We are located in the heart of Hillcrest, near the bustling neighbourhoods of North Park, and University Heights and a stone's throw away from Downtown San Diego and Balboa Park.
Reservations are recommended. Please make sure to specify in your reservation if you wish to be seated at an Indoor Table, at our Chefs Counter or in our partially covered and heated Garden Patio. We will always try to accommodate your seating request as best as possible but please be aware that it will not always be possible to do so.
Everything was exceptional! The Pinsa was so good, we ordered a second one, just to have leftovers.
Excellent food and excellent staff. Definitely going back soon.
The pizza here is incredible! Probably one of the best pizzas that I have ever had. The staff was nice and helpful. The service was good. I highly recommend this restaurant, especially for the Roman style pizza! Amazing!
Wonderful owner! Fabulous wait staff and the most amazing delicious food. Great wine list. Outstanding actually. I brought my friends from NYC and they loved it, and my husband and I are italophiles who eat a lot of fantastic italian fare, but this was really amazing. Creative menu, clean, delicious ingredients and great taste, texture, etc. I highly recommend everything. Seriously. Brava!!!
This place has become my go to place when some says where do u want to go?
Mixed up our orders, meat tough and likely frozen, not a good experience
The dishes seemed authentically simple. The desserts were inventive and not your typical Italian desserts. A pleasant surprise.
Excellent food, and the staff was cordial, friendly, and attentive. Also, our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and wine selection with great explanations!
Fabulous, authentic Italian food with attentive, personalized service and, as always, a visit from the chef. This place is a jewel and deserves to be supported by all who appreciate Italian food as more than red sauce and California-style pizza.
Could not think of a better way to celebrate my birthday last night, than to have Chef Maestoso Marcook prepare his ten course tasting... The chef tasting is so good it’s too difficult to pick a favorite.
Food was very good, loved my fresh pasta with fondue sauce & a hint of dried orange peel. Different & very good. Husband & friends enjoyed their meals too. Restaurant is too loud so we moved to outside patio. Luckily it was a lovely evening.
Marco and his team are great! They were very welcoming and service outstanding. Great Italian food with a little twist to each dish. Definitely recommend having one of their pizzas. Light and airy dough with fresh toppings. In the appetizers, I recommend the octopus which was sliced so thin that it melted in your mouth. Also save rooms for dessert. We had a dish that was like lemon meringue pie with panna cotta inside. Will be back when in the area.
Had a later reservation but they got us in early. I had the Chef Sampler and my wife the Lamb Chops—both great with unique takes on Italian food. Really new tastes with good takes on some classics. Great service, nice outside ambiance, a little noisy because of street traffic. Chef came out to chat. Really had a good dinner.
Let’s start with Marco is amazing - thank you! We are really lucky to have this gem of a restaurant just down the street. Had a great experience with the taste 10 menu. Every dish was excellent and of great variety. Would highly recommend anyone to Maestoso - I know I will be back!
This was our second time at the restaurant. We came back for my husband’s birthday. It is simply fantastic! Maestoso is our new favorite restaurant in San Diego. Don’t miss it. The pizza is to die for and everything else is equally extraordinary. We were not as wild about the choice of desserts, but nothing is perfect. Though they come very close!
Yet another great Italian in SD. Nice that you don’t have to go to Little Italy. The chef puts a little Nouvelle Cuisine spin on some of the dishes; check out their ‘pizzas’ and the signature dessert. Waiter was fun, as was the dessert chef who came out to see us. Great wines by the glass.
My friend and I loved this restaurant! We sat at the counter watching the pizza and dessert get prepared. The pizza (flaky crust), pasta (aldente), and panna cotta (with passion fruit topping) all tasted so good! When we asked for truffles on our pizza, they gave us more than we would have expected. The chef and staff definitely made us feel welcome and checked on us a few times throughout the night. We loved the food so much, we went back the next night!
This was our second time at Maestoso’s. It was obvious from the time we were seated that things weren’t going smoothly. Not sure if it was a shortage of wait and/or kitchen staff. However, the food was excellent and, more importantly, everyone did their very best to make up for long wait time and ensure we were happy, including several apologies and complimentary drinks. It came across that they really cared about our experience. That goes a very long way with me. We will most definitely return!
Phenomenal-everything was good and the dessert really ended it on an even higher note.
