Maialino is a non-tipping restaurant. Hospitality Included.
What Insiders Are Saying
Danny Meyer’s Gramercy Park Roman Italian restaurant is better than we initially thought, especially for a date or an upscale brunch.
Simply amazing. From beginning to end, we had a great experience. I’d have to say that our experience was only made better by our waiter, Jeff. He was super knowledgeable, attentive (but not annoying!), and made sure we had a great time. Would definitely go again and recommend to friends.
Do yourself a favor and order the mushrooms! Hands down the best mushrooms I’ve ever had.
Excellent value for quality of food and service.
Will dine again soon
Great time was just very cold inside while eating.
Food was fantastic as always
Lovely setting that elevates the experience into something far nicer & more enjoyable than the usual loud crowded weekend brunch
I don't know how many years it's been now, but Mailino continues to impress. It has become our family's go-to place for celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. The service is just the fight mix of knowledgeable, friendly, and never over-fussy. And, of course, the food almost never disappoints.
Unbelievable food, great waitress.
Excellent food and service. We were happy to pay higher prices instead of tipping. Good for Danny Meyer.
Danny Meyer never disappoints! We felt like we were in Italy, the menu was full of Italian classics and with a party of five diners we all shared our dishes-everything was fantastic! The hospitality is unmatched and something that always draws me to any of his restaurants.
Food, service and ambiance was w
Customer service was very average. I had made a note that we are celebrating a special occasion but there was a wait for the table inspite of reservation and the service was slow, server barely spoke to us. Didn’t really feel very welcomed to the restaurant.
Food was delayed because of a private event, pasta was amazing but we waited for 30 mins for ricotta pancakes that didn’t even taste that great, too eggy! My 6 year old was really disappointed after waiting for pancakes for so long. not sure I would go back.
always a great place for brunch.
delicious food and great ambiance.
Great atmosphere with excellent food and a very attentive staff. Menu options are creative and very tasty.
We were highly anticipating a meal at a nice restaurant to celebrate with out of town friends and were very disappointed in the service we received at Maialina. Our waiter rushed us to order when we sat down, didn’t take the table drink orders from every guest and then poured wine for table guests that didn’t want wine.
Our waiter then completely ignored us. We had empty wine/ drink glasses most of the meal. He seemed very distracted. He dropped off dessert menus and then completely disappeared. This was for a BIRTHDAY celebration dinner, which was noted in the reservation! When we finally asked to order dessert, he seemed annoyed and mis-delivered our desserts and dessert drinks.
Food was good...but service was very bad.
I guess the “gratuity included” policy does not motivate the wait staff to do a good job.
So disappointed in this experience.
This is my favorite breakfast in NYC. The food is fresh, healthy, delicious and the location / set up is also easy for business meetings.
Drew made us feel so special. My fiancé and I were meeting up with another couple we hadn't seen in a year- and both couples had become engaged in the meantime. We were discussing plans to attend each other's weddings, etc. He really made our meal an event, gave us plenty of time to enjoy our courses... everything was lovely.
The food was perfect from the bread to the desserts (I loved the burger more than most), but the good feelings were tops.
Amaizing place, nice food, beautiful people, perfect drinks
Went to the city for a couple days to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday. We chose Maialino for his official birthday dinner after reading good reviews. We were not disappointed. Best Mozzarella we’ve had outside of Italy, which is hard to do. Great meal, good cocktails. The restaurant itself was a little noisier than I anticipated, but not too loud for the occasion. Not in the city as often as I’d like, but would go again in a heartbeat.
The service was impeccable and the food was as correct as you would get in the best restaurants in Italy. We had a wonderful experience and will certainly be back!
Maialino is overall fantastic! Every dish, the service and experience are fabulous. I highly recommend the suckling pig!
Outstanding! From the ambience to the service ...we had a wonderful time !
Great experience!!!! Great food!!! Have been several times and always really good!!!!
Always a delight. Delicious food, lovely atmosphere, solicitous friendly servers. And I love that hospitality is included (no tipping).
The octopus appetizer was amazing!
Went for brunch. Everything we ate was delicious especially the basket of croissants and muffins!!
Worst pasta I’ve had in any New York restaurant. Lousy, lazy service.
Beautiful restaurant (especially in the back); excellent service; generous portions. More than I wanted to eat.
The service here is excellent! The staff welcome you well and serve attentively. I was a little disappointed in the pasta dish I ordered. I've it had in the past and it was much more fresh and delicious. This one seemed a little dry. But overall, I love Danny Meyer's spots and Maialino is one of my favs.
Will come again soon!
The food, service and ambiance are superb. This is among my top 3 favorite restaurants in NYC. This last visit was especially wonderful as someone painfully pushed a metal bar into my heel. I was in agony. The receptionist who seated me asked me if I"d like an ice pack and brought me one which kept the injury from swelling. So thoughtful!
This place never ceases to please in every way.
Excellent food though still too meat-centric. Fish portions were small and good, not amazing. Squid ink pasta was outstanding salads were excellent. Wine great.
Great food, great service. Really looking forward to coming back.
Best staff, best food, best atmosphere. I love everything about Maialino!
Our server was not warm or engaged and barely present we had to request him several time.
Most importantly I had called the restaurant before our reservation two separate time regarding a birthday candle with our pastry order. The pastries came out without a birthday candle.
I expected better hospitality from a Danny Meyer restaurant.
Service was great
One meal was great
The other just OK
Drinks were very goid
Second review of Maialino because it's absolutely outstanding. Get another on the menu with the suckling pig and thank me later.
Great food! Great wine! Great Service! I liked the "tip included" aspect of the experience. The service was not lacking due the tip being already included in the meal.
Just delightful. A kid at the next table was a bummer and a little noisy, but the food and service top notch!!
We are from California and always trust Danny Meyers’ restaurants. Mailiano was a bit of a disappointment, though. The ambiance was very nice, as was the hostess, but we were dismayed after that. The noise level was so high and seating so close, that we had to shout to each other and overheard much of our neighbors’ conversation. The menu was limited; there was a Roman influence, but still relatively boring menu. I got the Char and it was o.k. The drinks were interesting but small and ridiculously expensive even with the tip included ($18). My husband got the pasta carbonara, and he was nonplussed by it, too. It was very similar to 2 other pasta dishes on the menu, too.
Not much direction or attention from our server, but it was busy.
All in all, I would not return.
Love this place but this time round I wasn’t as impressed. The food was good but not as good as past experiences.
The service was poor I felt. The waiter had 0 personality but you can get over that, he wasn’t very efficient, left us sitting waiting at least 4 times and came across looks he didn’t want to be there. Will be back for the atmosphere and food but my wife and I both left feeling a little underwhelmed, especially for a 350 dollar price tag. USC is streets ahead.
Best pasta in NYC, embrace the pushing the envelope with testarella, trippa and squid ink pasta. As all DM restaurants fantastic and accommodating service.
The food is reliably very good, quite authentic or in the Roman style. Dishes are made with top ingredients and executed well. The room is pleasant, open, and strikes just the right balance of comfortable and proper.
