Great food and menu! Cute interior and decent service.
Nice food. Great service. Daughter is vegetarian and made adjustments for her.
When we were first seated the hostess put us right by a busy door. The patio had a few people but not crowded at all. We asked if we could have a table away from the door and the hostess gave us a bit of attitude, told us that most tables were reserved, but could sit "over there." We were there for about 1.5 hours ...and not one person sat at the so-called reserved tables. The service was slow, and the food was not presented well -- I had the stir-fried vegetable dish with rice and it looked like the vegetables were thrown into the bowl and the dish was very over-sauced. Not a great experience, and I would never go back.
Everything was great about this restaurant, except for the service. (Although it was rather loud, we didn't mind that part much). We really enjoyed all of our food and drinks. Good variety on the menu and everyone really enjoyed their food (party of 7, including kids). We got in on time for our reservation without waiting but then we waited A LOT for everything else and it seemed like our waitress was bothered when we asked for anything, which we had to also wait for her to check in. That being said, I'm sure we would go back and just hope for a much better experience or luck with the service.
Magnolia Kitchen is one of the best brunch spots in DC! I love the decor and the food was outstanding. The bottomless mimosas was a good deal and our server was very attentive.
Extremely noisy, so much do that I could not hear my dinner partner. Service was poor - I was almost done with my salad by the time I received oil and vinegar I had requested from THREE people. I think they were having an off night.
A charming place to get a bite to eat and spend time with family and friends. Staff were wonderful and welcoming. Definitely will return.
Slow service. We ordered 3 orders of wings and we got 1 first and then had to wait 10/15 minutes before the others came. My food was also cold by the time it got to me.. Food was ok but bland. Condiments were watered down. Nothing special.
We love sitting on the patio! The traffic is usually not too loud to even notice. The fig and prosciutto pizza and the spicy pork pizza are both amazing. We specifically go for there for these pizzas. We have also had the mozzarella appetizer and it is very tasty as well. Their website makes it very easy to make a reservation and they usually can save a patio spot for us if requested, within reason. Well worth the 35 minute metro ride in for us to enjoy this restaurant. Staff is always friendly and food is always tasty!
Great wait staff (June)
Great wine - rose and gamy
Came for a business luncheon - a bit noisy (music was a bit too loud), but it was recommended by our client, so we went with it. The food/service was great, and the overall experience was lovely.
Next time, we would love to meet the owners who have a good story in re opening the restaurant. We 3 had splendid service. I thoroughly enjoyed the deviled eggs and cold soup + bread.
LOVED THE OWNER AND STAFF! Made our evening! Yay to Vivian, Elvis and all!
We were seated immediately upon checking in for our reservation and that was the only timely thing that we experienced. Our server noted that it was his first night out of training and, being former servers ourselves, we were totally understanding when he seemed to struggle juggling at least 5 tables, both inside and out on the patio. His visits to our table were few and far between, but he remained delightful and pleasant the entire time. About 30-40 min after we ordered our dinner, he came back to inform us that he lost the paper he wrote our order down on and needed us to remind him what we ordered. We re-placed our order and then asked to see a manager to explain our situation in hopes of speeding up the order in the kitchen. While the manager did expedite our order and even took some drinks off our bill for the inconvenience, we are disappointed in the way it was handled and the apparent lack of preparation, support, and adequate training that management provided for our server. At no point after we received our food did we see the manager again, either at our table or assisting our server at other tables. While our server is at fault for losing our order, we firmly believe that management is not invested in setting their servers up for success (too many tables, inadequate training, etc), nor are they willing to lend a hand when things go awry.
Food was delicious and we received large portions. However, my husband and I both had some serious... tummy issues... after our meal. This was the cherry on top of a 2.5hr dinner experience that snowballed into a reason to post a review.
To our server: We know how hard it is to manage all of those tables with little training and we truly appreciate your kindness and ability to joke with us even after things went awry. It will get easier!
Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. Our food was good and we enjoyed our meal. I was visiting my children and I would go again when I visit again.
This was the third time in quick succession that I visited Magnolia. The first and second time were fantastic! Great food, attentive service and wonderful ambiance. This time though, one of my guests was served meat that had turned, his replacement meal too forever and we could never find our sever. I’m hoping my first two visits are the norm, but proceed with caution.
Terrible food. Be aware of the 20% tip they add in and don’t tell you about.
Still in my top 3 favorites in the Dupont area!
