What Insiders Are Saying
Danny Meyer’s Gramercy Park Roman Italian restaurant is better than we initially thought, especially for a date or an upscale brunch.
Very bitter coffee, and had to ask for refills to keep it hot...I had the frittata-completely tasteless...server was nice...probably will not return. I gave “overall” 3 stars because two of the 5 people were happy with their choice.
The food here is delicious, carefully prepared and presented. I'd eat here once a week, but feel like a glutton.
Awesome as always!
Staff was great...we arrived early for our reservation on a busy night but waite staff found us a spot to park and order drinks until our table was ready. Food was amazing, esp the roasted pork!
Beautiful restaurant. Delicious food. Excellent drinks. A bit loud - but that’s par for the course in nyc.
This is another charming spot by Danny Meyer. The food was wonderful and the serving portions were perfect - not too small or large. I love the design - the acoustic design is excellent. There is still the backdrop of a bustling restaurant, but it is easy to have a clear conversation with your party without having to raise your voice.
the meal was delicious and served at a relaxed pace, which made for a very lovely experience. The service was also memorable.
Bridesmaid dress shopping
Horrible table with people passing behind us the whole time. My husband legs didn’t fit under the cramped table. He was very uncomfortable And couldn’t stretch his legs out. . The waitress was very nice but brand new and knew nothing about the menu. She couldn’t tell me one thing about the wines by the glass or anything on the menu. The burrata was sub par. Came with the bread that comes on the table, absolutely nothing special. The pasta was ok. Some of the bucatini pieces were hard and uncooked with a crunch. The linguini with clams in pasta were also undercooked, which left a fishy taste in my mouth. This was my second time at this restaurant and I was hoping it would be better than the first but it was worse. Also very loud and crowded. I should mention the women’s bathroom was a mess, with toilet paper strewn on the floor. The men’s bathroom was out of order and very annoying for my husband who had to go in the hotel and wait on a huge line to go to the bathroom. Will not be back to this restaurant.
Went with my 10 year old granddon
Maialino is on my must-visit list each and every time I am in Gramercy. The olive oil muffins alone are worth a trip but this time I brought my mom for her a first-in-30-years visit to NYC for the holidays. The staff and service are impeccable; so helpful and attentive while never making the ambiance 'stuffy'. Thank you for a wonderful meal, relaxing visit and making her feel so at ease during her big weekend in the big city!
This is now my “go-to” brunch venue.
1st wedding anniversary
We were celebrating a birthday. They confirmed the spelling of the name but never did anything to recognize or acknowledge the occasion which is unusual for this restaurant. Portions were super tiny for the expense. That being said, we are regular customers here and love it.
Wonderful food, great service! Recommend Maialino highly to those that would like a Italian dinner.
Came into city for a special occasion. Incredibly disappointed - esp with food. WAY TOO SALTY. We have never sent back an appetizer but the pasta was inedible. My husband’ chicken was also incredibly salty. Such a disappointment.
My friend and I spent 3 hours at dinner. It was a totally terrific experience. What a mature New York restaurant should be.
When a waiter tells you they have a special dish for two people, I strongly suggest asking him/her whether the two people are NFL linesmen or pipsqueaks like myself and wife. On this evening the special in question was suckling pig for two. The sommelier suggested a wine which proved to be an excellent match. The dish was cooked perfectly with potatoes but far too much for the two of us. However they did a great job of packaging the leftovers which we ate the next day for lunch.
Even better than I remembered it when we lived around the corner. Started with great antipasti, then a delicious pasta with pork ragu, topped with a fluffy ethereal tiramisu. Really well trained and friendly staff. Can’t wait for next visit!
Fantastic food and wine. Our server did an excellent job of recommending wines to go with our food.
Food was superb
Great warm table service
Glassware was improved automatically once we ordered an excellent but pricey wine
Front of house service was bizarrely distracted and cold -as if we were interrupting their conversation.
Great service! I had the Negroni Speziato which is fantastic, then the octopus was also amazing. For dessert we had tiramisu, another highlight of the meal.
We went for a Sunday dinner, the restaurant was quite busy.
Maialino was amazing. We really enjoyed our meal. It was great because pastas were in Primi size, so we could order 7 pastas to share among us four girls. Dessert was fantastic. The spiced donuts were superb paired with the gelato. One big complaint is the draft. We got seated at a SUPER drafty table, and our food got cold within 5 mins. The worst is, I had to wear my beanie, jacket and scarf throughout the whole meal.... The server did offer me a complimentary hot drink, but only after I asked if she could do something about the draft/move us to another table (she did see me in my attire throughout the meal though...). Overall, it was amazing, would definitely go back (with the right table!).
The appetizer was so salty it burned. We mentioned it to the server. When the entrees were brought they were placed in front of each guest with the comment “low salt halibut” “low salt pasta” etc. And the entrees ... too salty! Again mentioned it to the server who explained that different chefs prepare things differently. To top it off, the tiramisu, although tasty was just a plate of mush. Next time I would opt for a different chef at a different restaurant!
We love coming to Maialino. We never feel rushed. Service is always excellent but it’s also the great food that has brought us back so many times .
Started with Fettuccine alla Bolognese and Cacio e Pepe, both were very good. Followed with Spigola (salt-baked Sea Bass for two) and roasted carrots. The Sea Bass melted in your mouth-outstanding. Good wine list as well. We will return.....
Very attentive service and an overall excellent meal. There wasn’t a crumb left on anyone’s plate. Thanks, Team Maialino!
Must do Italian! Just did lunch with the family. Spectacular burrata as well as an exquisite fig bucatini amatriciana with guanciale, tonarelli cacio e pepe & maltagliati with suckling pig....all top notch. My son has the porchetta panini and we finished with a chocolate almond sundae was outstanding! Of course espressos & hot chocolate on a cold day hit the spot too. Also, it’s a no tip establishment so the price includes gratuities. Enjoy!
Great Italian food. Very goid service. Excelent coffee
Incredible food, wine and service
I have also written a review on TripAdvisor. This was truly one of the most outstanding restaurants I have ever eaten at - and I live in SF. The no-tipping policy to me did not create an issue, as I am fairly certain the amount we paid was what I expected to pay if the restaurant did normal tipping. The service was impeccable and the food completely delectable! If you are anywhere near Gramercy Park - stop on by - you won't be disappointed
Great food. Great service
As usual, Maialino delivers consistent delicious food. The service is always top rate. The wine list is strong, particularly Italians. Everything made fresh on the premises. Must order the Malfatti and the trout when in season. A+
Food very good, server responsive, and ambiance fun, but service slow (presume this was the kitchen as restaurant was full), and noise level quite high for conversation.
Great pasta dishes, I would go back. Only drag was we ordered two appetizer portions and one entree size and our waiter brought them all out at the same time.
Good food but clumsy wait service.
This is one of my favorite venues. Delicious food, outstanding service and always a new surprise on the menu. Beautiful atmosphere and great vibe
Another wonderful meal served by the kindest. Most accomodating staff in New York. I can't wait to return.
We've been here many times now and we expect we'll back many more times.
This is a must, don’t miss out
