Mader's German Restaurant
Felt it was a weee but pricy
Incredible Brunch! Great Food! Great Service! Will definitely be back!
Unique ambiance featuring antique German wood carvings and a collection of medieval weapons and armor. Menu features rarely-found German specialties such as liver dumpling soup.
Just a date night away from home. Recommendations were very good and the service was excellent.
Mader’s is by far some of the best German food to be found outside of the Fatherland. Everything is scrumptious and the service is always friendly. And, added bonus, the new renovation to the space is very successful. It is fresh and light, but still holds the Old World charm. When you visit Milwaukee, this is a place you must enjoy!
Great. Waiter was excellent and the Rueben rolls were the bomb
Rachel was an amazing server! Food was fantastic, we got the tour of Germany and it did NOT disappoint
Background music was very loud. We were in the bar area but it was loud. No sound of music hits but 70 Motown.
Everything else was outstanding as usual. Our waitress Rachel Wes excellent.
Great time with group
Wow! Where to start? The food was superb, the service was the stately old school with time between courses to enjoy. Such a beautiful setting. I almost thought I was back in Munich at the Rathskeller. Would definitely recommend unless you are in a hurry. Why rush, savior the entire experience!
I visited Mader's for NYE 2020 dinner. Our table was ready immediately at check-in. Our server made several excellent beverage and meal recommendations. Kudos to her for being able to pronounce those difficult German names! The stained glass, wooden carvings and arched ceilings added the perfect ambiance to an intimate dinner experience. Thank you Mader's for making our night special!
A tradition of dining here before catching my flight home to NYC after visiting family in Wisconsin.
I hate writing a negative review especially after speaking to the manager who apologized and made it right. My review is strictly about our service or lack of service. We have never had such terrible service. Our server was rude and just didn't care about serving us. I'm not sure if it was because we had a party of eight and her tip was automatically added to the bill and she just didn't care. It's hard to give a accurate review of the food because it was cold when served due to our server. We were very disheartened by our experience.
We have been going to Mader's for years. I understand it is a popular place and it was a busy night, but we had to wait over 30 minutes past our reservation time for a table. However, food and service was fantastic as always. Will of course go back!
Food is great but pricey. Wait time for food after ordering was longer than 1.5 hour. Obvious kitchen issues this evening but no service recovery attempts by our waiter, drinks not refilled, table avoidance & no manager follow up. Most tables in our area were waiting on food. Very sad as we have loved to visit when in town but can no longer recommend based on lack of customer appreciation.
Always a joy! Thank you once again for taking such good care of us.
Christmas with my brother and sister in law
Restaurant was very hot! We moved into the bar and it was quite noisy and busy. Our server was very personable but the service was slow from both the bar and the food service.
Our family/party of 10 had a great time, good food, super ambience and an overall great time. We were seated at a big table in the bar so it was noisy, but that added to the frivolity. Thanks for a terrific memory!
Really great place for both company and family. Delicious food, friendly personnel and warm atmosphere
We were there on a not very (seemingly) busy Friday at 5:30 pm. Service was fairly quick however those providing the service weren't as friendly as I expected. Not enough smiles and conversation. Food was very good.
Awesome meal. Had a friend from Germany out for dinner. He said as good as any meal he had back home. Can't wait to return.
Fun time with family and friends before Kris Kringle market.
German cuisine served in a jaw-droppingly beautiful, historic building. The menu features classic favorites and updated fare like Mac and Cheese with Scallops (although, this is a dish that probably should not be on a German restaurant's menu). The food is absolutely delicious and the portions are huge. Service was attentive and very friendly. Their coffee was excellent (always the sign of a restaurant that cares about quality) and the apple strudel was a perfectly sweet ending. There's a reason that Mader's has survived 117 years. It's wonderful! I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone living in or visiting Milwaukee.
our dinner at Maders brought back fond memories for my 89 year old father. We celebrated Christmas with an afternoon dinner followed by a play at a downtown theater. Thank you Shannon for your wonderful service.
Great food the wine prices were very good We just love the place. We go there three to four times a year and each time is excellent.
We have been dining at Mader's for years. Every experience has been excellent in every way.
Mader's is the last quality German restaurant in Milwaukee. Everything on the menu is delicious and authentic I have never had a bad meal or experience I dine there every time I'm in Milwaukee and have recommended to many.
Always a great dinner
It has lost its former glory. Food was cold and tasteless. But the prices are still quite high.
Love the Valet parking service with friendly attendant. Arrived 15 minutes early and were seated immediately and a were greeted by two lovely servers. We had the Rueben Roll appetizer and Beef & Mushroom Strudel, the German Sampler, Wiener Schnitzel. Each dish was perfectly prepared and delicious. This special restaurant is a must visit if you are ever in Milwaukee. Old World Charm!
Been going to Maders for several years & have always had a good meal. This time both of us ordered hamburgers medium. I specifically said I wanted it pink. Both were charred & dried out. I’m not blaming the server but the cook should certainly have known the burgers were overdone.
The service was exceptional the food very good . The oxtail soup was excellent the sausage platter was divine. The wiener snitzel was tender . Classic German food the best Mileaukee has to offer . we would definitely done there again, We went to the Bucks game and could park for free just tipping the valet is a great idea.
Inattentive service, barely warm food. When asked for a “working pen” to sign credit card, server told us he had blue ink all over his leg from exploding pens. Disgusting comment! I expected more from this iconic restaurant. Only three tables in entire restaurant and 4 people at the bar!
Service was excellent. Rueben appetize very good. Had the Taste of Germany. Pork shank very good, sauerbraten needed more sauce, was very good when you got that sauerbraten taste but at time seemed like just eating a beef roast, smoke pork chop well cooked but not a lot of flavor - a ground mustard sauce to go with it would be great. I used the apple flavored sauce for the shank with the pork chop and it was good. Schnitzel was okay. Sides were good. Lot of food - plan on a take-home box. Overall, not a meal I would order again, okay to try once for the selection but a little pricey for the overall quality.
Great place for a date or birthday dinner! Wiener schnitzel was outstanding. Rouladen also great. We keep coming back every year!
We were a party of 5. Our server was enthusiastic and energetic but was clearly struggling to keep up. Our food was cold, the sauerbraten too tough to cut, the pork dry. The Wiener schnitzel would have been good if it were hot. At a 37.00 price it was very disappointing.
Service was slow. Food was lukewarm.
Wasn't what we had expected. The restaurant is very dated. Food was just ok for the pricing. Wait staff were polar opposites, one was very pleasant and helpful. The other, gruff and not very friendly. Had to keep repeating what we wanted to order as she kept asking, forgot? Have eaten at other german restaurants through out the U.S. and this would rank at the bottom of the list. Maybe it was an off night.
Mader's is the only true German Restaurant left in the city of Milwaukee. Fortunately it serves delicious food. The lunch menu offers salads and sandwiches as well as some favorite German entrees. The prices are moderate .
The service is outstanding and it is a restaurant where you can have a conversation with your table mates without having to raise your voice.
I love the complimentary valet parking in the lot next to the restaurant.
I highly recommend you try this restaurant. You won't be disappointed.
