The staff was very attentive and professional. The food and wine were both excellent in price and quality. The atmosphere was cozy and had a nice ambiance. Located in a beautiful corner of a beautiful neighborhood in Gramercy. I highly recommend the sea bass. Ordering coffee with your dessert is a must. They have well-trained baristas, an elite espresso machine and serve a high-quality coffee in Joe's Coffee. Few restaurants make any effort to serve quality coffee. Gratuity included was a nice touch. Removes one last minor headache.
We found Maialino to be overpriced and over-rated.
Having Seen the documentary about Dan Meijer on 60 minutes, we decided to try out this restaurant and the Union Square Cafe, while visiting NYC and we were sorely disappointed by Maialino, it took 35 minutes before we were asked what we would like
to eat, and the FEGATO my husband ordered as appetizer was truly disgusting, it looked horrible and tasted even worse, then he had “0sso Bucco” (oxtail )and that was served in a bowl, which made it very hard to maneuver the bones to get the meat off, and very unfortunate the sauce that accompanied the oxtail was far too sweet.
When my husband was finished eating a waiter immediately ran up
to him to ask whether he wanted to have a “doggy bag” for the bones, which was quite idiotic!
Desert “torta alla nonna” was rather bland because it was covered with pinoli (pine nuts) which had not been roasted and they should have been!
If you boast about being an Italian restaurant, make sure that the chef reads the cookbook “mama Toscana” he can learn from it,
Wines overpriced for what you get, only one Vino Nobile on the menu is truly a disgrace and the wine menu was emphasizing the Brunello.
Compared to the USC, Maialino is mediocre, and that may be a generous judgement!
All in all an interesting evening but most definitely not what mr Meijer
could have intended
Joined for brunch. All the food was beautiful and delicious. The pancakes were out of this world. Service was flawless! Amazing time!
Great brunch spot — ricotta pancakes and cacio e pepe eggs are awesome.
Firstly the staff was really accommodating and was able to move my reservation time. 2nd time there, the appearance inside was really nice to impress someone for a brunch. The food was delicious, didn't take the waiter recommendations but the food was great but a little expensive than I'm use to. Staff was attentive and kept refilling my cup.
We had dinner one day and then brunch. Highest quality, super charming, tip included.
Our table was waiting and we were seated before the time of our reservation. The menu was varied, the bakery goods delicious and our waiter was helpful.
Our server was really EXCELLENT ( Im just so sorry I can’t remember his name) and fantastic food. We had dinner there on Saturday night, 2/17 at 8 pm for 5 people under the name Felicia Sable, or Sable. I believe we sat in the back corner round table on the right side. We were there for an occasion and it was perfect for what we were looking for. It can get a bit loud at times, my 89 year old dad had trouble hearing across the table until the large party of young men sitting behind us left. Then the whole noise level was actually much better for all of us, and dad could hear all! We will definitely go back. The chicken is absolutely dreamy! And I ordered it at the recommendation of our server. Everyone else’s pastas were also crazy great! Our server gave everyone at the table great recommendations in response to our questions. He was very attentive to meet all our needs, he even gladly took a few photos of our group which was a bonus and finally served with a huge smile and great personality. Every experience starts with the server and he set us off on a great foot and was so on task throughout the whole experience. I hope you can figure out who he is from my comments and give him some praise and our thanks!
Solid across the board. The kindness of the staff enhances the experience of the decor and delicious food.
Too limited lunch menu
Always awesome service, food, and wine. Don’t skip the cacio e pepe! Vincent is awesome!!
Went for Valentine’s Day with the lady, was amazing as usual
The waiter took our order never returned. It was almost an hour between appetizer and entree. We needed to call the floor manager to serve us.
Just overall pleasant atmosphere and great food
Dining at Maialino is always a pleasant, relaxing experience in an authentic Roman setting with professional, well trained service and a creative menu prepared with quality ingredients that is always delicious.
Wait staff was very accommodating but service for drinks was somewhat slow
Food is excellent
Bartender a little glum but it was Sunday morning 😊
Simply Wonderful! The food, service and ambience are always fabulous at this Danny Meyer's treasure.
Great food, but service is getting worse. I have eaten here before but until this past weekend, never had a problem. If based on service alone, I would not return. I support the no-tipping policy however I can't help but think that it leads to much worse service.
The special pasta for that evening was flavorless and lukewarm. The Maialino pig was tough, dry, flavorless and also not even warm. Neither of us liked the wines recommended by our waiter after telling him what style of wine we liked. Over all a poor dining experience.
Maialino never disappoints. We were there last Saturday for a friends brunch get together. Among the afternoon’s delights were the eggs carbonara, a super thinly sliced porchetta sandwich and the cacio e pepe eggs. For sharing, do yourself a favor and order the ricotta pancakes, super yummy. Staff is lovely and the wines more so. A great afternoon that won’t soon be forgotten!
Wonderful selection of dishes to choose from. beautifully prepared and presented.
Attentive, knowledgeable service.
As with all Danny Meyer restaurants, the experience is reliably excellent.
While busy, the tables are well spaced and and the room does not feel overly crowded.
The new "no tipping" policy is much appreciated -
I was disappointed by the experience. Service was terribly slow, so we had to call the waiter over several times. I thought my appetizer was unevenly seasoned, but my main was great. I was hoping for a better experience.
The food was incredibly delicious and the service was impeccable!
The gild is off the lily at Maialino. Our favorite spaghetti carbonara was served luke warm and full of actual fat with no meat - not their usual Guanciale. As a fairly knowledgeable wine person who has been to Italy more than 20 times - I found the wine list more than challenging with very few basic Italians of any color or shape. And the no tipping policy seems to have failed. Wait staff "wandering" around and eager to help; but a different person had to be summoned each time - so no continuity. Needs a shake up.
Expensive everyday dining; an upscale Le Pain Quotidien. We had attentive service; ordered the Mixed Greens and the Polpo, both of which were very good. With our entrees, we ordered a side of the Funghi Trifolati. I know the server heard the order, as he confirmed we didn’t want that dish with our 1st courses. When it wasn’t served with our entrees (decent pasta dishes), we believed it would come out imminently. By the time our waiter came back to follow up, we were over halfway finished, and we told him that if he’d not ordered the mushrooms to forget about it. He said nothing, and the next time we saw him was when he brought them out after we’d finished, with our flatware on our plates. Not until we said “no” did he acknowledge we didn’t want it.
Everything tasted salty, there was a large bundle of hair in my fruit salad with hardly an apology, service was uninspired
