We will definitely return...and soon!! Had such a wonderful experience we are niw considering hosting a larger event.
My friends (one local the others from out of town ) age range 23 to 60+ loved it first time for them all wanted to come back we ate everything on our plates !
Ran out of filet on Steak night.
Overall it’s a great place. I had the pork chop with sweet potatoes and greens. The greens were fantastic, as were the sweet potatoes. The pork chop was good, but the sides definitely stole the show. I would go again and I certainly would recommend it. Also, the service is second to none.
We love “half-price whiskey flight” Wednesdays!! As always, the appetizers were delicious (deviled eggs had a new twist with a pickled okra on top with the usual bacon garnish; the candied bacon-wrapped dates are an absolute must-try). I had the best meatloaf in Old Town. The service was also great (thanks Bridgette!)
the atmosphere was a nice until a large group came in and was quite noisy.
I thought it was connected to Magnolia of Charleston, SC. I did not find the menu listings plentiful or favorable. I could barely eat a few bites of my meal. It was not good.
Mother's Day Brunch. Terrible! Only reason I gave two stars was my daughter said the short ribs were ok. I had eggs Benedict with maybe a teaspoonful of hollandaise on each egg, and what little was there had no flavor whatsoever. The dish also had pimento cheese under the eggs which was not mentioned on the menu. Yuk! I am not a fan of pimento cheese. My breakfast potatoes were undercooked. My husband had a simple selection of bacon, eggs, and potatoes. No toast was even offered. My daughter asked for a side of collard greens since they were listed as part of a shrimp and grits entree. She was told that they had not prepared any collards that day and that the item was a typo on the menu. Service was really bad too. Hostess and waitress acted as if they wanted to be someplace else. Had to ask for water to be refilled twice. Also, even though we had made reservations weeks ago, we had to wait, and then they seated us in the back corner with my husband facing the back wall. Was our first and last time there!
We came her for Mother's Day brunch having previously been here for dinner...we loved the bacon wrapped dates! However this experience was not as wonderful..the menu was limited and the service was off step, it was not busy. Will try again for dinner..
Goldilocks' Bloody Mary - perfecto! Brunch menu had several really tempting choices and, while I enjoyed the frittata dish with novel grits (though the egg was ever so slightly overcooked), I really lusted after my companion's generous and handsome Magnolia's Breakfast. (It was reportedly very tasteful, too!)
We enjoyed brunch very much. The selections were more than adequate and the execution was very good. We especially enjoyed the bacon wrapped figs - delicious! The service was exceptional considering that they were short staffed. We will definitely return.
Our waiter was also the Bartender. African American dude with short dreads. He was AMAZING. Food was pretty awesome!
Really a fantastic and cozy restaurant right on King Street. The food was outstanding and the service was exceptional. The owner was on site and made some great recommendations- the bacon covered dates were amazing!!! We really enjoyed our experience at Magnolia on King.
Our server was fantastic. Food is very, very good. Good wine list.
This was our first visit to Magnolias. We went there for brunch hoping to enjoy its southern-inspired menu. Although we had a reservation, we had to wait almost 15 minutes to be seated even though there were plenty of open tables. When we were finally seated, we were informed that there were a number of menu items that were not available (they had run out), including chicken, biscuits and home fries. That was disappointing, but there were still a number of good options available on the menu. I enjoyed the frittata in purgatory. It appeared that they were short staffed that Sunday because there were long waits for simple requests like water, silverware and condiments. Our server was very nice and apologetic and assured us that our experience was not there norm and asked us to give them another chance. I will.
Food was very good and service was good except for my having to wave down a server to get my coffee refilled. But there is no good excuse for running out of a nonspecisl brunch item (chicken biscuits and gavy) at 12:15.
This place was good, but service was not amazing. We had to wait a while for a seat even though we had reservations and there was available seating, because the hostess was nowhere to be found. We didn’t get water until we had been sitting for 15 minutes. After that things went pretty smoothly and the food was good. Overall, I would say it was an ok experience and I would be willing to give it another try.
Food was absolutely amazing! Nice southern decor as well. Definitely recommend for special and romantic occasions
Slow service. Food too spicy (without warning). No bread available, even to purchase. Biggest complaint: very, very loud, terrible acoustics.
The food was wonderful and the servers very kind but the food was slow to come out. We waited for about 30 minutes between appetisers and our main course. Our dessert also took awhile and in the end we packed it up to go.
Food was great. Restaurant was a bit rundown for the price point. Service was a little lax, but friendly.
Outstanding service, great food and wine, as well as a quaint yet classy atmosphere.
Great service and food. I would definitely return!
Such a disappointment! This was our second visit; our first was 2 years ago and the service, food and ambiance of the Palm Lounge have gone down significantly since then. The service was poor and food was meh!
