Mader's German Restaurant
Nice table in the corner. Cheese and sausage tray outstanding. Waitress was very busy yet efficient. Place was packed, but honored our reservation on time.
We come regularly and always have great food and ombiance. This Saturday it was hard to hear people at our table in conversation with Marquette and Bucks fans in the restaurant. We felt bad for our son because this was his first time experience at Mader’s.
This is a must see historic restaurant. The food was authentic and delicious. Our sever was attentive. We had a lovely, relaxed meal without feeling rushed. We were also given plenty of time to admire all of the German decor and photos of famous people who had visited the restaurant.
We were a party of 6 with everyone ordering a different dish. All dishes were excellent. The wait staff was wonderful. It was a very pleasant experience. We recommend the restaurant.
Our server was very efficient and friendly. There was a bit of activity in our dining room, so bit noisy. Food very tasty. Parking attendants friendly and careful.
It was just okay- not spectacular. Worth going at least once
Mader's is not the fine dining experience it was as recently as twenty years ago. We went to enjoy our 51st wedding anniversary dinner. Mader's was an extraordinary part of our family life in the late 40's, 50's and 60's for me. The wait staff was inattentive and we had to catch a staff member on their way past to get word to our server. The food was lacking the intensity of German food though it was not what I was/am familiar with and enjoyed all my life. Sorry I can't be more positive but its more important to express the truth of my opinion than fluff something that wasn't up to snuff.
Never fails. Love going there for brunch. The variety is great and love the new room location for the buffets. Service was great.
Ii want to say our waitress, Becky, was just wonderful and very knowledgable. The food was very good and we enjoyed the atmosphere. The pictures on the wall were so much fun to look at, to see how many famous people have been there. Had a great time.
Family funeral lunch. Our server Allison was outstanding. She really made the experience wonderful. Good food etc. Highly recommend.
Best German restaurant in the country. Staff was history knowledgeable, food knowledgeable, courteous and very happy. Loved it, only problem I live 2000 miles away
Best brunch in entire city of MKE!!!
Wonderful experience!!!! Can not wait to return!!! Food was outstanding!!!! Love my new stein!!!!
The pork shank was phenomenal. Service and atmosphere was authentic and high quality. Would recommend anytime you are in the 3rd Ward.
Wonderful service, very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Food was outstanding, I would drive up from Schaumburg Illinois again just to go there. Parking was effortless, the Valet guy was funny and friendly. Thus place is ideal for dinner before a concert, game or show, being right in the middle of it all.
For fine dining food was poorly presented. Food very good . Smaller portions than in past. Very good service
Caught the tail end of the Sunday Buffet, so food a bit limited and not as hot as it could have been. But. still great taste and many options.
The food and service we're excellent. Unfortunately, the tables were so close together in the dining area behind the bar that it was hard to get through and we were on top of our dining neighbors.
We have always liked Mader's and had great experiences. This visit was an exception. I had the Schnitzel which was salty plus it had anchovies which I was unaware of and not expecting. I should have caught that as it was in the Holstein description and had them held. I picked of 6 after eating a couple. Way too many and overpowering. Two of the other meals were the Beef & Mushroom Strudel not up to par and hardly touched as they were both very dry and overcooked. The 4th meal was the pork shank which is always very good and was said to be excellent. The desserts (Strudel) were very good and came out quickly. We were there for New Years Eve but were seated fairly early so it was not crowded. Service was ok but not as good as usual and with limited crowds it should have been better. Many times we were out of drinks/water/coffee and had to flag staff down for help.
We went for New Years eve when my friend suggested it. We had not been here in over 10 years, wasn't very good back than. Also my mother in law was still alive and made great german food. Well we were very impressed with our meals. They were all tasty and generous portions. Service was great.
Great food and ambiance. Service was good. Will go back again.
Excellent food, great atmosphere, great value, awesome history.
My parents moved from Milwaukee 20 years ago and asked to go to Mader's for nostalgia during their visit. We had an amazing dinner and an amazing time, and I say screw nostalgia - go because it's a great place with great atmosphere, service, and food.
