Danny Meyer’s Gramercy Park Roman Italian restaurant is better than we initially thought, especially for a date or an upscale brunch.
Staff was great. We were seated late and received complimentary prosecco and when there was a long wait between courses we were provided something as compensation. Service was top notch on all other fronts as well.
My wife's birthday--and she's on a tough, medically restricted diet. Maialino made it special. Great food.
Great service! Running late for reservation. Called ahead to let them know and they were very accommodating. Food was excellent. My husband loved the red fish. Nice cozy atmosphere - not pretentious at all.
Maialino has long been regarded as one of NYC's premier Italian food destinations, where world-class pastas are enhanced by an equally impressive wine list. In terms of food, consider the many pork based dishes (Maialino means Little Pig in Italian). For wine, there is both a good many values on the menu or, if splurging, numerous reference point Italian gems from myriad vintages. In recent weeks I've enjoyed both the main dining room and a casual bite a the bar. Both delightful.
Been to Maialino several times but this wasn't the most memorable visit. Had to wait 20 minutes for our reservation. The service was inattentive. And the Spaghetti alla Carbonara and Spaghettini alle Vongole were mediocre. Still one of my favorite places to dine though.
Fantastic food and great service! I will recommend to everyone!
Fit for foodies
Great food and experience, server was good, did not know about 2:30 close of kitchen so we were rushed but that was ok. Portions are a bit smaller than what you might expect but that’s fine - great meal and will definitely be back
Excellent service and great food! The olive oil muffins are to die for, as is the suckling pig pasta!
I looked forward with enthusiasm to dining here. I am sorry to say that I was really disappointed. Both my friend and I ordered a mixed salad to start. The lettuces were actually wilted; each of our salads looked like they were leftover from a day ago. I expected fresh leaves that looked healthy but they were truly wilted and looked quite unappetizing.
I had the caccio è pepe and was not impressed at all; it was pretty much what one is served at Italian restaurants of much less renown. My friend had the red fresh. It was cooked very well, presented well, and tasted delicious.
I have another reservation in two weeks to celebrate a friend's birthday but this past Friday's experience has taken the joy of anticipation out of my upcoming visit.
As I said, I am sorry to have had this experience; I was hoping I would have been delighted instead.
Great place! Has become our favorite NY city restaurant!!
Great service, superb food (prosciutto and mozzarella, redfish).
Creative, well executed menu, great wine list at moderate and high prices, sound level allows for conversation. Never felt rushed to turn the table. Meals at Maialino feel like a celebration.
I love Miailino, really I do. It's bright and airy, sparkling with lively conversation (but not too loud), the waitstaff is lovely, and the food is delicious. Here' my "beef" with the piglet: I ordered a Sea Bass and Tomato Stew. The price was $34. It smelled divine and tasted wonderful. There was just one problem: If I'm not mistaken, I think that had all of the ingredients been placed in Pyrex measuring cup, the amount would have come up to the the 1-cup line. I don't mind paying for good food, but $34 for one cup of soup is just a bit over the top. There was a single two- to three-inch piece of sea bass fillet, about five vongole (the clams that are as large as your thumb nail, tops) and a lot of tomato sauce. I had an Aperol Spritz before my "stew" arrived. My lunch partner had a porchetta sandwich and sparkling water. The bill (tip included) came to just about $100. Don't you think that's a bit much, even for NY?
Perfection. Love this place.
Estoy sorprendido de el menú tan pequeño y los platos de calidad inferior pero lo que más me sorprende es que alla algunos libros especializados que le den buena puntuación si usted quiere comer buena comida Italiana vallan a otro sitio
My favorite in New York! Always delivers: breakfast, lunch and dinner! And what a wine list!! Rodney said the burger was the best he’s had & I love the pasta! Keep it coming :-)!!
Excellent food, wonderful service and a very knowledgable waiter. Busy but a great ambience. Wine was expensive. Would return for a special occasion.
Love this place. Consistently outstanding food & lots of gluten free options (including bread & pasta). Service is always immaculate. I like that gratuity is already included.
Came for brunch. Nice ambiance, Knowledgeable server but all pork products (guanciale, pork sandwich, etc) tasted like refrigerator
Great atmosphere- buzzing yet not too trendy or pretentious. Food was really delicious and service was great. A cozy and fun place
This was my 3rd time at Maialino and the food was delicious. However, I'd like to submit some feedback on the service. We came for lunch to celebrate my Mom's birthday. Our server greeted us cordially upon our arrival. I told him we were celebrating my Mom's birthday. We were stunned and slightly offended to hear his reply - "oh how old are you?". Etiquette 101- never ask a lady her age, especially in the service industry. A simple "happy birthday" or "glad you are here to celebrate with us" would've been a more appropriate response. The waiter was fine otherwise, checked in on us throughout the meal, and accommodated my request for a candle on my Mom's dessert. I also emailed Maialino this feedback and have not heard a peep from them. Disappointing!
