Good food overall. Service runs slow to good at times. Reservations recomnended
Over cooked food in a restaurant that needs to be more throughly cleaned. The plants are wilting for lack of water. Lack of ambience as the whole place echoes. Tried to have a nice quiet supper but was continuously disturbed by a loud speaker shouting trivial pursuit questions upstairs to half a dozen people.
I made reservations for 7:15 and arrived at 7:00. Understood we would have to wait as we were early. We went into the bar area to have drinks while we waited, but ultimately I had to approach staff to inquire on when we were going to be seated as it was now 7:20. We weren’t seated until 7:30. We sat and were not approached for 20 minutes by wait staff, but was told by the waiter it was a simple misunderstanding on his part and he apologized. Ordered drinks and appetizers. Appetizers arrived with one of them being the special (mussels w/lemon garlic sauce) and two other appetizers. When the mussels arrived they were cold... the sauce was delicious, but you could definitely tell they had sat for quite awhile. Steak was ordered as Med-rare. Arrived very rare and meat cut was fatty and undeniably a poor cut of meat. He ordered two sides but instead received two identical aides and had to ask for the other which was the vegetables. Another order of the admirals platter, it was cold and scallops were beyond over cooked. Didn’t receive both sides either. The other three orders were salmon, tuna and flounder. There weren’t any complaints on their meals. We were hoping to try and see if we couldn’t salvage the meal with dessert, but couldn’t find our waiter to make the order. It took a two of us to split off and try to find anyone that could help us at which time we just asked for our bill, after waiting for almost 30 minutes. We did approach the manager and expressed the dissatisfaction of the entire night, even though we were trying to be very forgiving due to their apparent shortage in staff. The manager apologized, and gave us a less than generous $30 off our $185 bill. I chose to bring my family who were visiting from out of state to a place I thought would provide at least basic service and a descent meal. All while enjoying music and the waterfront. This has been by far the lowest experience I’ve encountered at a local restaurant. Disappointed is an un
We went to Madigan's for a birthday celebration. They were renovating the kitchen which we did not know when we decided to go there. We were sat upstairs at a large round table for 10 and there were only 4 of us making it difficult to talk with each other. It took over an hour to be served our food and when it was served the rueben sandwich was burned and the crab cake was cold. When we ordered dessert the chocolate mouse was a runny sticky mess and the bread pudding was served cold without the ice cream. Our waiter tried his best but was limited. Oh and I forgot a bug dropped from the ceiling into my husbands food.
Not going again anytime soon.
Food was great, best service ever, my server was so attentive. Atmosphere was good, my ribs were a liltler bit over cooked
I had the crab cakes and the woman I was with had the fish special of flounder with spinach. Everything was first rate. We had a table upstairs next to a window and could look out on the Occoquan.
Made reservations and we had a wait time, this was a little bit annoying. The dueling piano bar was awesome, had a fantastic time.
Have eaten here numerous times, but each time the check in hostess seems to not have a clue about what to do with patrons that have a reservation.
the resturant was clean, staff was friendly, i’ve been here several times and everything has always exceeded expectations
Always a great experience at Madigans! Fresh food, nice ambiance, excellent service. The ribs were amazing and the fish of the day was excellent.
Atmosphere amazing, food was ehh
Madigan is a nice friendly restaurant on the water and has reasonable prices and we had good service. Since it wasn't crowded..our food came a little too quick as we hadn't finished our salads.
The food and spirits were good but what really reduced our experience was the service. One of the patrons in our party did not get their wine until half way through the entree (after the waiter was reminded twice). We had the same issue with him keeping water glasses filled. Our waiter just generally took too long to check on our table.
It was a great experience. Our Valentine’s Day dinner was great. The food & the service. We’ll definitely be back!!
Great place I love the relaxed feel of this place I like a comfortable dining room. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The service was great.
To start with I only chose this restaurant because it popped up when I was searching steak house (which it’s not) on Opentable and the reviews read good. But it’s not! Starting with being walked almost to the very back of the restaurant for a table when we passed at least 10 empty tables that had the same setting as the one we weare seated at. I hate to think that it was based off our race, but I don’t see any other reason. Then our server, Emily, very pleasant but the food coming out was terrible slow brought the service rating down. My husband ordered a shrimp cocktail for an appetizer and asked for a side of horseradish, why did it take forever for the shrimp to come out (it’s served cold) and when it did come out it was without the cocktail sauce and the horseradish in a plastic ramikin, we are dining in, why would it come out in plastic?! So we were waiting on our server to come by to ask for cocktail sauce, didn’t see her for a while so we asked another server, she pleasantly got the cocktail sauce from the refrigerator that I could clearly see from my table already prepackaged in a plastic ramikin. By the time my husband got to his second shrimp the entrees were now coming out. My crab crusted salmon was dry and my entree came out missing a side. My husband’s prime rib was over cooked and she never bothered to asked if it was ok. The garlic mash- no good. My daughter was happy with her cheeseburger; however, we were uncomfortably cold during most of the dinner, so much so that my daughter asked the server why is it so cold back here and she responded by saying,”I ask myself that all the time.” Well if you know it’s that cold back there why seat us there when the restaurant is practically empty?! I couldn’t wait to get the check and get out of there. The only thing that saves them from all one star is the fact that the servers were pleasant. We won’t be going back!!!
Lunch on a rainy afternoon was improved by looking out over the great waterfront view at Madigan’s. The quesadillas were delicious and the coffee was better than expected. I do wish that the music hadn’t been quite so loud & that the service had been a lot more attentive.
New Years Eve dinner and dueling pianos was fun with 2 under 21s. Had to wait over an hour for people to grudgingly move out of our reserved table, but not Madigan's fault.
