We were seated upstairs where the attention to the buffet always seems to be lacking. The omelette guy was not present for quit some time & there was no one to slice the meat either. The guy told my wife it was not his job. Later it was. Much later maybe 20 minutes into our dining he was finally manning the stations. For the price the service and food needs to be much better.

Average food that is very pricey. Service wasn't great. The building is beautiful and the experience is worth a one time try. We will not be back though. There is much better German food in Milwaukee.

Food was great, ordered the Rhine Sampler, which came with the wiener Schnitzel and the goulash. Although the food was great, the amount of meat in the goulash was not very much and the price of the dish was pretty high for what you get. It's a unique place that is worth visiting, Just not very often.

The quality of the food has declined. The four of us ordered the German sampler. The Snitzel was tough. We couldn’t even cut it with a serrated knife! The potato dumpling was very hard. Overall, I thought the prices were too high for the quality. The service was fine.

Madres is a very fun place to dine. We sat at Bob Hope's table. A lot of the tables have tags of famous people who have eaten there. Lots of photos of celebrities on the wall in the hall going towards the restroom. I love the decor, German and medieval. The food was plentiful and good, and the service was perfect.

Very cool atmosphere, super server, food quite expensive, definitely German, which is what you'd want when coming there. I'd have to go back and try something else as my dinner was ok, but the other 2 people with me, liked what they had, so maybe just my entree' was rather bland. It was quite loud, at least when we were there, people coming in after a game, but also likely a fun place to go with group after that kind of event.

Incredibly disappointed in our experience. It took over 20 minutes for someone to come over to fill our (dirty) water glasses and take our order. At almost an hour of waiting, we still hadn't received any food. We ended up leaving.

We visited Mauder's on 2/24/2023. By far one of the worst meals I have ever experienced. I am German and a Certified Executive Chef. I do not take this review lightly. Seems Mauder's has lost its charm. It is not worthy of your hard earned dollars !!! Service was slow and server seemed not to know menu or just did not care. Restaurant was "Not" busy. Pretzel loaf was "Stale" as if it was sitting in a warming drawer from previous day. We ordered Liver Dumpling Soup - very disappointed in its lack of flavor and presentation. Two giant chunks of liver (with no flavor - how is that possible?). Only positive was broth helped Stale Pretzel Loaf. My wife and I ordered a sampler; only edible (barely) item was the Kassler Rippchen. Everything else was "very" bland and overcooked. Gravy on top of Sauerbraten was extremely thick as if it has been warming from previous day. Sauce for Schnitzel had a 1/4 inch layer of fat (see photo). Spaetzle was mushy as if it had been sitting in water. Potato salad was flavorless and mushy. Spoke to manager and pointed out every item was disappointing. He actually agreed how bad everything looked when asked am I saying anything wrong he agreed meal looked disappointing. He offered to bring us new food but it was obvious that everything is mass produced and sitting waiting for customers. We turned down his offer as replacement food would come from same line. I had presented my business card to manager. To this date he had not reached out. Do not waste your money or time at Mauder's. Chef C.

This is a long established business with an interesting decor that appears to be resting on its laurels. I purchased the German Sampler which was advertised as being inspired by JFK with the expectation that I would enjoy several tasty items. It was a disappointing experience. The potato dumpling was cold and tasteless. The Rheinischer sauerbraten was sickeningly sweet. The only item on my plate that was served hot and delicious was the potato pancake. The red cabbage was also okay. I have eaten German food at many restaurants around the country and have rarely been disappointed with the meals. This establishment has the potential to be a fantastic place to dine if it would elevate its food to the levels it advertises itself as maintaining in the 1960s when famous people were dining at the restaurant. For now I will cross this establishment off my list of dining options when I am in Milwaukee.

Will start by saying we picked Maders because we wanted to eat at an old established restaurant in downtown Milwaukee. We were coming from Theater. We were greeted promptly and seated at our table which was set and ready for us as we had a reservation for 8. Our waiter came over and took our drink orders right away. After waiting a while for our drinks ( understandable as the bartender looked pretty busy.) Then our orders were taken . Again we waited for our food which came eventually however, one person from our party never had his food delivered. He waited and waited and finally flagged someone down to ask about it. Our server never came to check on us. We were told it would be right out. The rest of us felt so bad we started giving our dear friend some of our food. When his food finally came we were all done with our dinners!!! Terrible! He had his dinner packed to go!!!! Can’t believe that … We did get management to our table and there was an adjustment to our bill… to little to late😟

I have been a patron of Maders for over 50 years and have always enjoyed going there. My husband and I stopped in for lunch last Sunday. We were presented with a very sparse menu. My husband ordered schnitzel. It came with spetzel and a breaded pork tenderloin. Period. He ordered gravy that was extra. He ordered red cabbage instead of sauerkraut, that was extra. His very small meal ended up costing $39. I ordered baked onion soup. It used to be delicious and comes with lots of melted cheese. Mine came with one little square of cheese on top of some very thin oily broth that was loaded with pepper. I could not eat it and asked the waiter why it was so peppery. Well I guess that question broke the code. His answer was we get it that way. We do not add pepper. That’s the way it comes from the distributor. What???? Maders no longer makes their soup? What else is served that is precooked? I had also ordered a salad with hot bacon dressing. Although the salad dressing was good, it was served cold. No longer a bread basket with your meal. Now you can get a very small loaf of bread for $2. Hate seeing one of my favorite restaurants bite the dust especially after long-standing reputation it has had.
