Mader's German Restaurant
Not the same level of quality as in years past.
The food was delicious and plentiful. The staff was friendly and attentive! It was an exceeding enjoyable experience!
New Year’s Eve dinner
Maders is an annual tradition for our family. We always enjoy our meal and experience, but the food was even more exceptional this last time. They also renovated and it looks beautiful!
We really enjoyed the quality and selection if the the food. Perfectly prepared. The drink menu was especially tempting and well crafted. The Apple strudel was literally the best I’d ever eaten.
Good Food as always.......Service was amazing......
The only negative - there was a wedding party in the room adjacent to ours (no door on the room) and they were wandering in and out of our dining room and not wearing masks and not being quiet. I don't think the group was to be blamed, but the manager should not have allowed this situation to occur.
A very enjoyable dining experience.
Honestly it was a disappointment. We selected the restaurant to celebrate my husband’s 60th birthday. Our server and host were great, as were the surroundings but the food was tasteless and Luke warm. Prices are high and we expected better. Loved the giant pretzel but that was the only highlight of the food. Maybe just an off night but really thought food needed work
Our family has been coming here for generations and the food & ambiance have always been outstanding!
We had not been to Mader's in a number of years. It was everything we remembered and were very happy to be there again. It is a treasure of a place and we hope that it can continue on for many more years.
Very attentive service
I’m not a German food kind of person but I will certainly be back!
Maders is classic Milwaukee! Updated menu has more options than in the past and when you go here you can enjoy a classic German dining hall feel, but also there is a nice bar (with booths and bar counter) and outside patio, both with TV's so if you want to watch Sports it's great. Excellent and attentive service and the food is the best German food we have ever had (and we have been to Germany). We highly recommend Maders!!
Best German Restaurant in the Midwest. Had the German Sampler and everything was great. So full we couldn't eat dessert at Mader's, so they packed up the strudel for us to heat at home. Service is friendly and just the right amount of interaction.
Maders is truly a Milwaukee treasure. My family has been going there for generations, and it was nice to enjoy the authentic German cuisine and Old World ambiance with my daughter while we were in town. Staff was friendly, food was great, just like I remember. Definitely a must if you're in the area!
Great ambiance! The food and drinks were very good! Amberly was very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu, and knew exactly what to recommend for us.
We got there a bit early for our reservation, and they seated us right away.
We will be back next year!! Highly recommend the Rouladen and the German Sampler. The Rheinischer Sauerbraten was phenomenal!!
First off I want to say the food was great, we had the Reuben rolls which were delicious as was the rest of the meal. However we just didn’t feel comfortable in this place due to the lack of social distancing and laissez faire attitude of some staff relating to wearing masks. The maitre’d (who was wearing a full respirator mask) wanted to initially sit us in a booth in a very busy bar area with every booth occupied and customers sitting literally back to back. When we asked to be more socially distanced he managed after a few minutes to find another table in the smaller dining area which was properly distanced although in a main thoroughfare to the restrooms. However what concerned us was that a number of key staff such as the barman ( a tall dark haired guy who made our drinks )and a blonde male member of the waiting team either weren’t wearing a mask or had at times their mouth and nose uncovered. The blonde guy coughing as he walked by our table. Several other diners were seen wandering around the restaurant again all without masks and without staff asking them to wear one. Coupling this with slow service and for reasons of safety we wouldn’t recommend this place. Which is a shame as the food was great!
Great service. Always fun!
Always a must when visiting MKE-the giant pretzel!!
Great authentic German cuisine and beer . The strudel is the perfect dessert after the meal
The best German food outside of Germany. I had the Rouladen and my companion had the Pork shank. Wunderbar!!!
Visiting and was my grandfather’s favorite place here.
This is a must-dine spot when in Milwaukee. Food, service and atmosphere were all top-notch. I cannot recommend this establishment highly enough. Standout items include the gigantic soft pretzel and the veal schnitzel with king crab.
The Sauerbraten was phenomenal! Definitely going there again when I visit Milwaukee! My grandmother recommended it and I really enjoyed myself!
Excellent service. Food was very good but a bit salty. Definitely will go back.
During an infrequent to Milwaukee (from Denver) we definitely wanted German food. Mader's seemed to be rated the best. We were not disappointed; the food was terrific, a pork shank, mushroom strudel, potato pancakes and Hofbrau beer. This was deep in the COVID scare, so downtown Milwaukee and Mader's was pretty empty, which affected the ambiance, but nothing else.
The food was disappointing. There were only five tables at lunch so the chef could have made sure the food was perfectly executed.
Great food & outdoor seating atmosphere!
Excellent service!!!
Wonderful experience, 3 of us all ordered the German Sampler. Service excellent and good beer choices.
Mader's has a long way to go. My experience was terrible! Waiter lacked proper training. He rushed us through the entire meal. We order salad, main course and wine. Salad came. Three minutes later, the main course arrived. I got only two bites of my salad before I had to deal with it. Our wine didn't show up until our main course had arrived.
The main course was wholly un-appetizing. No seasoning, way over cooked and had no taste was the meat.
Our water glasses were never refilled. I had to give mine to my friend. After the check arrived, the waiter never came back! I could have not paid and no one would have been the wiser.
Wonderful evening! Delicious food and perfectly attentive service from Jackie! She made sure our evening was terrific!
Hope to be back soon!
Excellent on tap Spaten Optimator! Delicious potato pancakes, wonderful authentic German food and a hot fresh baked strudel for desert. Don’t miss this one. Worth the price -
Great Best German food around.
I went here as a recommendation of my Father that had been here as a child. It looks just as iconic and classy as it has ever. The service was great and we were seated at a table that Bob Hope had dined at. The food was very fresh and delicious. The only thing I would say is that the portions are enormous and can be shared to cut down on waste and leftovers. We stayed at a hotel so we didn’t want leftovers and we split the Rhine platter and an appetizer (and a soup for my son) which was plenty.
Lovely restaurant!! The Reuben appetizer was so good!
Fabulous food and service.
Had an absolutely marvelous dinner at Mader's with two friends. Service and food were outstanding!
We were celebrating our son's birthday so we chose a special occasion place. When i made the reservation, i indicated that we were celebrating. Not sure if anything would've been done if I hadn't mentioned it to our server.
She took very good care of us, was very friendly and was able to help with our food selection, understanding that we have some dietary restrictions. We enjoyed our meals, a chicken dish, veal and a vegetarian option. The beer drinkers enjoyed their beer and i enjoyed my wine. Had the reuben rolls as an appetizer and an amazing piece of strudel for dessert.
