What Insiders Are Saying
Danny Meyer’s Gramercy Park Roman Italian restaurant is better than we initially thought, especially for a date or an upscale brunch.
This was our third visit - first brunch! The food never disappoints. Loved the house pastries - especially the yummy croissant with cinnamon. The Frittata Bianca with butternut squash was a perfect combination - a little salad to be healthy, egg whites for my waistline, but sweet butternut squash so it felt decadent and different. Cacio pepe dishes also good. The Bloody Marys are spicy so watch out!
Awesome dining experience. The food quality and rich flavor combinations exceeded our expectations, which were very high to begin with. Pasta was perfectly al dente. Service was excellent, although it was a bit slow to get started. The somm Cory took lots of time with us to find the perfect bottle of wine from their extensive (and exclusively) Italian wine list. Very energetic atmosphere. All tables and the bar were still packed when we left after 11pm. I will absolutely be back when in NYC again!
Again Maialino delivers expertly prepared Northern Italian cuisine. Pasta is made fresh on the premises as are the deserts. When there must order the Malfatti! Service is warm and professional. High grades for this gem.
Very nice place!
Good food and fun environment.
Definitely to try if you are in the city!
Excellent - as ever. We had a great booth, excellent service and amazing food as always! Many thanks
Food is exceptional but know the portions are very large, especially entree size pastas!
In general, very nice food and service. It is expensive, though, even for NYC standards
Food and ambiance was excellent as per usual, but service was lacking...my friend did not receive a side dish, which ruined her main dish. They were apologetic though.
Great lunch with outstanding service. The pre-fix is a steal given the prince along with quality of the food, service and ambiance. Looking forward to experience dinner during my next NYC adventure .
Love this local Gramercy gem! The spicy squid ink pasta is a standout and the wine list is incredible! Only frustrating part was that they cancelled my reservation because I couldn't answer the phone during a meeting to confirm it. Otherwise, fantastic experience and the Rose Bar is a great spot for a drink before or after!
Food and service were excellent. Pasta dishes were outstanding. Took a long time to be seated. Service at the bar was superb.
Good enough- but I’ve had better food there. I feel it’s slipping a bit. Sadly.
Great service. Great space. Decent food, but nothing memorable.
Awesome, as always! Love this place.
The food, the service, the ambiance, everything impeccable!
Mailalino is (has become?) the sort of place you wish did everything just a little better. It's an expensive restaurant, so you understandably expect excellence. But you generally never get it on any of the stuff that matters: service is aloof, the food is OK, and the overall experience is underwhelming.
This is great for breakfast business meetings and makes for a pleasant dining experience with great service and food offerings.
The carbonara is terrible, salty, greasy, the pancetta chunks completely at odds with the texture of the soft scrambled eggs. The Malfatti was just okay. The vinegar flavor was too pronounced and the suckling pig was a bit tough. Pasta was perfectly al dente though.
Really disappointed with the service. I work in hospitality and understand demands of a busy service but this was really I excusable. Especially with gratuity added to price. Think Danny Meyer miscalculated on this model being effective. There is no incentive for the server to go above and beyond.
The food is always fantastic quality and cooked to perfection. The fact they pay their staff well and its a non-tipping restaurant makes you feel good about eating there - service is better than the majority of places.
My husband and I have loved eating and celebrating here for a long time now! Find a reason to celebrate and go to Maialino! :)
Had dinner there tonight at 7. The food, as always, was fine. The service was poor. Took us 30 minutes to get our drinks. The entree was not served until after 8:30. Table cleared at 9. Didn’t stay for coffee and dessert. Lots of help. The problem seems to be in the kitchen.
Had a wonderful birthday lunch here. Staff was attentive, food was wonderful... I especially liked the burrata cheese appetizer and the suckling pig pasta was delicious!
Food was outstanding. Service was not up to the typical Danny Meyer standard. Slow kitchen and inattentive wait staff. We have dined here previously and would probably return, but this visit felt too expensive when considering overall experience.
Very enjoyable. Excellent cuisine. Great food odors meet you as soon as you walk in and you won’t be disappointed.
One of my favorite restaurants for a special occasion and/or family/friends visits. I took my mom for her anniversary, and food/ ambience impressed her. More importantly our server surprised us both with adorable pig cookies!
Cacio e pepe scrambled eggs and ricotta pancakes are a very popular combination for brunch! Banana bread was a great size for sharing. Service was excellent, food was great, beautiful location. Would recommend to anyone.
Everything is excellent
Great experience and the food was wonderful. The wait staff was very knowledgeable and helpful in the selection of wine and cocktails. Will definitely go back!
Maialino is always a favorite when we are in the city. Thank you for another fabulous experience!
My girlfriend and I celebrated our 3 year anniversary and it was definitely the perfect place to celebrate. The server told us about the truffles they just got in and we splurged and got it shaved over a to die for tortelli. 4 words. Brown butter, squash, hazelnuts. Everything seemed to be better than the last and she and I were beyond satisfied. We both work for the company but I highly doubt that’s what made them be hospitable and go above and beyond. Thank you for making it a night to remember!!
Visited Maialino this week for dinner, and while the food was delicious, I will not be rushing back. The service was terrible, and for a Friday night at a Danny Meyer restaurant I expect better. I was seated next to a waiter's station, and I overheard a somm bad talking a table that was inquiring about the barolo selection being promoted in the bar area. That's just not acceptable in my book, and if it weren't a no tipping restaurant my gratuity would have reflected it. The squid ink pasta with crab was delicious, though not anything mind-blowing. Disappointing experience in general.
Lovely ambiance. Good food. Excellent service. Very accommodating.
Prices but not tipping.
Always outstanding! Maialino, on a Five Star scale, rates Ten Stars.
Best Cacio e Pepe and Carbonara hands down, amazing wine selection, polite and dedicated staff.
Amazing, delicious food.
Went for my husbands birthday. The food was good and the service was okay.
Food took over an hour to arrive from when we placed order. Table next to us sat down 10-15 mins after us but was served 10 minutes before us. I had to take my entire main course meal to go and leave my daughter - who’s birthday it was - to eat her meal by herself.
Overall the restaurant visit fell far below our expectations and actually what was not the same experience that told us by others.
Let’s start with the good things: nice atmosphere, great vine list (BUT a lot of vintage reds from Piedmont or Tuscany were not reasonably priced and just too high), food choice was nice, our service guy himself did an excellent job!
The negatives: our 3 course dinner took more than 3 hours (!), between primi and secondi we had too wait almost 60 Min! Despite our servant, the overall service crew was totally understaffed and thus they created some chaotic atmosphere in the restaurant. As main course my chicken diabolo was partially raw, a no-go for a quality restaurant. Thus, even though we made the best out of it and had a fun night the restaurant experience itself was disappointing.
I was very impressed. The food was incredible -- both the pasta course and the secondi.
The appetizers was great, we had muzzarela and italian ham. But as main course,
We had a Carbonara and Caio e Pepe that were very very salty...and I love salt but was really much above regular levels. My friend said the same, before I mentiined anything...
