What Insiders Are Saying
Danny Meyer’s Gramercy Park Roman Italian restaurant is better than we initially thought, especially for a date or an upscale brunch.
Wonderful service, gracious and personable staff, noise level at the wine bar (where we were sitting) was lot loud at all, and comfortable (since the stools had backs that the bar did not). Food was terrific. Sommeliers were helpful and informative.
The food is great, the service is dismissive and an obstacle to enjoy the food. The tip is included and not earned.
First brunch at Maialino, had been many times before for dinner... really nice to sit in such nice space and eat so well. The ricotta pancakes were awesome... cross between a pancake and a custard. The pastries, eggs and piek and everything else hit the mark too
Not good at all. Reservation was for a late lunch, 2:30 pm. We got there 15 minutes late and the hostess was really rude. They sat us and offered a short menu even though there were more than 15 tables still being waited. The first waiter, John, really rude also with this uptight attitude. We stayed just because we were hungry but I will trash talk about this place every time I can.
Service was a but slow, and the server seemed a but overworked - but otherwise the atmosphere was quite nice and the food was good.
Always great to be back. This place rocks. Great wine. Great food. Great service. And who doesn’t like the service included pricing. It take the stress away. That is what customer service should be.
This is a quiet, comfortable dining room with excellent pasta dishes and a nice wine list. The service is inconsistent, however, and didn't meet my expectations. Examples: the food runner had no idea where the plates belonged; while we were dining, a staff person stocked shelves with wine bottles directly next to our table; that same person studiously ignored us when we were trying to get our bill. Looks to me like USHG has not gotten the kinks out of tip included pricing.
Thank you so much for the hospitality. Fiona gave us superb service. Thank you to Amadee and Mary and the kitchen for the generosity. Can’t want to come back!
The food was fantastic. We went with our server’s recommendations and could not have been more satisfied. I’ve already been recommending to others!!
The food was largely inedible. The staff was comically uncoordinated; it was impossible to know who was waiting on us (at those times when anyone was in fact paying attention; mostly it felt as if we were just passing through the restaurant without anyone aware we were there). No one said anything when our picked-over plates went back to the kitchen. Say what you will about tipping, but maybe this experiment needs tweaking.
We have returned to Maialino every time we have been in NYC over the past few years. The food is classical Northern Italian, prepared perfectly. The quality remains consistently outstanding. Every dish, even if it sounds simple, is just superbly done. Personally, I rather like the fact that service is included in the menu price. It has not hurt the quality of service at all. We'll eat there again the next time we are in NYC.
Nice vibe and location with good Italian food. Over-priced when it comes to the food however.
So many of my other favorite places have closed. This is now my #1 favorite. It is lovely. An oasis downtown.
Mother’s Day brunch was lovely!
Food was very good- wish not as much heavily fried like the veges and soft shell crab
Otherwise loved it!
Maialino is the perfect place to meet friends and enjoy a great ambiance, wonderful service, delightful Italian trattoria fare. You can actually hear yourself talk, and you never feel rushed. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner in the Gramercy Park Hotel. Remember to always reserve a table, and to call again 24 hours before the date to confirm, as there’s always a waiting list, just in case a table frees up at the last minute.
I recommend the prix fixe lunch at $48, that offers three courses, varied selections generously proportioned, including a light dessert.
Eccellente in tutto..ottima atmosfera e tempi giusti..cibo eccellente e di porzioni abbondanti..da consigliare sicuramente.grazie
Went on a double date with another couple and it was beyond amazing. Best pasta ever ! No occasion needed !!!
Food was incredible. Service was amazing. Highly recommend!
Maialino never fails to satisfy! Brunch with girl friends is fantastic. The right ambiance for the catch up, the perfect food to feast on and a very warm and accommodating service.
Brunch is really good! The cacio and Pepe eggs are insane!
That pasta was hard, had many matriciana and chili pasta that carbonara i had much pepper.
We had to return a bottle of wine to be bitter.
Our evening at Maialino was very good quality and I would highly recommend this restaurant to foodies and those who like good atmosphere. The decor is beautiful, most tables face the beautiful Gramercy park trees, which is rare in NYC. The tables are casually decorated, like a Roman trattoria. The food arrived promptly. There are many pasta dishes with pork in it, so you gotta like pork ingredients to enjoy most of them. The appetizers were fine. The seabass dish was excepttionally tasty, with a lemon zest, and lots of veggies. The rhubart tart was the best I've had...delicious deserts in general. Tiramisu was light and airy as well. Must order desert. No tipping policy is interesting...Try this place and you will most likely enjoy it.
My wife and I have dined at Maialino perhaps a dozen times over quite a few years, and never before experienced below-standard service. When we arrived recently for lunch with a guest, there was no one at the reception desk or in sight for several minutes and no explanation when someone did appear. After being seated, offered water and handed menus, we didn't see our waiter for 15 minutes. We mentioned this to a supervisor passing by and said we'd like to at least order drinks. Our waiter appeared a few minutes later, with no mention of the delay. This level of service is far below what we've come to expect at any Danny Meyer restaurant. It has caused me to wonder if it has anything to do with the "service charge included" policy instituted a couple of years ago. I would hope not.
Service was very professional and efficient but not especially personal. To their credit, one of our party was served the wrong entree and his meal was completely comped.
We dined here a few years ago and loved it. Wow has everything gone downhill since ! Pasta should have been the star of the show, yet there was so little pork (in the pork sausage) the flavor was barely discernible. The $48 glass of red wine was light with no finish. Service alternated between surly and disinterested. The only highlight was the cheerful hostess - everything else paled in comparison. Won’t return.
The food and especially the service was poor.
A friend made the rec and We were very disappointed.
Getting into the restaurant was not very easy .
Was not worth the 192 dollars at all.
the waiter was very nice and available for general discussion, I appreciated this.
In general: I never felt people beeing stressed, even I guess they are...
Very disappointing meal- sent back the main dish. The management however were understanding and accepted our comments.
Our reservation was 30 minutes late and the hostess was not friendly or helpful.
Went for my birthday. Excellent
Cavotelli and duck was excellent. Char and octpus appy was very good as well.
Good way too salty
We went with some friends, they gave us the table with 30 minutes of late.
The pasta was too cooked, and 32 dollars for a Fettucine alla Bolognese absolutely overcooked is a rubbery.
Consistently delicious. Wish wines by glass had some more reasonable choices. Suckling pig moist flavorful and amazing crackling!!!
Always excellent - our “go to” restaurant whenever we are in the Union Square/Gramercy part of town. Riggatoni w duck sauce is delicious as were the chicken liver, frito misto and fungi appetizers. Excellent waitstaff: knowledgeable and professional service. Especially pleased they were able to accommodate a special request as one of us has a hearing disability. One of the five best Italian restaurants in NYC when it first opened and continues to be after all these years.
truly the best Roman restaurant outside of Rome! Spacious environment, friendly and professional staff, and food that makes you wonder if you are in Italy. Always feels like I am dining at a friend or family member's house. Best cacio e pepe in NY and great wine selection that does not break the bank. The eggs cacio e pepe are heaven.
Outstanding food and service in a very attractive setting bordering on Gramercy Park. Brunch was incredibly delicious and well worth the extra $.
