Mader's German Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
The food was amazing. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu, especially about the beer. I had one of the best German meals and best beers ever. The only downside was that my reservation made through OpenTable, they had no record of it. I do not know if that was a fail on the part of Open Table, or the restaurant. My table included a professional chef in fine dining, and we all agreed we will be there when we are in Milwaukee next year.
We came to the restaurant after a show. We arrived a half hour early and were seated right away. Our service was very good. Our waiter was very attentive and very helpful in helping us with questions regarding different meals as we had never been there before. My husband actually tried his first German dish and really liked it. I also enjoyed my meal. Would go back again.
Everything was great except there was this arctic blast that came through the main dining room from the front door when it opened. My calves were frozen. They did move us, however, some one else was the unlucky person to sit there. They need to build a barrier during the winter to prevent that draft. Everything else was outstanding!!!!
Dining before a sporting event. Had reservations and still needed to wait to be seated. Dining room very full so decided to be seated in the bar - very small booths. Sat at bar instead with nice but possibly newer bartender. Service was slow, food came not all at once and not complete and needed to ask for plates, napkins, utensils. The food at Mader's was delicious, as usual!
We live in the San Francisco Bay Area and have limited choices for German food. It was a treat to dine at Mader's and enjoy the authentic German dishes that we love! The wiener schnitzel was delicious...not too heavy and perfectly prepared! Everyone in our party was very pleased with their meals. We enjoyed looking at the photos of notable people and memorabilia that decorate the restaurant; it was a very enjoyable dining experience.
Overpriced for mediocre food. False advertising in their menu - offer Wienerschnitzel but it is pork schnitzel - $5 more for the real Wienerschnitzel. The spaetzle was totally bland & lukewarm to cold. The veal was hot & tasty. The red cabbage was very uneven. Ordered liver dumpling soup - never received it as the server just brought the entrees & then informed us that they were out of the soup - totally ridiculous on a Sat night at 6:30 & they are out of soup. Said they were making some more - would we like to wait??? Was it coming out of a can?? Last time I was there was over 20 years ago & the service & food was horrible. Nothing has changed. Total waste of money.
Food was delicious, great value, BUT according to to Maders, when I arrived at the restaurant they never received my reservation. This site APPEARED to reserve my wife and I a table BUT according to Maders, they never received it. We ended up sitting at the bar.
Our waitress and food were very good. This was a Wednesday night before Thanksgiving so it was not very busy. I was disappointed to find many burned out light bulbs and the glasses above the bar were extremely dirty... the whole place needs a good dusting and new lighting, the CFL bulbs are terrible.
Came in for dinner before a show and had very high expectations given this place's history. But we left with nothing really positive to talk about. Food and service were acceptable but nothing to write home (or in a review) about. We had two entries and a salad. Salad was swimming in a salty bacon dressing so a bad start. Pork schnitzel was no where near as good as others we had had. Chicken filet was also fine but not impressive. Summary: meal was a lot of money for simple Germany food that wasn't all that great.
Overall it was a pleasant experience. The food was a bit on the dry side and it did not have very much flavor. The Rheinischer sauerbraten was the most disappointing. I was only given a butter knife, which should have been sufficient, but it was so dry I ended up having to use the bread knife to cut it. Eric, the server, was helpful and the pretzel bread and potato dumplings were delicious. I should have said something about the food but did not as we were attending an event immediately after dinner at the performing arts center . The theater waits for no one!
Didn't actually get to eat. Sat for so long waiting for our drink that we left. It wasn't bust as it was the middle of the day, so not sure why so slow. Would have liked to try the food too. Rated food at 1 because there is no other option when we didn't get to eat. They really didn't seem to care we were leaving either. I guess their 'celebrity clientele' is enough to sustain their business.