Food was great but was not the best service initially (no fault of the waiter just many people came in at the same time). We ordered everything right away and enjoyed the experience from there. The drinks and food came out very fast after we were able to order.
We typically order a bunch of starters to share amongst the two of us. Our favorites were “Not your average Mojito”, Tuna Tartare, Mac & Cheese, and the Fried Okra.
Our server was incredible, made the evening so enjoyable!
They gave us a dusty pitcher for our mimosas and we didn’t realize we were drinking dust particles til after we finished. Waiter only came to check on us once in a 2.5 hour period and it wasn’t very crowded
The food and atmosphere were great! It was a little too loud but the service was poor.
The restaurant space is really attractive, the ambiance is nice and the staff very friendly and pretty efficient but the food was inferior. The Brussels appetizer was over cooked and the main courses were all freezing and had to be sent back. My husbands food had clearly been cooked a while ago and was dry and chewy as well as cold. They were very willing to deliver new plates but they brought back the same fries that were just as cold. This didn’t feel like food from a professional kitchen but more like something a line cook would produce at Macdonalds. I wouldn’t return.
This is a pretty restaurant in a great location. It simply needs to be much better than it currently is. The food is borderline awful - incompetent preparation and terrible presentation. The service was friendly but also somewhat indifferent - it took forever to get a check when we were trying to leave.
As this place is so conveniently located for me, I would absolutely use it more often, especially with its nice patio, if only it were better but it isn't. I feel like others must have the same opinion because on Mother's Day at brunch when you could literally not get a reservation anywhere, they were wide open. There's a reason for that and now I am reminded what that reason is: it's just not that good.
Open feel, light, airy. Quiet if you go early. Very close to Q st (DuPont / red line) metro exit. Food is decent... Not extraordinary. Therefore somewhat overpriced but also priced similarly to other places.
Recommend their Happy Hour - but wish more options for food was on the list
Enjoyed dinner at an outside table on a Saturday evening. Good variety menu, and the flourless cake for dessert was a great ending.
Very cute airy medium sized restaurant. Loved the green walls and green lux couches. The vibe was great, lively and urban and friendly with the community table in the middle and the bar showing sports.
The food was southern style everything so I love that my eggs benedict was on a biscuit. The hollandaise sauce needed more acidity but everything else was delicious!
Our server was outstanding and the service was overall was great. The food was good my meal was below average and no one was else was impressed with their meal. The shining star were the waffles they had good flavor and texture. The chicken was over cooked and dry, and the omelette was just basic no real flavor.
Brunch spot on
The food was good but they have limited options. I love the location and the staff was friendly and good service
For a place that claims to be a brunch venue, I was shocked to discover that you didn't have standard black breakfast tea - like English Breakfast. There were only herbal teas and a perfumy Earl Grey. That is not acceptable.
I was also disappointed with my Eggs Benedict. What makes for an extraordinary Eggs Benedict is the hollandaise sauce, full-stop. It should be decadent - thick, creamy and served in abundance. What covered my eggs was none of these. it was drizzled on top of the egg but certainly not in a quantity that allowed me to mop up the biscuit. It also wasn't very good - I suspect the sauce had split as its consistency was by no means smooth and homogeneous.
Plesant location with friendly service. My compan ian had a chicken sandwich that he devoured. I had an average crab cake, it was cut too fine to have texture but the taste was good. The service got confused between two different servers. The prices was reasonable and sitting outside was very pleasant. The inside looked inviting as well.
The bread pudding is phenomenal, accompanied by a pistachio gelato which I didn’t expect to be such an amazing pairing! I don’t even like bread pudding!!
This was our 2nd visit and again we were very happy with the service and food!
The tuna tartare starter was pretty good, as were the Brussels Sprouts side dish but everything else was just average, and the service was, as well. Pretty indoor space and nice patio, though.
Ambiance was pretty. Food was nothing special and service was average. The hostess seemed to not be on the same page/angry at each other. Would not recommend it, as it was nothing special.
We sat on the patio and it was perfect. Inside the restaurant it’s very noisy.
Service was bad. Waitress took out order and basically ignored us (and everyone else in the place) for the rest of the time. Someone else dropped off the food while the waitress was clearly on her phone. It was a pain just attempting to ask her for more water.
Food was very bad and tasteless. I am sorry, but I am not coming back and I don’t think they will be around for too long if they don’t make changes.
Food was a bit boring and lackluster--Pizza was dry and uninteresting. Limited menu, I thought was more southern, was just the Meh usual--will not go back
