Service was great, my dish was not good, sausage chicken benedict, my date’s omelette was ok.
Great food from start to finish. Cocktails were really good as well
My husband and I came here for a date night. The seating was cramped, and I’m a small person. The ambiance was good. The noise level was louder than I hoped, but we could still hold a conversation. The service was a little slow and our particular server was curt and non-engaging (probably because he had too many tables).
All that being said, I will definitely go back because the rockfish was, hands down, THE BEST prepared seafood dish I have ever had. And it wasn’t just the fish. The sides (blackened carrots and a polenta cake?) and sauce were unique and packed with flavor too. The Cajun crab dip was also delicious and unique.
So overall, I highly recommend this restaurant, especially if you’re a foodie!
I went at 10:30 on a Saturday and was greeted with very prompt service. Without a doubt, the best eggs benedict I’ve ever had. An amazing brunch place I would recommend to everyone despite being a little on the expensive side.
Food was ok but nothing spectacular for the price. Overall just average.
We had such a relaxing experience at Magnolias celebrating my husband’s birthday. The food and service was impeccable. We loved our fried pickles, shrimp and grits, corn bread, bread pudding, and cocktails! We can’t wait to go back!
A perfect spot for a romantic dinner. Started with Deviled Eggs and moved on to Blackened Seafood Pasta. The food was incredible, and the service was great. I will definitely return.
What a great find in Old Town. The duck confit with dumplings was amazing!
I rarely write reviews on OpenTable, but our experience at Magnolias was so good, I decided I needed to share
This restaurant has been open for several years but we’d never been, just overlooked it. Decided to give it a try with another couple & were quite pleased. The setting is lovely AND, noise level was minimal, yay!
We dined upstairs, tables were nicely spaced, the bar area is upstairs, but no noise from it
Our food was delicious, definitely Southern flare & spices, generous portions
This overlooked restaurant be be on our permanent list!
Not a lot of different or exciting brunch options, but what was there was done well. Manager was delightful and ambiance was perfect, I just wish something had been done to spice up the simpler offerings.
Brunch, everything was delicious and fantastic!
This place is small but has a great ambiance. The fans on the ceiling shaped like magnolias are too cute. Their eggs Benedict’s is amazing—especially the fried chicken one. Brunch here is fun and decadent. The service is friendly.
For brunch, first the orange juice was served with a (dirty) metal straw with Bloody Mary spice and food obstruction (gross), dry scrambled eggs, biscuits (only reason to come?) were charred on the bottom a good quarter of an inch and served anyway. Eggs cold on cold plates. Watery coffee. You can skip this place for brunch. Dozens of superior options in a five block radius.
Another incredible evening... great cocktails... food amazing
Sitting by for ... so romantic
Amazing food and very friendly service!
Very enjoyable dinner experience. If the menu suits your tastes, then this is a nice dining choice.
Last minute brunch decision, and we weren’t disappointed. Good food. Very fresh. Outstanding service.
Lovely little place. Food is excellent. Very driendly service and a diligent manager. Would definitely recommend it.
Enjoyed our brunch at Magnolias on King. It felt like a more refined version of good meal in a friends home. The vibe was cozy and the service was friendly. I especially enjoyed my fried chicken and biscuits with honey butter. We will come back.
Enjoyed this restaurant very much. I had the stuffed figs and the short rib stroganoff! Excellent the sauce was creamy and filling the noddles tender and the beef was perfection! Then for dessert I had a simple hot fudge sundae! The only thing I had that wasn't my favorite was my drink - the Bees Knees (gin, lavender, and honey) - the lavender was too much for me. The waitress took it back and got me something else!
One of my most memorable restaurant outings :). Everything was excellent from the food to the staff. The restaurant was uniquely beautiful and perfect for a quiet date. Will definitely recommend and we will be back!
