Maestro SVP Ratings and Reviews
Nice dinner overall. Richard started with the Calamari, which was very nice. Only issue was the batter fell off at times, but the flavor was good. I had the Clam Chowder, which was just right. Really hate the chowders these days that are like porridge. This one was chock full of clams. For mains, Richard had the Louisiana seafood, which was like a bouillabaisse. Lots of flavor. Could have used a few more other items besides the mussels, of which there was a ton. I had the Lobster Thermidore, which was excellent. My only complaint was the fact it was "barely" a pound Lobster & it cost me $68!! True, it was "market" price, but being in the food industry I know the Lobster prices lately. Geesh! Talk about highway robbery! My fault for not asking the price, but though the food was very good, it wasn't worth that price! Staff, however were a total delight & they run a tight ship there.
Second time eating here. Lively spot. Great oyster selection although a bit pricey at $5 per. Enjoyed the tresor du large oysters from Iles de la Madeleine (spelled incorrectly on the board, interestingly). Chipotle encrusted tuna was very flavorful and nicely presented but a bit sinewy. Overall very good.
We were very disappointed with the restaurant. First issue... just as we were about to order... we were advised that they had RUN OUT of mussels! This is the specialty of the restaurant... and exactly what we had planned to order. The main courses took a long time to arrive... and none of them were above average in quality or quantity. To top off the mediocre experience... there were FOUR separate birthday celebrations while we were trying to eat. Each time "Happy Birthday" blared over the loud-speakers... we had to stop our conversations and wait for the applause to stop before we could continue speaking.
There are so many good restaurants in Montreal. I see no reason to go to this one again.
As always some of the best and freshest seafood in the city. Well balanced and wide assortment of oysters from coast to coast. Coconutiest coconut shrimp around. haven't had a bad thing from the menu yet and I've been going for a while now. Relaxed but knowledgeable staff... a big yes!
I LOVE this restaurant! Fresh, fresh perfectly seasoned food. Everything has a BURST of flavor. The best Seafood restaurant I have been to in all of Canada AND the US!! The owner is a delight, pragmatic, dry sense of humor and we all loved her! I eat here every time I'm in Montreal and my siblings all want gift certificates from here for Christmas even though we live in Vermont!!
I felt judged as soon as I came in by the door. My friends and I are visiting Montreal and since I was a big oyster person, I convinced them to have dinner at this restaurant. I was ashamed for even suggesting to go there, everything felt like a push-over when we were dining. Not to mention , I was called for giving a 10% tip ONLY. As if I know that it is mandatory to give 17%.
We were in the mood for seafood, in particular mussels. This restaurant was located close to where we were staying so we made a reservation. It turned out that night was all you could eat mussels night. We both ended up eating two large bowls of wonderfully prepared mussels along with frites and a bottle of wine. Dinner was delicious, the atmosphere romantic, and the service was outstanding. Would highly recommend this restaurant.
