Mader's German Restaurant
We drove all the way from Chicago to eat here and were not disappointed. The best sauerbraten ever. Wonderful waitress. Beautiful ambiance. Highly recommend.
Waitress was wonderful-her husband is the bar manager and made me a great Bloody Mary. Entrees of Wiener Schnitzel and Sauerbraten were excellent.
The drinks, food and servers were all great. Would recommend Mader’s
Choice of beer and entree was extensive. Chose the Lamb shank for both of us. One was a bit dry... the other still cold/frozen along the bone. Tasty but disappointing. Spaetzle was good. Service was friendly and efficient. Beautiful old -world German restaurant.
Exceptional service from Nathalie. Food is always very tasty with generous portions. Highly recommend the schnitzel. Best part of the evening was the homemade apple strudel! Can't wait to return to this well established restaurant.
A very fine restaurant. A very special place. Once you go there it is easy to understand why they have been open for over a century!
The food was delicious. We tried the German sampler to get more variety- that is an incredible menu option. We also had the giant pretzel. Probably too much, but it too was fantastic.
Our server never let our water glasses go empty and asked to replenish drinks as needed. He also gave us good suggestions for food.
Ambiance was nice and very German.
We were called 30 minutes before our reservation to inform us Maders was closed. Extremely irritated. NO explanation was given. only that it was "beyond their control". It was the evening before the PINK concert. Now try to get another reservation somewhere close to Fiserv Forum! We found out later they were shut down by the Heath Department because of RATS! Beyond their control!!!!! I think not!
Very disappointed. I was in the mood for German food, and have loved your restaurant in the past. We had Rep tickets and so were downtown. I don't know why you cancelled our reservations? Message on my phone said it was some kind of emergency??
We came at a quiet time, around 4 on a Wednesday. Everything and everyone from the valet to our waitress and hostess were attentive and extremely helpful. The food was wonderful, different from my mothers, but nonetheless wonderful. The prices for traditional German fair at first seemed a little high, but give it a chance! The food was well above par and we had leftovers including desert to take home with us. Thank you Mader’s!
i would recommend with caveats...the prices are a bit high, the portions are too large, but the room is nice in a very old-fashioned way, and the beer selection is pretty awesome.
The server's attention to detail made the difference!
Great service and food. I made reservations for a birthday but no happy birthday to recognize my special request.
Disappointing service. They were out of the wine we ordered and then suggested a different bottle which was almost twice as much. Overall a disappointing experience.
One of my all time favorite restaurants. Always good food and service. We had a great meal with very good service.
Really great authentic German restaurant! Family recipes passed down hundreds of years. Authentic decor and ambiance. Friendly people and excellent service. We didn't know a lot about the food so our server , Gage, patiently and knowledgeably explained the various dishes. Fantastic service!!! Highly recommend!!!
We went for Sunday brunch on Easter. We were seated in the upstairs room, which was very dark and cramped. Also, it was incredibly HOT. I don’t believe they had the A/C on, but they should have. The upstairs buffet food line was also very cramped.
The food was ok. The service was good, however.
Overall, I was underwhelmed. I can’t really recommend to others. I’ve had better German food and better overall dining experiences. I expected more.
The food, the service, and the ambiance was fantastic!
Wonderful birthday dinner with my wife. Looking forward to returning.
We've been coming to Maders for over 30-years and never had a bad meal. Overall everything has always been great.
One of the best meals we’ve had in Wisconsin. We ordered the platter with schnitzel, sauerbraten, spatzel, etc., and we’re very full after splitting it between the two of us. Everything was flavorful and very tender. We can’t wait to go back.
Entrees are pricey but good. Love the old German atmosphere Great beer and wine selection
Very friendly service and authentic experience
A Milwaukee institution that no longer shines so bright. Our party of four dined there on Saturday, April 6th, 2019. This restaurant is a classic that stretches back decades. The framed and signed photos of celebrities throughout the ages is testament to that. But sadly, the food does not match either the history or the ambiance.
The starters we had (a weisswurst with pretzel, a cheese spread with pretzel crostini and a cheese and sausage plate) were all quite good. But the liver dumpling soup was a serious disappointment. Very muddy, cloudy broth and under-seasoned dumplings. A couple of bites and those of us who had ordered it were ready to push the bowls away.
The schnitzel was quite dry and overcooked. The sauerbraten tough and the rhenish gravy bland. The sauerkraut side dish is piquant and assertive, rather than mellow and toothsome. I suspect they just open a can/jar and reheat it.
If you go, order the whole pork shank. (I did.) It, alone of the main courses we had, is delicious! Long-cooked with a rich brown gravy, it was great.
Prices are pretty high for what you get.
The German beer is good, of course.
The atmosphere was awesome and very unique. The food was authentic and delicious. Would highly recommend!
Great true authentic German experience, staff very knowledgeable.
Mader's has been our go-to place to eat whenever we go to the Marcus Center because it's an easy walk after parking in the MC ramp. Food, drinks and service are always splendid. I love the sauerbraten, the roulade, and the schnitzel, and I can't get enough of their spaetzle.
Overall it was a good experience, they were full up at every table, so a little wait for things is expected. Our server worker hard and did a good job. Some of the food was great, some didn’t quite make it. We had the rouladen and the pork shank. The pork was delicious and the sides were good. With The rouladen we had asked for a different vegetable, brussels sprouts, which wasn’t an issue with the server at all to substitute. The issue was they were practically raw, and not appetizing therefore. We were plenty full with the rest of our food so we didn’t ask for new sprouts.
Again overall it was a good experience, and we hope our next visit will have a little room for improvement.
Will be a return customer!! Great old historic building, great location. Walking distance to the Forum.
Food was amazing. Never had Elk before. Very good!
The Pretzel is the BEST I have ever had...drinks were good, staff was fabulous!
Ambiance is ok. Food was edible but mediocre. We had pork shank and weiner schnitzel. With its reputation and price range it should have been better. Spinach salad was drowned in dressing. Oxtail soup was too thick (more like porridge) and salty. Avoid the booths in the bar area unless you are there for sports bar like experience.
The food and service was great, as always. We always recommend Mader’s to everyone.
Great food, drinks were really good. Would definitely come back.
First time traveller to Milwaukee and liked the historic feel but it felt like the best years were in the past. The food was good but not for the price. If each meal was about 10$ cheaper it would have been about right.
I have eaten often st Mader’s a
and it has always been a great experience and the food is always excellent. Neil Mandel. 4145077712
We love the Sunday Brunch. The selection is great and all the food is delicious. It may be a little on the spendy side but well worth it.
Lovely surroundings and excellent food on the brunch buffet. A bit pricey, though, so we won't go back unless it's a very special occasion.
I have been to Mader's several times in the past, but always for lunch. The evening dining experience is on a different level. Excellent food and plenty of it. Actually more than I could eat and believe me I tried.
I went with the "Victor Mader" recommendation on the menu. Ox tail soup, salad with hot bacon dressing, pork shank with red potatoes and sauerkraut. Then of course apple strudel for dessert. All in all, it was a great experience.
Great service and good food. A great place to get German food in Milwaukee, WI.
Birthday was good