I eat a very restricted diet due to autoimmune disease so my partner and I had only been out to eat a couple times in the last year or so. We wanted to go out to dinner for Valentine’s Day so I was calling around town. When I called Magnolia’s I was put in touch with Craig, the chef, via phone and then email. He was very helpful and said he didn’t want me to feel limited and he would figure something out that I could eat. Magnolia’s was very accommodating and Craig was sweet enough to help me. The food was delicious. We will definitely go back again.
The staff at Magnolia’s is exceptional. We were running 45 minutes late. The manager called and offered to push back our reservation. We got there 30 minutes before closing but the staff continued to be exceedingly accommodating. We ordered the fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits, duck confit, and the vegetarian entree. We loved the cheesy grits and the fried green tomatoes.
Food was fabulous. You must try the cornbread!!
First visit and will be back. Sat by the fire in second floor and had wonderful cocktails appetizers and our meal. Service was outstanding, atmosphere perfect and food delicious. Stuffed dates are a must!
Great food; great atmosphere.
The bloody marys we ordered did not taste good, and we felt rushed to leave.
Service was great! Food was great. This place gets noisy.
Excellent southern cuisine, in the heart of old town Alexandria. Nice quaint spot on long street and beautiful interior.
This restaurant was absolutely amazing. What an experience!! The ambience was extremely charming, the ladies in charge were delightful and kind and welcoming, the kitchen staff came out just to see if we enjoyed our food which was amazing in itself. The executive chef Craig made some amazing dishes for us. Every time I am in town I will visit this restaurant.
Very lovely cozy setting. Brought my girlfriend here for her birthday. It was our first time visiting. The staff were all very welcoming and the food was delicious! Highly recommend the deviled eggs and the shrimp and grits. Absolutely must try!
Great food, service is friendly and professional, the atmosphere and ambience is fine dining a great date spot or just brunch with friends
Absolutely the best food in old town!!My only complaint is the noise level with babies. It would be nice if it was not so family friendly.
Even though I had a reservation they changed my table after I was seated and asked me to say in a table against a wall; I’m glad I asked for another table that was available. They took a long time to come to the table and we needed to place the order immediately. Server needed to be ask to bring refills and condiments to the table. The price for restaurant week was not worth it; less expensive when is not a restaurant week. Food was okay; not a big deal. Big possibility that I will try another place instead of this one.
The server was amazing the ambiance was amazing but food was bland and just not my preference. I'm from the south so when i order pan seared salmon and dirty rice i expect real flavorful dirty rice not bland rice and fresh vegetables and and my salmon to be seasoned. Everything was was so bland and barely seasoned. I heard the brunch is better but i would never come here for dinner again
We went to Magnolias on King during restaurant week. I was with a group of foodies- and everyone loved their choices. The bartender knew his stuff and the noise level was great. We could talk with no problem. We probably were the problem as we we laughed a lot. The staff was lovely.
Restaurant week.. our second time and last yrs was much better . Don’t know if they change chefs or management but it seemed cheaper .. we go here all the time so we know the plate size and quality and it was there . Desserts were the low point . We both took one bite .. if you are gonna participate in restaurant week. Don’t sacrifice quality
Emily was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The hostess was also extremely helpful. We will be back!
This was a second outing at this establishment, having had a good first experience. However, this second attempt was very disappointing. It was restaurant week and unlike some restaurants which may allow a diner to order from either the prix-fixe $35.00 menu value or the regular menu, this restaurant was only serving from the price-five menu while the deviled eggs and carb dip were good, the dates were disappointing and definitely not as good as those served at Bottle Stop in Occoquan, VA. Two people in our party had the strip steak and it was tough and a tad grisly. One Oder which was medium rare cane out medium. The dark chocolate bread pudding was dry. This restaurant would be best served by adapting the bread pudding with pecan, bourbon sauce found on Epicurious or something similar. In fact, try the white chocolate bread pudding from Mikes American Grill. U fortunately, some members of our party won’t be back.
I really enjoyed it. My average cup of coffee was 3-4 dollars. The food was great. I recommend the souther chicken Benedict.
