The staff was very attentive and professional. The food and wine were both excellent in price and quality. The atmosphere was cozy and had a nice ambiance. Located in a beautiful corner of a beautiful neighborhood in Gramercy. I highly recommend the sea bass. Ordering coffee with your dessert is a must. They have well-trained baristas, an elite espresso machine and serve a high-quality coffee in Joe's Coffee. Few restaurants make any effort to serve quality coffee. Gratuity included was a nice touch. Removes one last minor headache.
We found Maialino to be overpriced and over-rated.
Having Seen the documentary about Dan Meijer on 60 minutes, we decided to try out this restaurant and the Union Square Cafe, while visiting NYC and we were sorely disappointed by Maialino, it took 35 minutes before we were asked what we would like
to eat, and the FEGATO my husband ordered as appetizer was truly disgusting, it looked horrible and tasted even worse, then he had “0sso Bucco” (oxtail )and that was served in a bowl, which made it very hard to maneuver the bones to get the meat off, and very unfortunate the sauce that accompanied the oxtail was far too sweet.
When my husband was finished eating a waiter immediately ran up
to him to ask whether he wanted to have a “doggy bag” for the bones, which was quite idiotic!
Desert “torta alla nonna” was rather bland because it was covered with pinoli (pine nuts) which had not been roasted and they should have been!
If you boast about being an Italian restaurant, make sure that the chef reads the cookbook “mama Toscana” he can learn from it,
Wines overpriced for what you get, only one Vino Nobile on the menu is truly a disgrace and the wine menu was emphasizing the Brunello.
Compared to the USC, Maialino is mediocre, and that may be a generous judgement!
All in all an interesting evening but most definitely not what mr Meijer
could have intended
Joined for brunch. All the food was beautiful and delicious. The pancakes were out of this world. Service was flawless! Amazing time!
Great brunch spot — ricotta pancakes and cacio e pepe eggs are awesome.
Firstly the staff was really accommodating and was able to move my reservation time. 2nd time there, the appearance inside was really nice to impress someone for a brunch. The food was delicious, didn't take the waiter recommendations but the food was great but a little expensive than I'm use to. Staff was attentive and kept refilling my cup.
We had dinner one day and then brunch. Highest quality, super charming, tip included.
Our table was waiting and we were seated before the time of our reservation. The menu was varied, the bakery goods delicious and our waiter was helpful.
Our server was really EXCELLENT ( Im just so sorry I can’t remember his name) and fantastic food. We had dinner there on Saturday night, 2/17 at 8 pm for 5 people under the name Felicia Sable, or Sable. I believe we sat in the back corner round table on the right side. We were there for an occasion and it was perfect for what we were looking for. It can get a bit loud at times, my 89 year old dad had trouble hearing across the table until the large party of young men sitting behind us left. Then the whole noise level was actually much better for all of us, and dad could hear all! We will definitely go back. The chicken is absolutely dreamy! And I ordered it at the recommendation of our server. Everyone else’s pastas were also crazy great! Our server gave everyone at the table great recommendations in response to our questions. He was very attentive to meet all our needs, he even gladly took a few photos of our group which was a bonus and finally served with a huge smile and great personality. Every experience starts with the server and he set us off on a great foot and was so on task throughout the whole experience. I hope you can figure out who he is from my comments and give him some praise and our thanks!
Solid across the board. The kindness of the staff enhances the experience of the decor and delicious food.
