   Arrived for our Afternoon Tea at Magheramorne Estate to find the gates locked!! Advised via the intercom the property was closed that day!!!!! We had driven an hour to get there as this reservation was a birthday treat. Very disappointed so Open Table and Magheramorne need to sort out their bookings asap!!!

   My mother & her 4 sisters went for afternoon tea to celebrate her 85th birthday & were blown away with everything. 5 very happy sisters came away talking about when they could go back.

   Vegan choice extremely poor although advance dietary requirement had been submitted twice by phone. Non vegan plate was given and insisted was vegan, then it was taken away and actual vegan sandwiches were produced. Second course consisted of a small plate of biscuits! Was told this was all there would be when I questioned! Non vegan second course was very nice although service to obtain three portions took three attempts. So disappointed for experience for vegan guest, was told that there were no scones available and no cakes. As this was special occasion it was disappointing but was so relieved to get necessary portions didn’t want to complain any further and upset my party any more.

   The Captains Table event was amazing, food and service were excellent. I didn’t know what to expect, it surpassed my expectations. Highly recommend.

   We had a beautiful evening, food was delicious, staff were lovely, ambience perfect It’s only our perception however my husband and I preferred the easy listening music played in preference to the pianist We both agreed it had a “softer” background sound and it is our perception ( only) that the music played was much more appropriate to the romantic evening setting

   We felt variety / choice of food was limited, particularly savoury food. There was a sense that the waiting staff were under scrutiny. We had asked for our tea and coffee to be held until later in the afternoon, whilst we drank the flavoured water provided, but we were asked several times after that which we wanted. This was on the instruction of the lady who appeared to be in charge. The choice of cakes was strange, in that my mother and I both opted for Victoria sponge. Mine was the last piece from the previous cake, and was as expected - a small filling of buttercream and jam, the top dusted with icing sugar. My mother’s piece was from an untouched cake, but had a thick layer of fresh cream and jam in the middle, and another thick layer of fresh cream on top! Not a major issue, but we both expected the same thing! All in all, we had a pleasant afternoon in beautiful surroundings which had been the venue for my wedding in 1987 and that of my sisters in later years. Would we return for afternoon tea? Very unlikely. It was expensive at £35 per head and we felt that the staff were trying too hard when there was no need.

   I must say I was really disappointed. There was no xmas atmosphere hardly any decorations and the conservatory was quite cool. Not what I expected for a xmas afternoon tea. The tea itself was just basic. Desserts chocolate brownie and mince pie both of which I hate . I know they came around later with other cakes but it just wasn't what I was expecting as I have experienced other afternoon teas for less and much better quality. The only good thing was the staff were very attentive and pleasant. Would not recommend.

    Great ambiance, amazing food, great service and friendly staff. All round a very memorable and enjoyable night