Always, Simply Wonderful!
Have been going for years - never a hint of disappointment - What a restaurant should be - gracious hospitality with just the right attention, delicious food, in a warm inviting atmosphere. Thank you Danny Meyer and USHG.
One of the best dinners I’ve had in New York
We have been to Maialino many times but it was the first time for our foodie friends from Chicago . We wanted them to experience the best in Roman cuisine in NYC and Maialino didn’t disappoint. From the chicken liver crostini through dessert every dish was excellent as was the service.
Always a favorite for us and now a favorite of two Chicagoans.
loved it! had our anniverary dinner there and the service was phenomenal. definitely recommend
Just wonderful. We brought my parents for a special treat when they were visiting us from Canada. The food was fantastic as we knew it would be. The staff was amazing as always. Special thanks to Kaitlyn our wonderful server and Ben the lovely Sommelier who were both great company while doing there jobs effortlessly. A really magical evening for all of us. THANK YOU!!
We love this place and been here many times.
It was the first time having the pre-fixe menu which was splendid. It’s a wonderful value and would come back for this. Everything we ordered was delectable and the service was decent but a bit too familiar for our taste.
Nice ambiance during off-peak hours.
Food was very good overall. Chicken sausage was delicious, however was presented as a single sausage link on a bare plate, nothing underneath it, not even a spring of parsley on the plate...lousy presentation. Carbonara was tasty. Trout very good. Wine selection was good, however at $20-$25 a glass, pricey. Chocolate hazelnut cake was delicious.
Table service was good, and server was knowledgeable. Bar service was slow, and generally unprofessional...staff appeared to be inconvenienced by our presence at the bar. Champagne was served in a wine goblet, rather than a flute... incongruous at $35 a glass!
Do not dine here if you are expecting a special brunch. Some friends and I were hoping for a memorable Easter Sunday experience, but left feeling very underwhelmed. Everything from the service to the food was mediocre, at best. Our server complained about what a terrible morning he had, which was an unpleasant way to kick off the meal to say the least. In my opinion, no one paying these prices should have to listen to complaints of any kind from the staff. Then our first order, the bread basket, came out before any of our drinks. When our drinks finally were in sight, they were almost brought to a different table because apparently the server was confused about who was getting what. Our pastas then came out, all at room temperature, and this really was like a dagger through my heart. There was no finesse, no care it seemed, put into these dishes. By the end of the meal everyone was in agreement that Maialino was not at the top of its game, like it may have been some time ago.
Amazing food and experience. The salads are exceptional and the Pasta Bolognese is perfection.
Excellent options with good service and good wine choices. Food was creative and delicious.
As usual, the food and service were outstanding. I no longer live in NYC, but if I did this would be my every week go to spot. As it is, I dine here whenever I am in NYC.
Service excellent. Ambiance lovely. Just wish the lunch menu had a few more options. A bit too many offerings featuring guanciale!!
Love the food and it never disappoints! Also love that that the total cost is just bundled into the price you see on the menu and tips aren't part of it. I like to come every time I'm in new york.
Stars docked on service because our waiter (who overall was very nice) asked if we wanted "the entree portion" of the pastas we ordered (group of 2 women). I get the same thing every time and I've never had them ask me this question. He didn't clarify what that meant or how it was any different than the menu we were looking at, so we assumed the entree was the standard portion listed on the menu (and the alternative was some sort of 'side' of pasta that's off menu). Later found out that the entree portion is bigger than the regular menu, and it's almost twice the cost ($42 for bolognese!). What's on the menu is their 'normal' size that is certainly enough for one person. We wasted half the pasta!!
Why aren't there two sizes listed on the menu if that's an option? Why ask about entrees without offering up the information about the size and cost? Felt a little duped by the waiter on that one, and wouldn't recommend that be a practice for Maialino in the future. Also would recommend you ask what they're offering you, because it might be off menu and more spendy!
As is the case, the food is consistently terrific and the service is first rate. Superior wine list and home-made deserts (fantastic.) Great pasta and fish dishes. You must try MalfattiBraised Suckling Pig & Arugula! Out of this world delicious!
Very disappointed. The server was not knowledgeable and service was lacking. Did not expect this from a Danny Meyer restaurant. Once the Director of service got involved, it was a better experience. The chef needs to review its breakfast menu.
Great service, great food. Must try the malted honeycomb gelato!
Perfectly adequate. Not much more. Would be happy to take the parents or do a work outing. Not a special occasion restaurant anymore.
The Popetti (Lamb meatballs) were amazing, the Malfatti (Braised Sucking Pig & Arugula) was sensational - The pasta was melt in your mouth good. So good, we considered ordering an additional portion. Amazing dinner experience.