Our waiter was not prepared for the new years even night. He did not know about the special menu, He did not bring us bread until I asked and it came 2 seconds before our entrees. He was very disorganized, not what I expected from a restuarant like this. I felt like I had to keep looking for him to complete what we wanted, ie bread, dessert menus, the correct drink order and finishing our original order. I also was seeing similar thing with customers around me complaining to a manager about another waiter who was not taking care of them.
great food and excellent service. to our delight, the food was not salty. we had dozen oysters, admiral fish platter, crab soup, crab alfredo. all good!!
it was worth driving for an hour.
Needs more parking availability and the overall rating would be 5 stars.
Went with friends and we totally enjoyed the environment and the staff. The food was delicious we enjoyed everything from seafood, steak and salads! My friends kid also enjoyed his favorites from the kids menu.
I went with three other women for dinner and then on to plant night which was there that night. We had such a good time. The waiter was outstanding- considerate, fast, fun and remembered that the 3 women I was taking out had birthdays to celebrate. We looked out over the water, but were inside where it was cozy and warm. We had trout and salmon which was excellent.
We were excited to try this restaurant as its location on the river is lovely. The service was excellent. Unfortunately, being a seafood restaurant, the seafood was mediocre. We ordered the fried oysters as an appetizer. The breading was light and promising, however, the oysters were cold and not cooked. I ordered the salmon salad. The greens were tasty although there was too much dressing for my taste and the salmon was dry/overcooked. Very disappointing. My husband had the main course salmon. There was nothing extraordinary about it- just okay- and the presentation was not appealing. Unfortunately, we will not go back unless it is for cocktails on the deck. We travel a lot and eat in many restaurants both locally and throughout the country and in comparison Madigan's is not worth the trip to Historic Occoquan.
We have eaten at this restaurant on several occasions. The view of the Occoquan River is great and the service has always been outstanding. Top restaurant in Occoquan.
My husband and I went here for a dinner date. The menu was pretty small and didn’t have many healthy options. My husband wanted a steak and there wasn’t a good choice for a decent steak. We felt the tuna poke appetizer had too much soy sauce, and was very strong tasting. It was overall an “okay” experience, however we probably wouldn’t go for a nice dinner. We may go for an outdoor lunch option.
The fried oysters were heavily breaded- too much- and were cold so we had to send it back. The crab stack had too much remolaude and not enough avocado.
Our waiter , George, was horrendous! He only had three tables, and still couldn’t get Anything but the actual meal order right. Drinks were wrong, salads but not the soup, NO water refills, never took our plates away, brought check with no dessert menu, and then when we asked for one he took our card back and rang us up anyway. Waterfront seating and we sat looking at a brick column, even though the place way very empty! Food itself was good, but be prepared for a lengthy and not very well attended to meal.
Good location...but service was non-existent so we left.
Very rude and liar hostess. We made a reservation for early dinner at 5:15pm on Sunday evening using OpenTable and wanted to sit outside. When we arrived we were told by the hostess that outside seating has a waiting list and asked us to sit inside. After sitting at our table for 15 minutes we noticed that there are at least 10 tables empty outside. We asked the hostess again we wanted sit outside and she said there is still waiting list. Anyway we finished our dinner at 6pm and found out that there was actually no waiting list. she lied us twice and wanted us to sit inside. She was also very rude with an attitude.
The food was good but there were problems with the service. I made a reservation and specifically asked for a table on the outside porch/deck. We were seated inside because, we were told there, was a 50 minute wait for outside table. Our table overlooked the outside porch which was at least 1/3 if not 1/2 empty of patrons. We also did not see any significantly large group of people waiting that would be consistent with a 50 minute wait.
When we asked about beers on tap, since nothing was shown on the menu, the waitress suggested a beer that I subsequently ordered. Only when I got the bill did I find out that the glass of beer I ordered was $9.75. That is well above their normal price for a pint of beer. My expectation is that I would have been informed of that when the waitress suggested that choice.
The wine list was very nice, the appetizers with the crab sampler was out of this world. Overal the food was awesome! Unfortunatelly the service not so much. Its a nice restaurant but I don’t think I would go back.
Our waitress Emily was the highlight of our evening! She provided outstanding and very friendly service.
We were there to celebrate our elderly mother’s birthday. The food was awesome and they made a special soft shell crab sandwich for my sweetheart, which was a treat!
My steak was well done to the point where it wasn’t edible. Then it took them 20 minutes to replace it with a slight more edible steak.
Great location. A little unorganized up front; lots of open tables outside but said it would be 30 minute wait. It was. Strange. Food was good not great but price was reasonable. Feels like experience could be so much more.
Have always loved Madigans! The menu has changed a little bit but it was still really great food! Our waitress was a bit too relaxed and also didn’t give us our full change.... not a huge deal but it would’ve been nice for the price to have a waitress that didn’t act like she was serving a fast food restaurant. Also - from our seat you could see a fridge or some type of prep room and the waiters and waitresses conversations were easily heard - it made an interesting evening hearing their banter back and forth!
But oh my the food... so so yummy! Definitely will return - we will just hope for a different table and different waitress!
Went here for our anniversary, atmosphere alone was amazing, but the food was on par as well.
The restaurant did not honor out Open Table reservation, and the hostess seemed uninterested in helping us. We just put our name on the wait list and were seated in around 45 minutes. Our server in the bar, JoJo, was very friendly and attentive. Our dinner seating on the patio overlooking the river was great. Service was slow, and the food was average. It took 20 minutes for my wife to be informed her dinner selection was not available. The bar, post dinner, was a lot of fun. The live band had the dance floor hopping.
I had the stuffed flounder and it was delicious. My Mother had a chicken ceasar salad. The service was great. The ambiance was superb. I'm from Philadelphia. And I would definitely recommend to anyone.
Cozy, small town waterfront setting. Good food and service
