not only beautiful, but delicious. To sum it all up, we had a marvelous, leisurely meal (which was just what we wanted) and were tremendously pleased and impressed with every aspect.
The positives: amazing 5-star meal (try the 7-course tasting menu, unreal!), great service, quiet dining. Room-for-improvement: ambiance - very tired interior - truly needs to be completely refurbished; plenty of space for a baby grand piano and live music. The chef deserves a restaurant space that is as fantastic as everything he prepared.
This was our second birthday celebration and Maison Akira did not disappoint. The service is professional, friendly, discreet, attentive. The food was elegant, well prepared and beautifully served. For a special occasion, this restaurant was superb - a quiet, intimate place to share with your closest friends.
Our experience at this restaurant for Easter Brunch with the extended family was great. The food quality and variety was excellent. My husband and I look forward to going there for dinner and trying several other options on the menu. We had two small children with us and were concerned that they may not have been appropriate for the ambiance, but we felt very comfortable. The only down spot was the service. All of the servers were very pleasant and responsive once we asked them for things, but they were slow and disorganized on their own.
We were looking for a place for 8 people to replace AKA for Wednesday nights before Playhouse performances. Four couples each bring a bottle of wine. AKA always waived their corkage charge, Akira wants $20 for the first bottle and $30 for each additional. Sorry, that kills our plan. We'll come again, but by ourselves.
One of my favorite restaurant for brunch! Quality is top notch and absolutely delish.
Maison Akira offers a delightful mixture of French and Japanese cuisine. The unusual dishes are very well prepared and beautifully displayed. We have dined here many times over the years and always enjoy the "different" experience Akira offers. It's quite pricey, but one does not expect otherwise from a quality restaurant like this . It has a quiet and refined atmosphere with beautiful classical music in the background. Other than their regular menu, the restaurant offers set menus that can be ordered by itself or with wine pairing. We highly recommend it for people who like a more classic European environment, excellent service, and a menu that is somewhat unique.
Great food, but on this visit, the service was slow and mixed up
The food was exceptional, the service was gracious, and the ambience was understated elegance. We were there on a weeknight when it was not crowded, but the dining areas have a feeling of spaciousness instead of tables squeezed together. The noise was muted and conversation did not necessitate straining. This is a special occasion place, but most enjoyable. We will be back.
Consistently good. We always enjoy dining at Maison Akira.
Authentic and modern French cuisine, i.e. lighter, slightly "fusion" more than traditional French, impeccable taste and presentation in elegant atmosphere with wonderful staff, great waiters and manager -Alex is particularly excellent.
Expensive of course, but its elegance and perfect cuisine make the cost worthwhile
Very memorable dining experience. Thank you! Sea bass was so tender and the Bento box full of delight. Dessert alone (baked Alaska) was worth the trip.
Everything about this place was perfect. The food choices are varied enough that we want to go back. My husband had the four course prix fixed menu and I had a starter and entree. The food was amazing and plentiful. Our waitress had a French accent and was able to help us pick a wine that went with both our meals. The service was the right amount of checking in and clearing without being annoying. The decor and seating was fancy, but cozy and welcoming.
This restaurant never disappoints. The food is terrific. The wine pairing is always "right on". The staff is appropriately attentive in providing service. We like to choose this location for those special occasions when we want to pamper ourselves with the food and service.
It was exceptional. Service and quality of food. The manager Christine was amazingly nice and generous. I’m looking forward to visiting again
We went to Maison Akira for our 24th anniversaries. Their services were very polite and all of foods tasted great! Thanks chef!!
Consistently, the food is prepared with the finest attention to detail. The Oyster Flan (savory and smooth) for appetizer was incredible! The Bento Box is also always a favorite--duck foie gras, miso sea bass, wagyu steak, chawan mushi, and sashimi. The only disappointment was the champagne cocktails. They were neither very cold/bubbly, nor did the flavor taste right (added chambord liquer). I recommend staying with the wine offerings, which are much more en pointe.
Great food. Great service. One of the places to eat in Pasadena.
Extremely bad service
And mediocre food
The Chef should not brag having worked with Joel Robuchon
Or claim that if not well done the leg of Lamb is to hard !
And one other negative the toilets hygiene is B-
Didn't care for the buffet which was our only option despite what was noted on the website. Food was cold and beef was full of fat. Not appetizing
