Madrina Bar y Tapas
Chef Ramon Simarro, whose experience consists of both Michelin-star restaurants and popular casual eateries focuses on seasonal products alongside authentic ingredients from Spain to re-imagine a menu that marries innovation and fun with Barcelona classics.
Translated from Spanish, Madrina is the whimsical and spirited godmother you always wish you had. Her playful demeanour is mirrored in food and service that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
The 37-foot bar serves sangria, cocktails and traditional tapas. In true Catalan fashion, the bar features a ham carving station and a Spanish style glass display case with cold bar delicacies. The open-kitchen serves the rest of the menu made up of modern interpretations of traditional Catalonian tapas.
Great atmosphere, awesome drinks and outstanding service. A bit pricey but it's a nice experience worth a visit.
We were really rushed through our dinner and restaurant was not busy.
. Tapas came almost all at the same time . Very small portions .
Food was ok.
The service was fantastic and food is always amazing, one of my most favourite places!
It was my second time a
Food is always amazing and have my mind blown. Service is so attentive and one of the best in Toronto! But it’s bit loud with the music, my friend couldn’t hear me very well across the table
What a wonderful addition to the distillery- Innovative beautifully presented and delicious tapas. Service was excellent and even though it was last minute notice they surprised my sis with a candled dessert and card signed by all the staff. Just great all around and you come out with right balance of full so you you can fully enjoy the flavours of each dish without being overwhelmed.
Delicious food, great atmosphere in the restaurant however, portion sizes were tiny. We spent a fortune but I left hungry unfortunately
Over priced and the food wasn’t all that great. Overall, I’ve had better tapas.
Madrinas is the perfect place for a romantic date. Lovely atmosphere, ambiance and amazing food in the beautiful Distillery District. Highly recommend!
A family get together from across the water- Amazing food and service
Loved the ambiance, food creativity and staff. I wish there was a little bit more space between tables. Too close to talk about anything you wouldn’t want someone to hear.
excellent food, great ambiance, great servie. The fix menue, highly recommended.
We always love going to Madrina. A great spot for a family Boxing Day lunch. Tiny plates mean every person gets one bite, but you can order more and more! The octopus and bone marrow dishes remain my favourite, but the foie gras and mackerel terrine was a new discovery and delicious!
The new menu has some tasty additions and all of our old favourites
Great food, great drinks, great music....great vibe!
Well worth your money, good quality foods for reasonable prices.
Food was amazing and the staff was attentive and excellent! Our first time at Madrina. Will definitely be back. Octopus is a must try.
Food was great, really tasty. Love the tapas style. Server was helpful and gracious. Went with a friend I hadnt seen in a while, during Christmas market, yet did not rush us through a lingering dinner, despite line up for table. Room was quite loud, but we moved to sit at corner of table instead of across from each other and that fixed problem of noise level.
Dinner with our girls at the Christmas Market
I found Madrina served Spanish food that me and my Spanish friends did not enjoy. They were different than the food that we had during the three trips that we were in Spain
I would highly recommend Madrina to some my friends who only wanted to spend lot of money and not expected to receive any value for it.
It was one of those “ I ‘ve been there” and “will never wanted to came back” places.
I done it, so can you.
But don’t expect fine dinning or any feeling about good food experiences. It is a good social place. The Place is so cozy that you will hear the conversations around you loud and clear. Never a dull moment or any privacy.
We went to our show after the Madrina experience. The best of the evening was ordering some good take out food after the show.
Highly recommended to people who want the coziness minus the food experience.
The food was great - very very small portions but most are priced reasonably. For 2 at dinner we had 7 dishes, and worked out to being $45 each including tax and tip. The service was great and the restaurant itself is small but cute.
I love the food and the restaurant but find it very noisy and also find the menu (dark background) with the low lighting very difficult to read.
The service was A+ from this Irish guy!!
Food was delicious and interesting, wine was good although a little more variety by the glass would be great. Service was excellent and the energy and ambiance excellent. We have already recommended Madrina and we will be back!
The ambience and service was excellent but the food was extremely small portions. Too small for the value, like 2 olives for $7, kind of ridiculous. Nice atmosphere but too much for too little. Had to go for food after.
The service was exceptional and the food was creative and delicious. Will definitely return and recommend to others.
Portions too small for price
They wont accommodate 3 by adding third piece to apps and adjusting price
Great place to share tapas. Friendly staff. Crowded but that is to be expected for a great dining spot.
The hostess at the door was very rude to my daughter when she arrived, telling her that she could only stay for 1 hour. The server was very good. Food was ok but not worth the price. Pay for the ambiance.
Great service, tapas are excellent. Order the signature gin
Presentation of food and drinks is stellar! Octopus, as well as foie gras with smoked mackerel are delish! Will definitely come back with a bigger appetite.
Very tasty food, specially the seabass, bone marrow and truffle egg yolks. Service was good, but could have been better. Despite us having a reservation, we had to wait 10-15min to be seated and it took then around the same time for someone to come and bring us the bill.
The service was outstanding. We went with our 4 month old baby and the staff went out of their way to make sure we had room for his car seat. They were very interactive throughout the dinner checking on us and our baby. At one point during our dinner, our baby was being fussy and staff stopped by to make silly faces and sounds to cheer him up- we thought that was very sweet. The food was delicious, great selection and flavours. We really enjoyed the beef tartare on bone marrow, the lobster cone and the shrimp paella. There wasn’t a changing table in the washroom for our little guy but we were provided ab alternative of using the facilities at the distillery district.
We went there for our office Christmas lunch. Although we arrived late for our reservation, we were graciously accommodated. Seven of us shared tapas, which were all amazing. We were seated at a high bar stool table which provided for mingling and good conversation. After lunch we took in the Christmas Market, tree, carolling and shopping. It was a lovely afternoon, with the food being at Madrina Bar y Tapas being the high point.
First time having Spanish Tapas. Great food, great experience!
I reserved a month ago for my husband’s birthday. I arrived a bit earlier than my reservation time. There were seats available. We were put in a shared table with many people. When I questioned the seating hostess, she put us in another shared table with less people. It still wasn’t ideal.
The server was good.
The food was okay, but not good value. Tapas portions were small for the price charged. The jamon was not sliced well, there was girst.
The service was outstanding. Our waiter was very helpful. The ambiance was very nice as well. As far as the food goes it was very tasty. The portions were very small though. I'm happy we tried it. It was our "girls night out" and we always have a good time when we're together but I don't think I will every go back.
Delicious tapas paired with a great bottle of Cab Sauv, as suggested by our server. Best restaurant in the Distillery besides El Catrin.
Nice people, good food...if you want to converse...go somewhere else! Music is too loud!
I’m obsessed with this restaurant. Everything is amazing.
