We were seated next to the bar. Our table was along a very busy pathway for many servers. The Onion soup was very good. The pork shank was flavorful. The schnitzel was good.

It is a charming iconic Milwaukee restaurant that we are glad we visited (once!). The food wasn’t what we expected. The schnitzel was really overcooked/dry. The goulash was a little better but salty. When we got the bill (expensive!!) we were shocked to see that 2 bourbons were $48. We didn’t order doubles (and they were a typical restaurant pour). The server (who was very attentive) said it was a new pricing strategy and because the bourbon was ordered “on the rocks” it would be $24. A rip off! If we had known that we would have ordered a bourbon with a separate glass of ice! It was nice that there was free parking but we will never return nor recommend to friends.

This was our first time at the restaurant. I wish I could remember our waitress's name. I do know she was from Minnesota She was the best, very friendly, recommended great options for us, appetizer Ruben Rolls were unbelieveable. Then the dinner was great. We were stuffed but she convinced us to try the bread pudding which was very good.

We had a reservation at 6:00. We were told that the restaurant was busy and that we would have to wait 20 minutes for a table or we could sit in a booth next to the door, which was drafty and cold.

Went there for the first time for my German wife's birthday. It was a Tuesday night. She loves schnitzel and she had it there. She loved it. I had the combo-sausage platter with kraut and a huge dumpling that was great too. It took a while for the waiter to acknowledge us and come over to us after we were seated by the host. But once he realized we were his table, his attention to us was fine. A bit pricey, but you have to go there at least once.

A 102 year classic German restaurant in downtown Milwaukee. They had all the traditional German fare: rouladen, sausages, sauerbraten, schnitzel, etc. We had the liver dumpling soup (good) and the rouladen (excellent). Pricing was higher than I expected, but understandable for a downtown restaurant. The space is old world class; lots of gorgeous paneling, stained glass, and German carvings. We noted that there was no background music, making conversation easy. The young servers were all very attentive, pleasant and friendly. For a Friday night, it was not too crowded. We had 7pm reservations and the room started to empty by 7:20, possibly due to a Buck’s game and a popular musical in the area.

schnitzel for 3 of us and sauerbraten for one. We loved our entrees and the purple cabbage was great. Our waitress was attentive and we had a great meal. two of us lived in Germany and we gave it a big thumbs up. Worth the drive.

We like German restaurants in general and Mader’s is now at the top of our list. The ONLY aspect that was a little off was the slightly pushy attitude of our waitress. The food was perfect.
