This classic German restaurant has authentic old world food. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was interesting, but the service was a little slow. Don't expect to get in and get out fast here. Sit back and enjoy your surroundings.
Seated 10 minutes before reservation. Brunch was outstanding. Tenderloin cheese omelette was perfect.
Food better than ever!
It was so good. I had the duck strudel and I was delicious.
Just celebrating a wonderful restaurant that my family has gone to for many years.
Great quiet eating establishment. Went for the first time with wife and we both had a great time and the pork shanks are to die for.
Been there several times but not sure I would go again. The last two times we went the parking lot was full. We had to skip the dinner the first time but this time we were dining with another couple who did get in the parking lot. Because there was a special event going on, we parked two blocks away and had to pay $20. When we got back to the restaurant, the lot had opened up. I was not happy and it set the mood for the evening. Also, we had two gift cards and told the waitress to take so much off each card so that we (both couples) could use them again. The balance from one card was used completely with the balance on one card only. If they were not able to do it that way, we should have been told. Again, not happy.
The food was very good and the pre fixe menu was a great value.
The traditional German food was great, just like grandma used to make.
Their venture into New England Clam Chowder was not successful. It was thin and tasted of fish. They should try an appetizer made with North Sea Brine Shrimp.
Wunderbar! As authentic as it comes in the US. Large portions and a wide variety. A long time favorite.
Server. appeared unhappy which deflated the mood. She was very efficient.Otherwise great food as usual
We have never been disappointed at Mader's. Our guests had veal schnitzel and I had the Hungarian goulash. The Reuben rolls were outstanding.
Everything was excellent. Food was great, service was excellent. The server was very knowledgeable and helpful. Will definitely come back.
Excellent German food, great atmosphere and staff.
A fun place to experience once, definitely good for grabbing drinks and a giant pretzel, but the food was fairly disappointing and it's very expensive for what it is (especially if you've experienced real German food in Germany).
The food was amazing. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu, especially about the beer. I had one of the best German meals and best beers ever. The only downside was that my reservation made through OpenTable, they had no record of it. I do not know if that was a fail on the part of Open Table, or the restaurant. My table included a professional chef in fine dining, and we all agreed we will be there when we are in Milwaukee next year.
I'm not much of a German foodie BUT this was incredible. The fresh and warm pretzel was AMAZING as well as the entree and waitress. Lovely pregame before the Buck's game.
We came to the restaurant after a show. We arrived a half hour early and were seated right away. Our service was very good. Our waiter was very attentive and very helpful in helping us with questions regarding different meals as we had never been there before. My husband actually tried his first German dish and really liked it. I also enjoyed my meal. Would go back again.
New Year’s Eve Celebration
This is a Must Do when visiting Milwaukee!
Waiter was very casual, almost lazy. Everything else was top notch.
This is a Milwaukee gem and a must see restaurant. The service was fantastic and I love the decor. The food is authentic and I love drinking beer form a boot. A great experience.
Everything was great except there was this arctic blast that came through the main dining room from the front door when it opened. My calves were frozen. They did move us, however, some one else was the unlucky person to sit there. They need to build a barrier during the winter to prevent that draft. Everything else was outstanding!!!!
Dining before a sporting event. Had reservations and still needed to wait to be seated. Dining room very full so decided to be seated in the bar - very small booths. Sat at bar instead with nice but possibly newer bartender. Service was slow, food came not all at once and not complete and needed to ask for plates, napkins, utensils. The food at Mader's was delicious, as usual!
Great food and ambience. We truly enjoy the German atmosphere. What a treat to enjoy a great meal. We love the Ruben rolls and sauerbraten with red cabbage.
After theater dinner.
Great food. It's nice to find a German restaurant that has more than just Bavarian favorites. The pork shank was outstanding.
THE FOOD AND SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT. THE SERVERS WERE VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE MENU AND HISTORY OF THE RESTAURANT.
We live in the San Francisco Bay Area and have limited choices for German food. It was a treat to dine at Mader's and enjoy the authentic German dishes that we love! The wiener schnitzel was delicious...not too heavy and perfectly prepared! Everyone in our party was very pleased with their meals. We enjoyed looking at the photos of notable people and memorabilia that decorate the restaurant; it was a very enjoyable dining experience.
Overpriced for mediocre food. False advertising in their menu - offer Wienerschnitzel but it is pork schnitzel - $5 more for the real Wienerschnitzel. The spaetzle was totally bland & lukewarm to cold. The veal was hot & tasty. The red cabbage was very uneven. Ordered liver dumpling soup - never received it as the server just brought the entrees & then informed us that they were out of the soup - totally ridiculous on a Sat night at 6:30 & they are out of soup. Said they were making some more - would we like to wait??? Was it coming out of a can?? Last time I was there was over 20 years ago & the service & food was horrible. Nothing has changed. Total waste of money.
Overall this was a very nice dinner in a real nice atmosphere, a must see place. I will be back, two thumbs up.
Food was delicious, great value, BUT according to to Maders, when I arrived at the restaurant they never received my reservation. This site APPEARED to reserve my wife and I a table BUT according to Maders, they never received it. We ended up sitting at the bar.
Our waitress and food were very good. This was a Wednesday night before Thanksgiving so it was not very busy. I was disappointed to find many burned out light bulbs and the glasses above the bar were extremely dirty... the whole place needs a good dusting and new lighting, the CFL bulbs are terrible.
Just a warning: It’s A LOT of food!!
Which isn’t a bad thing!!
I wanted German food in a German town and that’s what I got!!
Had a great time!
Will definitely return!!
Good restaurant. As a traveler, I wish I could see menu with pictures or more detail information.
Great German food and great German beer! I come here anytime I am in Milwaukee.
They have been the German place to to go in town for many years. Always plenty to eat and great service!!!!
Came in for dinner before a show and had very high expectations given this place's history. But we left with nothing really positive to talk about. Food and service were acceptable but nothing to write home (or in a review) about. We had two entries and a salad. Salad was swimming in a salty bacon dressing so a bad start. Pork schnitzel was no where near as good as others we had had. Chicken filet was also fine but not impressive. Summary: meal was a lot of money for simple Germany food that wasn't all that great.
Great Sunday Brunch. Great service. Nice selection of foods
Reunion before wedding plus 2 birthdays.
Always wonderful! Still the best!
