Maha Ratings and Reviews
It is an all-round experience starting with the discrete entrance into an dusky subterranean den. Excellent service from attentive staff and a great choice of drinks. The degustation menu is simply stunning. The swordfish and olives are so flavoursome. The slow cooked lamb melts in your mouth. The hommus is smooth as silk and delicious. The whole experience ticks all boxes for exceptional food at a reasonable price and excellence in customer service. We recommend this restaurant to all our friends.
Service was excellent, pace of the meal was just right. food was amazing and just the right amount to allow you to eat everythimh and not feel you had had too much!!
We had followed Shane Delia's cooking show on TV and the food definitely lived up to our expectations!
A wonderful 2.5 hour lunch
Situated in a lane way that gives no real hint of anything much in it, Maha is downstairs behind a simple sign, very subtle, very understated, and VERY Melbourne.
We sat in a booth with candles lit around us, having arrived for dinner and were offered drinks and cocktails to start, as well as choosing sparkling or still water. We selected sparkling water for the evening and from that moment onwards our water glasses were refilled the entire night.
We had a selection of 2, 4, 5 and 6 course meal to choose from and we selected the four course option.
The 2 and 4 course were to "share", were as the 5 and 6 were individual portions.
The first course, that fresh warm hummus, so light, and flavourful.. I'm still drooling just thinking about it as I write this, was only one of the many dishes that came out just for the first course.
We ate everything that came out, the food was incredible, the service impeccable, the only dish that was largely untouched was our slow cooked lamb (on the 3rd course).. everyone at the table considered it a bit meh. Outside of this dish every other was empty.
Maha has a great reputation for a great reason, this was my first time going, but it won't be my last.. that hummus is beckoning.
We are very familiar with the style and what to expect here, (fabulous ineresting food, not usually formulaic, however the over selling of additional courses, cocktails, drinks etc was so overwhelming as to DIScourage us to even leave a tip.
Understand the pressure. However, in trying to flog us an extra course up front, at least have the courtesy to tell us "how much" in the same breath. This was the disappointing part of our meal with our of towners. In this case on Sunday Dec 11th it was I think Scallops. Sounded delicious!! Were they complimntary? were they charged for, and if so, how much??? jeez, unbeliveably bad PR and hospitality. I wouldnt go back on the basis of this experience. Good luck.
Second visit to Maha and it was enjoyable. I didn't enjoy it as much as the first time as I found the food a little bit mainstream compared to the first time i visited. In saying that the food was delicious and i enjoyed every mouthful. The textures and flavours utilised certainly does take you on a culinary journey. The service was all class. Some of the best of any restaurant i have been to. Once again a class meal with a great ambience and wonderful service. If you haven't been here......GO!
The meal & service was exceptional nothing was too much trouble the staff really new what was on the menu and every dish was described in detail. I would have no trouble in reccomending this Restaurant to anyone who wants to excite their palet with delight. My Daughter introduced us to this Restaurant & absolutely raved about it. Our only regret is that it took us so long to actually go & book in to realize that all her claims were true
Went for an anniversary dinner. Great experience - the service is impeccable, nice ambiance and not too dark, food was very good.
Do plan for at least a 3hr dinner. We didn't overly take our time but the process of this fine dining experience meant dinner was quite a drawn out endeavour. Which if you are prepared it, is a very enjoyable night.