We had great service and great food. We can’t wait to get back. Very much worth dining at.
Fantastic food, great atmosphere
Waitress was slow with any service and forgot salads and we were late in going to our event
Perfect for a large family gathering. Authentic food and decor. Celebrated with notoriety.
Checked out this restaurant at the recommendation of one of the staff members at the Milwaukee Public Museum. This restaurant was a great experience. Met expectations, food quality was wonderful and you got a great amount of food for your dollar. I had the Wiener schnitzel sandwich. I would certainly come back and try out some other dishes.
Dining at Maders is always a superbly satisfying experience. Thank you again for a wonderful meal and a lovely afternoon.
Disappointed. Numerous problems with food quality and temperature. Felt that we were inconveniencing wait staff. Not worth the $$!
Judy was great as our server. Ambiance and food were excellent as always.
I have not been to Maders for YEARS & was so so pleased with the overall experience . We (party of 4) had dinner prior to attending a play at the Pabst. I made reservations weeks ahead through open table & all went exactly as I requested. Food was EXCELLENT, with portions more than ample & we even split two desserts amongst us! Each of us had a different entree so we saw a good sample of the menu served up to us & each person absolutely enjoyed the meal. Make no mistake that this is authentic German cuisine and discussion at our table drifted to not having such good german food since past trips to Munich!! And I must not forget to mention the quality of the cocktails & delicious beer. YUMM!!! Our waitress was perfect! Very knowledgeable, efficient & was always close by when we needed a special request. The ambiance (at christmas) was wonderful & I just say enough about the overall experience. With so many good restaurants in downtown Milwaukee, there is really something special about Maders to stand out in my memory & I am very thankful & will RETURN for more!
Outstanding! Staff was knowledgeable and passionate about the experience and, of course, the food didn’t disappoint... That’s why they’ve been around for over 100 years! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great waiter. Not rushed .
I was blown away by our service and knowledgeable waitress. The food came out promptly for a party of 6 and it was delicious!
Large array of alcohols, great wine pairings and nice atmosphere. Will return.
Dinner date after seeing the Christmas Carol at the Pabst theater. Although service was a bit slow and somewhat inattentive the food was pretty good. Unfortunately my meal which was gluten free was uninspiring. Definitely a downside of the allergy. It could have been so much better had they tried gluten free breading or something other than just pounded meat which ended up being overlooked. My husband’s meal was great! He was thrilled. I do love Mader’s and German food but being gf is so hard at places like this. I’ll try again but not a sampler type meal.
Great service and atmosphere, one of our favorite places. The onion soup has to be sent back and the chef agreed it was horrible. Otherwise a good experience but not cheap.
The pork shank is amazing!! It’s no wonder they have been serving this dish for over 100 years! The home made warm pretzels and pretzel bread is fantastic as well. Another great dinner! Thank you!
One of the only remaining authentic German restaurants in Milwaukee. The artifacts alone are worth the drive. We would certainly recommend the Rueben Rolls (enough for 6) and the Potato Pancakes ( best I've ever had) as starters.
As we were going to a concert, we did not have a main course. However, the salads were both generous and delicious. The only let down was the Bread Pudding desert. It simply wasn't edible. Our server was very good except that I had to prompt her on the idea that we shouldn't be charged for the dessert, This will not stop us from going back.
We came from the UP of Michigan because we both felt like good German food while in Milwaukee, and Mader's had very high ratings. It was good, don't get me wrong, but I feel somewhat lacking for all the hype and price. It was fun to step back into Old-World Germany, and we both enjoyed the wines and beer we had. I ordered schnitzel and scallops but felt my schnitzel was overdone and too crispy for my personal taste, and hubby agreed that it was the same with his order. There were only two scallops but they were delicious. Seasonal vegetables turned out to be three pieces of asparagus, but again, they tasted good. My spätzle were kind of tasteless; I make better at home, frankly. Hubby wished there had been more red cabbage with his order. We didn't hate it here by any means but probably won't come back if we're in the area again.