The Risotto dishes were great. Outside tables are along University Avenue, so some street noise, but great for people watching, if you like that. Service was attentive, and we had a personal visit from the dessert chef, since she was delayed getting our order because of a large birthday celebration. Nice touch.
They only have a wine and beer license. So the cocktails were made with Sake, and didn’t have the usual punch of the real thing. Still tasty though. Value was a bit off for what we received.
Best Italian I've ever had. I haven't traveled to Italy but this is great food, chef is awesome and ambiance is great.
Had the best experience they made us feel welcome even though we definitely stayed a bit too long such a wonderful staff !!
This place is absolutely fantastic. My wife and I have been 5 or 6 times now and bring friends every time. Everyone loves it!
First time and food was very good. Would recommend.
Terrific food. Best Italian food I have had in San Diego. Oxtail was amazing
They just changed the menus and everything looks wonderful. My pasta dish was amazing and my new favorite.
This was one of our best dining experiences in San Diego in recent years. The recipes were done different: crusty eggplant pizza like we’d never had (after two lifetimes of pizza) the best seafood risotto I’ve eaten (it avoided the typical gluey sauce), and a perfectly roasted branzino. The wine choice was nice and the service impeccable. My husband and I genuinely can’t wait to go back!
For the first time, my friends and I dined at Maestoso on Monday evening August 12th. The waiter/front of house manager was as charming and welcoming as could be. The salad we shared was most interesting and pleasing and fresh. The pasta dish and pinza were delicious to the point of being almost exquisite. I would like to recommend Maestoso to friends but I will mention the delicious food with the caveat that the ambiance is too open and devoid of noise abating accouterments and chairs are extremely hard and uncomfortable. Having gone to all that trouble of preparing top-notch food of the quality that one wants to linger over, I found it puzzling why the owner/manager would not do what is necessary to make this place more relaxing and quiet. Fine food and unpadded metal chairs and no sound-absorbing curtains or draperies do not go well together.
Satisfying and delicious food in an art form.
I keep saying this is the best restaurant in San Diego!
I wasn’t disappointed. Absolutely the best pork chop I’ve ever eaten! The desserts are art... and the staff is terrific! Why eat anywhere else?
There are mant thinks to like about this place. Being automatically seated at the bar is not one. I dont mind having dinner at the bar by with a reservation i would at least like to be given the option of a table. The othwr issue we had was the sangria order-1 glass is 9.00 and a full to the top. A pitcheris 30.00 and got us 3 half full glasses and another 3/4 glass. It seemed like a total ripoff. For the good- the filet with risotto was outstanding as well as the Cacio Pepe e Agrumi. We tried one of the La Pinsa which was good as well.
The majority of our food was excellent. Our Filet was cooked too well for us. We requested medium rare and we received medium well. The Brazino had a lovely flavor, but a bit fishier than I prefer. The service was Amazing:)
Very friendly staff, and the head chef was a treat to talk to!
This may have been the best meal of my adult life! The restuarant was incredibly accomodating to our late birthday dinner reservation. The physical space is quaint with plenty of room at the counter and outdoor seating. The service was impeccable. The food perfectly balanced and unique. Chef came to our table multiple times. Also, the sweetest surprise of a birthday serenade by the (very easy on the eyes) staff. This was only outdone by a dessert so marvelous, the plate was (classily) licked clean. I am excited to go back next time I'm in San Diego (think Jessie Spano level of excitement).
Love this place, beautiful food, but timing of service is very hit and miss. Prepare to wait 20 minutes to get a glass of water. Food is exceptional
We love Maestoso! It’s the best Italian restaurant in San Diego. We did the chefs tasting menu and it was phenomenal!
The food was delicious - but the service was awful! It took over 90 minutes for us to get our food. They did try to make it right with a free round of drinks. With so many fantastic Italian restaurants in San Diego, I wish we had gone elsewhere.
Some of the food was fine. Some was under-seasoned. Some was awful. Service was all over the place.
Ambiance is cool but the food was so so. Cesar salad did not taste anything like a Cesar and wasn’t very good. Didn’t care for the octopus either.
The service was lacking from the start. Our water glasses were half filled and we had to ask for more water consistently, plus given only one menu for the two of us. Pasta was too all dente and extra sweet. Service overall was consistently poor. Servers were inattentive. We will NOT be going back and will not recommend this place to anyone.
