About Mahe - Dana Point
Mahe in Dana Point, CA is a popular location for diners in Orange County. The eatery offers up a range of food on the menu. The look of the restaurant is upscale, but it remains a very casual and fun place to dine. Live entertainment is available on certain days of the week.
Mahe has some great options on the menu. Some of the starters you can enjoy include the coconut shrimp, ahi poke stacks, shishito peppers, tataki wraps and asparagus fries. Try some of the different sushi rolls that are available, too. The burgers, chicken, filets and rib eye at Mahe should help to satisfy even hearty appetites.

Mahe - Dana Point Ratings and Reviews
I took my wife here for her 40th birthday through a referral and boy I am so glad I did. From the appetizers and main course to the ambiance and service this is by far one of the best places I have ever eaten. Brad even went out of his way to give my wife the royal treatment and provide an amazing dessert. I will definitely be coming back!
I made a reservation online for 6:45.
When we arrived we were told that we couldn't eat inside, outside only (irritating). I did question it but they were not willing to accommodate me. If I would have known that we would have gone a different night. I am very sensitive to the outdoor heaters (it was cold and raining outside). I saw 2 inside open tables from my seat that only filled up right before we left.
The food was good and our waitress was very good and nice.
We went as a family to this restaurant for the first time. We weren't very impressed with the ambiance nor the food. Everything was OK, but not outstanding. The service was the same. I'm not sure I would visit this place again nor recommend it. There are much better Sushi restaurants down the street in Laguna Beach that make the trip well worth it.
We went to Mahe to celebrate a birthday. The hostess sat us promptly inside but we quickly requested to move outside (it such a nice night to eat outdoors). There were heaters to keep the temp perfect. The waiter was prompt and not pushing us to hurry. As for the food we recommend the main dishes over sushi rolls. I had ahi tuna and my spouse had the fish special and both were excellent. My daughter had the sushi roll which was good but not as good as ours! The bar area inside looked fun and the happy hour prices are reasonable. We will definitely go back again!
I was disappointed that when I made the reservation for teppan, it was actually not for teppan. It was a birthday dinner for my 13 yr old son. We normally go to Benihana but this was much closer. We ended up getting sat right away but it was extremely busy and the food was just okay. Make sure to call and request teppan if that's what you desire. Would be nice if they had that option online.
This was a pleasant and welcome surprise. We had a last minute chance to meet a friend from out of town who was staying at the Ritz. Ritz restaurants were way too costly for our tastes and this was a simple Yelp find. WOW!
Staff was great, food was excellent and we enjoyed everything served us immensely. Creative and fun dishes with wonderful twists. Bar was a bit noisy but Thursday nite football may have been the reason. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. This is a "don't miss" and worth more than a single visit. We will definitely return and we live in San Diego!
Having gone to Mahe in Seal Beach years ago, we were excited to try out the new Dana Point location. Probably not the best dinner spot for 6 p.m. as there were a lot of families with small children and babies. Well behaved, but not the dining environment we were looking for . . . appetizer was 5 Star delicious Ahi Poke, dinner was 1 star with the veggies having WAY too much Garlic (and I love garlic) and my piece of Mahi Mahi was inedible as I don't care for fish with over 1/2 being the dark meat blood line. . . my husband had Salmon that was great, rice and again, his veggies had way too much garlic. May try it again, but NOT on a Saturday night!!!
We sat at the sushi bar, and had sashimi and sushi rolls. We also had a waiter for providing drinks and plates. My husband had eaten here before and was impressed with the sushi. It was good, but not as tasty as I expected it to be. The sashimi was fresh, but the sushi rolls were a little bland. The sushi bar was quiet, but there was a din coming from other parts of the restaurant.
Loved the variety of the menu, from sushi to steak, and great location. There was live music playing Sunday night and the place was not too busy. The staff may have been missing some folks as our server was a little frantic being the only one for our section, and seemed to be training a new person. But they worked hard and got our food out (if not all at once, was a bit scattered...)
Visited again last evening and food was as good as ever. Enjoyed everything. Service was off a little, they seemed a little confused and disorganized. Also got there in plenty of time to get an order in for happy hour and the bartenders were all too busy with a few cute women until a minute after the cut-off. It was all computer monitored, so we were out of luck. Definitely disappointed about them playing that game on good customers.
My sister and I took our mom to Mahe for her 80th birthday celebration. We sat in the back patio area which created the perfect ambiance for the celebration. The waiter was amazing. He totally took care of my mom, making sure the room temperature was perfect and taking photos. Food was excellent. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for special occasions.
We were looking for sushi/seafood and because of the ratings decided on Mahe. We sat outside, the sushi was delicious and they had a musical group playing Hawaiian music. People were dancing on the pavement and everyone was having a good time. We would definitely return to this restaurant.
We have eaten here a few times and it is one of our local favorites now. The emphasis of the menu is on fish and sushi/rolls, but they offer a wider range than that. I ordered the steak last time and it was cooked exactly as I asked for. Veggies were all fresh, the ambiance was nice, and the service was just frequent enough.
Overall, we had a very fun time and the food was good! The rocking shrimp tasted good, but we would have liked it to be more crispy. If they served it on a platter instead of a bowl with the sauce on the side vs. over the shrimp, I think it would stay crispy. Regarding the service, our waiter was very attentive so the good rating vs. very good was not due to him. We have eaten here before and the food takes a while to get out, and because it comes from different chefs (i.e. the kitchen vs. sushi chefs), it doesnt't always come out in a synchronized manner and one person at the table can be left without an entree for a while, when everyone else has gotten theirs. If something could be done to improve upon this, it would be great.
I wanted to share w/ you my recent dining experience at Mahe’s Dana Point Location… It was just last night, (August 24th) and I had made a Table Reservation through Open Table. My reservation was for 7:00pm straight-up, and I had arrived w/ my date just a couple of minutes after 7:00pm and we were seated right away at a very nice table, no problem… Our Waiter took Extremely good care of us throughout the evening, and we had an excellent dining experience there at your establishment !
My date was indeed a First-Timer at Mahe’s, and she was very impressed with everything… She had the Steak & Lobster, & I had the Steak & King Crab Legs. Our Steaks were Cooked to Perfection to our liking, and our drinks were good too. Everything from start t
We had a party of 10 and all agree we would not go back to Mahe. We ordered 6-7 sushi appetizers and they all tasted the same. While the servers were very nice, the service was terrible. We had dishes spilled on us, we had to ask over and over again for items, and one of our meals didn't even make it to the table. It was served in a To-Go box after the rest of us had finished eating. There's no ambiance to speak of. While located in Dana Point Harbor, the location of this restaurant is far from the marina and for all you know, you could be anywhere. Maybe we were just there on an off night, but we would not recommend this restaurant. For a great meal in Dana Point, try Harbor Grill instead.
