What Insiders Are Saying

The Infatuation

Danny Meyer’s Gramercy Park Roman Italian restaurant is better than we initially thought, especially for a date or an upscale brunch.

Ratings 8.0-8.5:The best way to think about restaurants in the low to mid 8′s is that these are the places you would absolutely go back to, anytime. These restaurants are ones that you want to bring a friend to, just so they can also experience the duck carnitas, or burger, or whatever dish the place is known for.

Love the food and it never disappoints! Also love that that the total cost is just bundled into the price you see on the menu and tips aren't part of it. I like to come every time I'm in new york.

Stars docked on service because our waiter (who overall was very nice) asked if we wanted "the entree portion" of the pastas we ordered (group of 2 women). I get the same thing every time and I've never had them ask me this question. He didn't clarify what that meant or how it was any different than the menu we were looking at, so we assumed the entree was the standard portion listed on the menu (and the alternative was some sort of 'side' of pasta that's off menu). Later found out that the entree portion is bigger than the regular menu, and it's almost twice the cost ($42 for bolognese!). What's on the menu is their 'normal' size that is certainly enough for one person. We wasted half the pasta!!

Why aren't there two sizes listed on the menu if that's an option? Why ask about entrees without offering up the information about the size and cost? Felt a little duped by the waiter on that one, and wouldn't recommend that be a practice for Maialino in the future. Also would recommend you ask what they're offering you, because it might be off menu and more spendy!

As is the case, the food is consistently terrific and the service is first rate. Superior wine list and home-made deserts (fantastic.) Great pasta and fish dishes. You must try MalfattiBraised Suckling Pig & Arugula! Out of this world delicious!

Very disappointed. The server was not knowledgeable and service was lacking. Did not expect this from a Danny Meyer restaurant. Once the Director of service got involved, it was a better experience. The chef needs to review its breakfast menu.

Perfectly adequate. Not much more. Would be happy to take the parents or do a work outing. Not a special occasion restaurant anymore.

The Popetti (Lamb meatballs) were amazing, the Malfatti (Braised Sucking Pig & Arugula) was sensational - The pasta was melt in your mouth good. So good, we considered ordering an additional portion. Amazing dinner experience.

Phenomenal food and service. We really appreciated that although we were 20 mins late for our reservation we weren’t hassled during our 2+ hr dinner. Made for a perfect evening.

Fresh and tasty food in a very nice atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and provided excellent service.

Our food took a bit longer than expected due to a large function in the private room. The staff were very apologetic for this and provided some complimentary antipasti. Unexpectantly, they also gave us some cookies on our way out. This definitely placated any disappointment we felt.

We appreciate hospitality being included in the price.

lots of fun! A family get-together that was a blast. First our server, Lu, was OUTSTANDING. She is absolutely helpful, friendly, on top of things ... Loved her! The pork 'maialino' was great too - wine list excellent. All of the pasta dishes we ordered were fantastic. I had tripe first, which was suprisingly good - it can often taste gamey.
Dessert we opted for cookies which were delicious.
All in, a lovely time and fun place to be. Warm, convivial and a hot spot.

Seems like this place has taken its eye off the ball. Except for some worthwhile by-the-glass wines, there was little to recommend.

There is no better place in New York to eat a “maialino”. Add a simple dish of pasta and your dinning experience is perfect.

Not as good as it used to be but still a lovely dinner. Excellent and helpful sommelier Kim. Lamb sausage cavatelli too heavy on the salt. Frito Misto vegetables a bit bland. Delicious desserts

Simply exquisite. This is my go to Italian restaurant. I'm a heckler for consistency, excellent food made with fresh authentic ingredients, outstanding (and I mean OUT-STANDING) service that is attentive without being exacerbating. The sommelier was spot-on, the pastry chef tended to our pickiest little requests for a birthday cake. This place somehow manages to do it all right, if you crave traditional Roman cuisine, this is your spot.
There is a special place in my heart for the Torta della nonna, and this place gets it right.
Well done you guys!

Food here is very good and portions are just right. I have been here multiple times everything is outstanding. Restaurant is very nice via decor. It’s NYC so yes pasta is high twenty dollars. Bill adds up quick but exceptional in every way.

I only wish I could find some fault so that maybe it would be easier to get a reservation! A nearly perfect evening. The food is consistently incredible and the service is outstanding, from the front desk to the waiters to the sommelier, even after eliminating tipping. We can't wait to our next meal here.

I docked the ambience a little because the restaurant was just so chilly that my teen had to wear his coat inside. Be sure to order the Maialino suckling pig - it is well worth the expense.

First time doing brunch after enjoying many dinners here. It was extremely disappointing. The waiter recommended brunch dishes were terrible. The service was extremely slow. We had to repeated request to be helped. Overall a very disappointing experience for a $70 brunch for two people with no alcohol.

Consistenly high quality food and service. Always a reliable choice. Hostesses sometimes may be a little distracted (e.g., with taking or bringing out coats), but generally - attentive and on-time service. The restaurant dining room has a cozy and elegant setting and feel, and the servers also maintain that level of welcome sophistication.

We went to celebrate my friend's birthday. The brunch was delicious, the service was thoughtful, generous and attentive, and the place was lovely. We had a reservation for 10 am, when it opened, and it was wonderful to have the place nearly to ourselves. By the time we left, it had filled up and was abuzz with the murmur of conversation -- also very pleasant! I really enjoyed my sunnyside egg, biscuit, and sausage along with a cappuccino with oat milk. My friend loved the ricotta pancakes and pear jam. We finished with a scoop of the champagne sorbet to share, which was light and slightly fruity. (My only quibble was with my bacon side, since I happen to prefer what I think of as American-style bacon -- thinly sliced and very, very crispy.)

Came here for my birthday on a Thursday night and had a great time with my date! We had the olives and seared octopus to start. I had the special (that night was a pasta dish with seafood) and he had the tortelli. For dessert, we split the torta della nonna. It was all delicious! The service was great. Our waiter was very knowledgable about the menu and made great drink recommendations. The atmosphere was that of a cozy, neighborhood restaurant. We had a great time and would definitely come back!
