Danny Meyer’s Gramercy Park Roman Italian restaurant is better than we initially thought, especially for a date or an upscale brunch.

I am a fan of all things Grammercy, all things Danny Meyer, and all things Roman - so this was the perfect spot for a Sunday pre-theatre brunch and it did not disappoint. Delicious coffee, delicious croissants, and delicious entrees!

Was delicious but we had to wait thirty min for a table and I feel they should have thrown in something for our table to enjoy, but they didn’t. Very nice relaxed setting. Actually reminds me a lot of an upscale
Restaurant in Rome I went to with my parents once upon a time.

I love anything Danny Meyer does. I'm afraid though that the restaurant was not on their game .
The waiter was very nice but the food took forever, one of us got the wrong meal but kept it just so we could eat, 2 out of 4 of our meals weren't hot ...very off...

We were very disappointed. Although the food was still good, the service was awful. It took forever for anyone to attend to us once we were seated. The only shining star was the wine stewart, who actually brought us menus and took our cocktail and wine order. Also, I think he nudged the waiter to pay some attention to us. As someone else wrote, this is not the Danny Meyers we are used to. What ever happend to his carefully trained staff. At one point, a waiter was teaching a busboy how to set a table!!!!!!!! VERY, VERY DISAPPOINTING!!! It'll be a while before we go back.

Service was sluggish. When I arrived, there were several people near the hostess stand who had already checked in but were waiting to be seated — even though the restaurant was half empty. I was there for a business meeting, but they seated us between two tables with loud children. It took a long time for the waiter to take our order. One of the servers dropped a side dish on our table, causing a mess. When the replacement dish was brought out a while later, it was too hot. Toward the end of the meal, the waiter tried to pick up a plate from which my companion was still eating. Then the check came too soon.

This is not the Maialino I know and love. Service is slipping. The overall experience was more annoying than satisfying.

Love this restaurant & its service included menu. Very welcoming staff . My meal was great burrata with warm figs, finocchiona, and spaghetti all a carbonara - my husbands entree was less so - cacciucco. He felt it wasn't the authentic fish stew. Desserts sublime. We had a very noisy neighboring table of 6 that marred the experience

Maialino continues to deliver consistent quality meals. Everything is cooked to perfection. The fish is always perfectly prepared. You must try the pasta; fantastic. End the meal with Italian Wedding Cookies; baked on the premises.

We went to Maialino for a 40th birthday celebration.

When we arrived, our table wasn't ready. We waited for nearly 30 minutes only to be seated at literally the worst table in the house. We chose to wait even longer for a better table. That's on us, but it was a special occasion and we figured that we'd already been waiting. What's another 10 minutes?!

When we sat down, we asked to see a sommelier because we knew we wanted a special bottle of wine. While we waited for the wine, we order our meal with the server. It was her first day, and while we were patient and understanding about that, the service was VERY slow.

The wine came and it was amazing. A truly special bottle of Carema from 1969. It came at a price for sure, but it was worth it. We practically finished our bottle of wine and the food never came! By the time we got our pasta it was cold and had clearly been sitting in the window for a while before getting to us. We waited for several minutes before eating but our server was nowhere to be found. We were starving, and it was already nearly 10:45 at this point, so we just started eating the cold pasta anyway. When she finally appeared, we explained that we were really unhappy, but we had to start eating. She was kind and understanding, and they did remove a few items from our check, but at that price point and having ordered a 200 dollar bottle of wine, we just wanted a simple pasta dish to be served hot.

All that said, I've always heard good things. I'm hoping to give it another try someday. Hopefully it will be better.

Haven't been to Maialino in a few years and was excited to go back with a group of friends. Unfortunately, The return trip was a letdown. Maialino is a non-tipping restaurant, and I wonder if that contributed to our experience. As a group, we ordered some starters, some pastas and a few secondi platters. The food was fine, but the wait between courses was unbearable. It was nearly an hour wait between our appetizers and our pasta course, and then almost another hour between our pastas and our secondi. During these long waits, our server did not check in on us, or offer more bread, and my husband had to flag him down several times to ask him to check on our food. When my pasta finally arrived, it was only lukewarm and got cold very quickly, which made it somewhat unpleasant to eat. The same was true for my main course. We had been looking forward to dessert, but were worried about another long wait time. And when our main dishes were cleared, our waiter was nowhere in sight. After scanning the restaurant for him, we flagged him down and hurriedly gave him our dessert orders seconds after he gave us the dessert menus. We didn't want him to leave the table and disappear again. I felt bad for the couple at our table who were paying a babysitter by the hour to watch their daughter. For a simple meal, we were there for over three hours - It could have easily been an hour shorter. Needless to say we were all exhausted afterwards.

Given this is a Danny Meyer restaurant, the service was really surprisingly bad. We waited considerable time for our reservation (someone did come over and apologize and offer olives but couldn't seem to help get the bartender to serve us) and then our waiter was first too present and then disappeared. Our first course took forever to come out and again, no one bothered to say "sorry" or to explain why. More than 10 times, we had to decline various people pouring more wine until we finally moved the wine to the back of the table so they couldn't try anymore. Our pasta course was also remarkably slow in following the first course.
Love the idea of no tipping but...in this case, the included tip seemed to result in sloppy, thoughtless service. Fortunately, we have been to this restaurant numerous times before so will likely return and hope for a better experience next time.

Oh boy — service was terrible. The delays between ordering and the appetizer, the appetizer and main course, main course and desert and and desert and coffee were excruciating. No wonder this restaurant included tip into the price of food — otherwise there might be no tip. The food was okay — I actually thought my chicken was undercooked. The soup was way too salty. Not great at all.

We haven’t eaten at Maialino for quite a while and now I am reminded of why.
We sat for an hour before our dinner arrived. Our waiter was fine but he said the kitchen was behind & brought us some delicious olives & prosciutto which was a nice gesture even though I don’t eat meat.
We brought a dear friend from London and unfortunately the noise level made conversation difficult.
As much as I admire Danny Meyer and enjoy most of his restaurants, I will cross this one of my list.

re my prix fixe lunch:
appetizer: octopus-delicious sauce, very small portion
main: roast pork and pasta-delicious sauce, but otherwise average.
dessert: tiramisu-AVOID! very small portion of only mascarpone w/chocolate shavings.
FF INGREDIENTS WERE MISSING: cake , coffee or espresso, liquor. Ummm, in my experience THIS IS NOT tiramisu.

friend's dessert... 2 large scoops of sorbet-very tasty.

Lovely restaurant, appreciated the service and ambience and the no tipping policy. However, if the meal I had is indicative of the food quality and portion size, AND food that is better than average is important to your dining experience, I suggest other menu choices or better yet, another establishment.
