“At Magpie, we are more committed than ever to our mission of celebrating what makes our city and region special, and contributing to it by making seasonal, farm-to-table food in Sacramento.”

Made a reservation at 4:30p, but they had recently changed their hours to open at 5p. Owner Janel was gracious enough to let me in while staff was setting up for service. Behind the bar, Carmen immediately took my drink order and told me the specials of the day. Had the Wolf Ranch Quail which was incredible. Fantastic service and meal. Highly recommended.
Very good eats at this place. One thing they could improve is the selection of wine by glass, limited to only one red and white. Contrast that with a number of draft beers available. Otherwise, a good spot to go.
Trying to make good choices for the new year so the scallop special with cauliflower purée and romanesco sounded good. Can’t believe I paid $34 for less than an appetizer! 3 scallops which were heavily salted, maybe a tablespoon of purée, and 4 tiny pieces of romanesco. My drink-Breezy-was good. Daughter just got the cream brûlée which was nothing special for $9.
Lots of great restaurants in Sac but not planning to return to Magpies.
Went to Magpie’s for a business dinner. Made a last minute reservation for a Friday night. Was seated promptly and got helpful advise on parking from the hostess. Ordered crab and avocado salad which was delicious. Had salmon and squash which was equally good. Although wine menu is very limited, the restaurant had opened a couple of off menu choices which were nice additions. I had the Barolo. Overall a great experience. I would definitely go back for business or with my family and friends.
Excellent menu choices to share in a nice atmosphere.
This is our most favorite place to eat in Sacramento!
Great place for drinks and appetizers. Dinner prices quite high. Children’s options consisted of only grilled cheese or pasta with cheese. Good for couples though
Lovely New Year’s Day brunch. Food and drinks were perfect.
Took my girlfriend here for dinner and we loved it.
Nice choices on the menu including either breakfast or lunch. Food delightfully served and delicious.
We have been eating at Magpie since it opened. The quality of food, service and ambiance has remained as good as the day it opened! For vegans, vegetarians, pescatarians, omnivores, not to mention wine drinkers, it does not get any better. The meaning of farm to fork is very real at Magpie!
This is becoming one of our favorite spots. The has never disappointed and the service is always good, BUT our waiter Kyle (I hope I spelled his name right) was over the top great. Thank you Kyle your service was even better then the food and the food was GREAT!!!
Great presentation of very good food. Great menu and very fresh. Really enjoyed my first time there.
Great location and atmosphere with creative healthy cuisine. Fantastic for networking and meeting friends.
Love this cozy, farm-to-fork restaurant. While the menu may not be as broad as other restaurants, the food is filling, and the presentation is a simple work of art. Be prepared to look for parking, but that's typical of a midtown restaurant.
This place continues to be one of my favorite restaurants in Sac. Duck gnocchi was to die for, and the salad and pork belly appetizers we got were also amazing. Well priced for the quality, taste and portions. The one shortcoming was that the bar got quite backed up and my friend’s second drink didn’t arrive until we were basically paying the bill (30 mins later) and we had to leave for another engagement, but they were able to take it back and remove it from the check which we appreciated. We will be back!
This was our first time at Magpie Cafe and it was wonderful. It was hard to choose a dish. Every dish that passed our table for someone else was so tempting. I decided on the hamburger and I was not disappointed. It was amazing! I will go back to try some other dishes!
Amazingly good food! Every dish was special. Maybe the best burger ever.
Great food and service!
My favorite restaurant in Sacramento.
Our server was wonderful. Portions generous, but some highs and lows on the dish preparations. Overall a very nice experience and we will surely be back.
Food and service were both top notch. Far exceeding our expectations. It was our first time there and we will definitely be back!
We've been going to Magpie for years now and have watched it slowly decline. Used to be some of the best food in Sacramento but seems to be struggling a bit to maintain the consistency it used to have in terms of food, selections, and service. Hope it makes a comeback because it really used to be great.
Waitress was very nice. Burger was okay, could’ve used more flavor. Fries seemed overcooked and chewy. Blueberry mint soda was good. Mimosa was alright, very small amount. Overall an okay experience, would maybe return and order something different.
Magpie never disappoints.
There are real chefs here, cooking fresh food—including vegetables!—with a menu that offers variety for any taste. Even a lunch standby like a BLT is special: thick-cut bacon cooked to order, oven roasted tomatoes in the winter and heirloom tomatoes in the summer, watercress instead of soggy lettuce, and caper aioli, all served on a good baguette. French fries or a generous salad on the side.
And service is warm and friendly, whether you are a regular or first-timer.
The food at Magpie is always outstanding. Must have the house made ice cream sandwich. Flavors change with the seasons and they are always delicious!
Such. Great. Food.
My Birthday at the Cafe was delightful all around.
My only disappointment with the menu was limited gluten free. I misunderstood a menu item description and the server made no effort whatsoever to accommodate. When I say server, it appeared to be someone from the kitchen who served our food and was not helpful at all.
Great Location, Great Food, Great Staff. A weekend gem.
We had a large group for brunch, many places don't take reservations, so it was nice to be able to use Open Table and make a reservation on-line for 10 people. The food was delicious, there was something for everyone, including the picky eaters. The savory bread pudding is to die for. Service was great, prompt and friendly.
The waitresses were nice but forgot about us for a bit, left our drinks sitting on the bar for a while. The Bloody Mary's had one wrinkled up green in each while online I could see they have more veggies. My diet soda was flat. My crab and avacado salad was flavorless and had shell bits in it. A person in our party did not like the breakfast skillet saying the beans weren't good.
Superb in all respects: service, food, ambiance................,............,........,...............
The food was innovative and outstanding. The service was spot on.
We just relocated here from Chicago and magpie has become our “go to” place. I’m generally not one to order a burger when I go out to eat but I was in the mood for one and I can honestly say this was one of the best I’ve ever had. We also had the chicken -it’s designed to serve two but could easily have served three-also outstanding. The soup was also wonderful- almost like a salad of wonderful cooked veggies in a delicious broth . I’m all about simple food done well and magpie gets this completely. My compliments to the chefs for a job well done
Magpie never disappoints. The food is delicious, seasonal, and creative without being too fussy. Everything is always perfectly cooked. Save room for a cookie after your meal!
Good spot to find interesting and unusual food combinations and a very good wine list. by the glass. Service was outstanding. Will go back with some regularity.
We have been to Magpie several times but not to this new location. It was a lovely evening so when they asked if we like to sit in or out we chose to sit outside. The street is so busy I wouldn’t do that again.
The Fried Squash appetizer, pork belly small plate and Beet panzanella salad were terrific. I had the Clams and Fries. Great flavor but the dish was not hot. The other entree was their salmon offering which was very bizarre. The salmon was cooked nicely but is divided into small pieces. This is the description from the menu: PAN ROASTED ORA KING SALMON, SUGAR SNAP PEAS, ENGLISH PEAS, AVOCADO, PICKLES, SHEEP YOGURT CREMA, HERBS. It was simply weird. Avocado and pickles didn’t work in this dish. This was the main reason along with the lukewarm clam broth I gave it a four star rating.
A great lunch! The food was generous, healthy, and delicious. The service was attentive and friendly without being intrusive.
Food was outstanding, sat at the bar, talked with staff and fellow patrons. Excellent cocktail menu and overall relaxing place with a great vibe.
My husband and I celebrated are wedding anniversary for dinner and we had such an incredible experience. It was easy to change our time reservation, our server was so nice, and the food was excellent. I’d highly recommend it and if I lived in the area I’d go many more times!
