The pate was delicious. We got the calamari risotto and lobster lasagna, which were ok. Portions are on the smaller side as well.
Very tasty meal
Cozy restaurant. Great food. Very nice staff.
Terrific service from waiter. Nice atmosphere. Very good food and wine.
Although the food was good, the portions were very small for the amount of money we paid.
Fabulous restaurant. The food is very tasty and consistent and the ambiance is old school New York....which is (sadly) increasingly less prevalent as the Starbucks, Prets and Chipotles take out all the interesting family run restaurants. .... the service is gracious and efficient and there seems to be a real sense of pride in presenting delicious food.
Lovely French bistro with excellent menu selections, perfectly prepared. Tables just a little close together making conversation a bit difficult and not overhearing conversations next to you impossible.
the food was good and the service was exceptional. we had been there before and were just as pleased.
Very nice meal but somehow the bill ran to $170 for a lunch for 2. Couple of glasses of wine, a dessert and poof!
The food was very good; the service was somewhat slow; they seemed to be missing a a bartender/server. I ordered a second beer but never received it. I have been here before, the service seemed to be a one day problem, so I will be back again.
Surprisingly good neighbourhood bistro. Authentic French food, well prepared and well presented by friendly, knowledgeable staff. Recommended
Very nice wait staff Food is small in portion but very good in quality.
Good, solid neighborhood restaurant that never disappoints. The food is delicious and the ambiance is warm and cozy. Nice prixe fixe!
We went for French bistro food, and French bistro food is done very well here. For dinner I had a hanger steak with fries cooked to perfection, followed by a chocolate souffle, which was excellent. My wife had a lobster lasagna, which she very much enjoyed. Service was great and food came out quickly. We will definitely go back.
Absolutely delicious food on the prix fixe Valentines Day menu, and we'll definitely be back to try the regular menu at some point as well.
My one drawback: The servers were slightly hard to flag down or even make eye contact with from the very dim side room once our meal ended, and I did find that they (incorrectly) assumed my boyfriend would be handling the V-Day check and so did not check on us until he returned from the restroom - after an extended amount of time had passed since we turned down coffee/tea, finished our dessert course & had our plates cleared. But it is a French bistro, so a more laid back meal-ending was to be expected.
Oh, and the iPad menus were insanely bright compared to the dimness of the side room - my eyes took a while to adjust back once we'd ordered wine & food. It would be nice if the brightness of the screen were set a little lower at least for that back room.
Food is amazing and the ambiance is great. The wait staff is very friendly and helpful. My wife and I have been coming here for years and have never been disappointed by the delicious food.
Excellent food.
Noisy, close bar.
Relatively expensive.
I found this little French bistro completely by accident as I was walking around in the neighborhood with my fiance and boy oh boy - we will be back! When we entered the restaurant we were greeted by the chef at the door who kindly showed us to a perfect little table to the far right of the restaurant with a view of the entire floor. I wasn't long before the waiter came to take our order wine and food. Not knowing much about wine ourselves, we asked the waiter for his recommendation, and he proposed a perfect bottle of white for the two of us which was both inexpensive and sophisticated. We started our meal with the cheese board and some escargot before ordering the braised short ribs and the lobster lasagna - WOW! Everything had so much flavor, was well seasoned, and the portions were very generous which completely broke the stereotype of other French restaurants we had previously been too. The ribs were even served in front of us by the waiter, which definitely got the attention of the rest of the floor. We ended with the creme brule and chocolate cake which were both also divine and made for great Instagram pictures. All in all, lovely experience and would absolutely recommend to those looking for a casual great tasting dinner. Great discovery - I will be back!
Nothing special. Average restaurant, food is ok, but again, not impressive.
overpriced bland food They might do a lunch time business, given their location, but there is no reason for them to be open for dinner. Virtually no one in the restaurant. Nothing exciting on the menu, and the food is tasteless. I will not come back
First bistro meal of 2018 : exactly what we would have encountered in the 4me or 5em arrondissment. Pure pleasure, fine onion soup, great ambiance, good lunch crowd!
Godard is special!
An excellent dinner on New Year's Eve. I had an excellent Docwr Sile fillet. Kathy a well orepared hangar steak. The cherry giboullee for dessert was perfect.
We dined here for New Year’s Eve. They had a great NYE special menu, and it wasn’t a pre-fixe so there were a lot of options. Portions were perfect, not to little, not too much. We tried the cheese platter, rack of lamb, short rib, and the warm chocolate cake. All were delicious! Service was good, we were served quickly.
Fantastic food, presentation, and service. iPad menus are a bit unnecessary though.
Visiting a relative in NYC. Have been here before. Food is always excellent. Service great. Very accommodating for our arrival mid afternoon. Always a pleasure!
The service and food is absolutely perfect. We come here semi/regularly; it's been a few months since our previous visit. Since our last visit the waiter still remembered our order! Such personalized service. So friendly and kind. The food is fantastic. Ambience is lovely. Everything about this restaurant is perfection.
Tasty food in a great location. Highly recommend for small parties.
Excellent food. The atmosphere, decor and equipment is a bit grundgy, but the prices are OK and the service is fine.
Great neighborhood find. Very nice food.
The service was just awful— after sitting there for about 15 minutes, we were finally given water by one of the hostesses. After next 15 minutes, a busboy noticed that we were waiting and he became our server . As we were eating, waiter came by, aggresively butting into conversation to “apologize”. That was the last of him, until he brought the check. Food was unimaginative but ok.
Madison Bistro is one of those places that you know what to expect before you walk in to this establishment.
Good Food and good value.
Been going there for many years and have never been disappointed.
A perfect spot for dinner. The food is consistently great and the service is perfection. Try the chicken dish. It’s pure comfort food - just missing your Mom serving it. Great place for many years for us
Haven't been there in a couple of years as we have moved away. Coming back to NYC, We were looking forward to a quiet dinner but it was so noisy we gave up hope. Food was great as usual but ambience was not.
Price fixe lunch prices were great for the food quality. The steak and fries were delicious and the service was excellent. Overall a great experience.
I went for the set Thanksgiving dinner - turkey etc. It was nice enough for a single diner on a festive day. The staff were particularly helpful.
We visited Paris 6 months ago with friends and wanted to get together with these friends and reminisce about our trip over French cuisine. We knew nothing about this restaurant other than that is convenient to where all of us live. What an unexpected surprise! It was charming inside, the food delicious, and the service was wonderful! Our only complaint is that we ate way too much as it was too fantastic! We will definitely return!
Food was really good with authentic French flair. Nice wine list that wasn't over-the-top with respect to price. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the quaint atmosphere of the bistro.
Great service and an unrushed meal. Food was very good and fairly priced.
Madison Bistro is near my office -- and convenient to Grand Central -- but I've never visited. Will definitely be back. The food was wonderful, loved the table side service for some of the main courses, and the wine was fantastic. Will return!
Fabulous deal. Bar menu for lunch and table service price fix. Excellent value. Delicious food. Generous portions
