I came here on Mother's Day so to be fair, I should have expected it to be packed which it was. I think for the quantity and quality of the food that night, the prices were a bit high. I came to this same place about 5 years ago and couldn't wait to return, but I found that the food was not as tasty and lukewarm. They seemed to be understaffed on such a busy night and we could not get the attention of the poor waitress dealing with multiple tables. I do not think I will go again.

Went on mother's day. I got the organic chicken with rice&raisins. Our food took a long time to come and once it came, they brought out dishes for only 3 people in our party. My wife had to wait about 4-5mins for her plate after everyone else already had theirs. The appetizer we ordered came with the main course and not before. For some weird reason, the kitchen was closing for an hour while we were there. My chicken was overcooked. My dad didn't particularly care for his fish, but he ate it. My wife felt like the lobster was a little chewier than she had hoped. My mom liked her lamb. We got a salmon cake appetizer for the table, i felt like it was a little overcooked. I make baked salmon cakes for myself every now and again - i don't want to go to a restaurant and feel like my salmon cake compares to what they cook. The presentation of the salmon cake was nice. I would still go back to madiba because the staff were friendly and they separated the dry foods from the wet when wrapping everything up.

I live in the neighborhood and have been to Madiba many times. The restaurant is in a great location with great people watching for Sunday Brunch. The food is really good and the ambience can't be beat. It sometimes takes a while for the food to be served but it's always worth the wait. I plan to go many more times.

I've never been to a restaurant and had such a horrible experience. We got there and it was super crowded and it seemed chaotic. We told the gentlemen at the front that we had 8:30 reservations and gave him our names. He said ok and then disappeared. He never checked the computer, didn't write anything down and most of all he never came back. We then told the other gentleman at the front the same thing and he says ok but we have about 30 ppl ahead of you. I asked what was the point of reservations then and he said well everyone reserved for the same time. Again he didn't check the computer or take our name. So we decided to sit at the bar to figure out our next move and after speaking to the bartender he was able to secure a table for us. We were shown to our seat but that was it. No one gave us menus or came to take any orders. I had to flag down one of the guys working to ask for menus and eventually put in a order. There was one waitress there who just kept passing our table and never asked if we wanted anything but she paid exceptional attention to one table and that table only. Finally we flagged down another person to take our drink and appetizer order which came out pretty quickly. I ordered the wings and my friend the samosas. I wasn't impressed with either. I found the wings to be oily and the samosas to be bland. We finished our appetizers and kinda sat around for a while waiting for a server to come over and take our dinner order but NOPE. Again we had to flag someone down to place our order. It was the most frustrating dining experience. We were given zero service. We had to beg to be served and what we were served was average at best. I had to flag someone down for the check and by that time I was beyond ready to leave. Suffice it to say I will not be returning. I'm not going to beg a restaurant to take my money.

Love going to Madiba for a great taste of South Africa. The food is brilliant and service delightful. One downside consistently seems to be the reservation system and wait to be seated. Other than that bring on the pap & vleis!

I always enjoy eating at this restaurant. Due to its popularity, I didn't want to take the chance and have to wait. So the last couple of times Ive went, I made sure to make reservations. Apparently having one doesn't seem to matter. The hostesses attempted to tell us that we would have to wait for over 30 for our table despite being on time for our reservations. Which happens to be the same wait time for the people walking in and adding their name to the list for a table. It didn't sit well so I inquired as what was the purpose of making reservations. He couldn't actually give me an answer and then said he would make some adjustments. After waiting for about 10 minutes of waiting we are being walked to a table, we meet another couple and who is being walked to the same table. They also had a reservation for the same time. We ended up being seated at the table. I love the food and the atmosphere. However they are becoming very unorganized with their service is horrible. We had to ask our waitress to clear our table for us, ask for several things like water repeatedly.

The short ribs arrived lukewarm and were so dry they were inedible, leathery and dry, as if they had been reheated multiple times or left over from the day before, however the monkey gland sauce was excellent. That, I ate. The boboti was just okay, probably because it was served almost cold. On the other hand, the waitress was both helpful and pleasant, taking care of our service promptly after mentioning we had tickets for BAM and would need to hurry out when we were finished. This place was packed and had a line waiting to get in. Based on the reviews, Madiba should have been far better than it was. Did we order the wrong dishes or was this just a really bad night in the kitchen? We won't be back.

We had this really nice server who had started that day. He was really nice and genuinely concerned about our dining experience. There was another server, a woman, who was wearing shades and sauntering back and forth as though she was the cat's meow who was okay, but her mannerisms were quite irritating. The food was just not my cup of tea. The drink was horrible. I would not return here again except for maybe the corn and the fries. Those two items were really, really good.