The server was unwilling to substitute a side that contained bacon, which I don’t eat. The shrimp was made with bay seasoning...ok, but I would have expected more. Brussel sprouts were okay, but $7 extra. Not really worth it.
Brunch was good.
Easter brunch was disappointing. Special menu was below expectations. My wife and I had Sunday brunch here three weeks before and enjoyed wonderfully creative meals, so we were excited for Easter.
Menu shortened to an unfortunate shadow of the normal brunch menu. Restaurant was near empty, yet service was slooooow... Entrees were super-spiced (even the collard greens) and impossible to eat. Our side dish was forgotten in kitchen. The organ or dessert send like a high school tray selection...
What a disappointment for an establishment touting southern cooking
What a disappointing change from our first experience...
First time visiting the restaurant after it received recommendations for where to have brunch in Old Town from local publications. Excellent food, service, ambiance...the 2nd level is the place to be with the bar, furnishings, colors and the fireplace!
Bland / Burnt Food & Mediocre Service. Will Not Return & Would Not Recommend!
We another good meal at Magnolia's on King. We booked our table several weeks in advance, for fear it would be packed on Easter. We were not aware that they would have a limited Easter Menu, despite checking frequently. That was a bit of a bummer.
All that said, the we had good food, (try the dates if you want something that has texture and loads of flavor), and a great time. We could have a conversation without shouting, that is always a plus.
If stairs are a problem, ensure you ask for a table on the ground floor.
Easter brunch was very disappointing, especially since we ordered breakfast items which tend to be the easiest to prepare. It’s hard to ruin poached eggs and omelettes but they did. The service started out wonderfully but about 10 or 15 minutes into our seating a couple that our waitress knew came in and sat at a nearby table. Unfortunately our waitress spent all her time talking to them and ignoring us. With empty water glasses and empty coffee cups we had to remind the waitress we were still waiting for the dessert menus she forgot to bring us. I won’t go back. If a restaurant is expensive but good, OK. But if it’s expensive and bad with a wait staff that ignores paying customers I’m going somewhere else.
Lovely restaurant. The decor is traditional and comfortable, not exceptional, but very pleasant and not noisy upstairs where we were. The shrimp and grits was excellent, with a great side of collard greens. The chicken was brined and moist and good taste but somewhat overcooked. The wine selection is very reasonably priced. And the server was attentive. A good place to go in Old Town.
Very cute. Great place for a girl talk
Had a reservation here for a Friday date night. Unfortunately our experience didn’t meet expectations and I let that ruin our date night. We were seated in the lovely Palm Lounge and the hostess informed us that our server would be the manager (at least that’s what we heard). I am incredulous that our server was indeed the manager. His service was quite frankly not up to snuff; business was slow and he couldn’t have seemed less interested in us. I had to flag him down a number of times. At one point I asked for more bread for our crab dip, and had to remind him twice. Our entrees had come out before we finally got that bread. Meanwhile he was busy chatting it up with the bartender and then the chef, at one point speaking audibly about something very disturbing that I will withhold out of respect for the restaurant. When our entrees came out, my partner’s pork chop was completely raw in the middle. Of course it was an orchestration to get this resolved and we didn’t so much as hear an apology. Drinks were good, food was alright, service was terrible. Regrettably our server’s name was not on the receipt, and he never introduced himself. I looked for a manager while leaving and there was not a soul to be found downstairs. Dinner took more than two hours thanks to the slow service, and I only wish I would’ve walked out sooner instead of giving him the benefit of the doubt.
Had a great time and food was delicious
Very charming ambience. Shrimp and grits are delicious as are the appetizer dates with blue cheese, a remarkable taste combination. Excellent mixed cocktails.
My friends and i had a reservation. We wanted a drink upstairs and did so. The bartender kept saying the kitchen was closing - we thought in jest since it was only 7:30. We had a couple drinks and headed downstairs when the hostess said the dining area was closed. Our only option was to eat upstairs so we left to find a restaurant that was fully open.
Good place, just not spectacular. For example, they ran out of the beer I ordered, after the first one I ordered. I only order two when out dining. The app Beets and Oranges, had no orange, no pistachios, or shallots. Beets and goat cheese were good, but not as advertised. And we never did see a sweet potato as advertised on the Sunday night special. Don't let that stop you, the place is good with energetic staff but I think management needs some incentive to do better.
We love this restaurant. Great food and attentive service. It was a bit noisy because it was Saturday night and one very loud talker but overall excellent choice. Would highly recommend.
That’s was a really great place for dinner, it was like going to two places in one location. The food was excellent, very nice and cozy lounge, the entire wait staff and bartenders were excellent! Even got a chance to meet the Chef Anthony, who promised more exciting entries on the upcoming menu.
