We had a 5 o'clock reservation and were seated right away - quiet corner right along side of the fireplace. It was nice and cozy and quiet. Food was excellent - we love the lobster bisque! Service was excellent.
We have been there before and will be going again.
To give a little background, my husband and I used to go to Madeline's often when it was located in Orwigsburg. We absolutely loved going there. After the fire it was our understanding that the owners separated to open both the new Madeline's in Fogelsville and the train station restaurant in Tamaqua. We have been to the train station several times and when we heard fogelsville was open we put it next on our list to try. I have been to the new Madeline's twice now. My husband and I have tried the scallops, jumbo prawn, elk, and several appetizers. The food is absolutely fantastic. The reason we aren't thrilled to go back are due to two things: service quality and value/portions for price. Both times we went to Madeline's we were seated right away, however both times we waited for several minutes before anyone even acknowledged our presence at the table. We also received appetizers before we even got our drinks from the bar. So there seems to be a disconnect in communication between the hostess/wait staff/bar staff/ and the servers who actually bring the food out. The other thing I will mention are the small portion sizes. We have no problem paying for quality, however the portions served here seem disproportional to the elevated prices. We almost always leave a restaurant with a take home bag, but the servings here are small and honestly my husband was still hungry after we went home. We will continue to visit the train station instead simply due to the combination of quality and value. So to sum it up, your food is fantastic and delicious, constructive criticism would be to monitor the flow of service a little better, and also to offer some more "bang 4 ur buck" in value.
Madeline's needs to decide what it wants to be, high end or pub food. It probably would be better suited to focus on pizzas, sandwiches, etc. The ambience in the dining rooms in no way warrants $30-$40 a plate dinners. Lighting reminded me of being in an all you can eat buffet place. Bar area, where we ate, was loud and again, you are eating a $30 piece of salmon and have TVs in your face.
Stuffed mushrooms are fantastic, lobster bisque good, salads fresh. A few problems tonight. Salad mixup, pork chop good flavor but not hot, carrots too al dente. I agree with a previous reviewer, pomo sangria not sweet. Staff comp'd the chop. Thank you. Will have to give restaurant another chance.
Beautiful restaurant. Food is tasty with a good variety of choices. Servers do a great job even when busy. Prime Rib has been the only entree that is not consistent -- one time it is fantastic, next time fatty and lacking taste.
Staff was friendly and attentive. I would consider their staff some of the best I've had. The only issue with the whole night was my wife's steak. Although it was done perfectly it was a little tasteless to be honest. Everything else we ate was excellent.
Food was amazing. Service was great and quick. Will definitely be back!!! Extremely satisfied!!
Valentine’s Day dinner... great wine glass and bottle selection. Nice job with surf and turf! Thought the smaller Valentine’s Day menu had a good selection to choose from. All in all it was a nice evening. Thank you!
Service was good. The cheese board was very disappointing for the price. Main meal was par for a Valentines dinner, good but not a knock your socks off good. Desert was also disappointing for the price as was the unintentional cold coffee with Baileys ($10.00/cup).
We were celebrating Valentine’s Day a day early. We had a reservation, however, it appeared we may not have needed one based on how empty the restaurant was on a Thursday night. The restaurant is aesthetically pleasing and the staff was very nice as well. I ordered the Lobster Bisque and the chicken Marsala. The soup was just so so. The chicken Marsala was tasty though the chicken was a bit overcooked. My husband ordered the chicken cordon blu and he didn’t get what he ordered. He just got plain chicken. So we had to wait for them to make the correct meal. He said it was just ok. They did make up for it by providing us with free dessert. We chose the Oreo cake which wasn’t that great either. It was a nice enough place but not somewhere I just have to visit again.
It was our first time at Madeline’s. We loved the food and the atmosphere. Our server was friendly and attentive. We will be back!
So glad you decided to dine at Madeline's! Thank you for your review, we are so happy you enjoyed everything! We'll see you again soon.
Our server, Grace, was great. My liver however there way TOO much gravy; couldn’t even see where the meat was.
Came in with some friends to give it a try. Heard some good things and some eh things. It was mediocre at best. Nothing great. But also nothing bad. I was the only one to get an actual drink other then beer and soda as the rest of my group got. I got the pomegranate sangria. It was not good (again not bad, but not good). It was actually really sour. Appetizers... were good. Our group enjoyed the apps we got... calamari (small portion), oysters, and escargot (nice portion). Two of us had the lobster bisque. It was ok. Tastes like it was missing something. (Side note- getting the bisque was a $2 up charge from the entree that we were not told about nor is it mentioned in the menu.) After this we got some raspberry sorbet as a palate cleanser. This was a pleasant surprise. Entrees- Here is where it really gets blah. I had the seafood strudel. It was ok but nothing spectacular. It was actually dry initially but was better once the waitress brought more of the sauce it was sitting on. the shrimp in the dish were way overcooked. I also got the special veggies which were good. (Chipotle cilantro mashed and battered asparagus... both good.) My husband and one of our friends got the meatloaf Wellington. Portion size was very small. It looked like it was just thrown on a plate. The meatloaf was some what mushy. The fries my husband got as a side were overcooked. Our other friend got the seared tuna appetizer as her meal. It came out and just looked blah. There was no sauce. She asked for soy sauce and the waitress brought a sweet sticky sauce that was not good. She then brought soy sauce which improved the dish. We didn't try any desserts. The service was average. Our friends got a weird vibe from the waitress who did seem to favor my husband and I who are Caucasian.
Great food and service. Brunch is awesome also!
Thank you for your review, Michelle! So glad you enjoyed brunch at Madeline's
Food was delicious and a good value. Large menu with a great array of choices. Upscale but relaxed in every way. A great addition for the area!
Glad to hear that you enjoyed the food and atmosohere at Madeline's. Thank you for the review!
This was the most bizarre dinner experience for two adults. First, we were seated in a charmless back room with two other families with kids ranging 3-14, despite ample room in the main (quite pretty) dining area. I was amazed there is only one vegetarian meal available, with the exception of a pizza or a salad. And it is a Beyond Burger, which is an incredibly lazy choice to offer a frozen patty. My husband had the generously sized but utterly bland and unseasoned crab cakes. When my "burger" arrived our server says "oh by the way there is no bun, I hope that's ok"...which should be on the menu or mentioned ahead I think. We ordered two apps, the fried cheese wonton and the lobster bisque for my husband, both tasty. These items arrived, were eaten, and cleaned away when our server came back twice to ask us if we would like our lobster bisque and cheese now, because they were ready. Incredibly bizarre. We will not be back.
Really love the place I rated it 5 stars because as a restaurant designer they designed the place for exactly what you get . A warm comfy home like feel with great food and service . It was excellent and I will be back to eat at the bar !
We were disappointed when we went there for dinner. The dining room was small with not a single decoration in the room and a giant television at one end (thank goodness it wasn’t turned on). The green paint around the room was chipped from chairs hitting it. We went in slacks and sweaters but other people in the room were in flannel shirts, sweatshirts and jeans.
It is almost like the restaurant hasn’t decided what wants to be. We were a party of two and one of the entrees they first brought out was the wrong thing. It was corrected after we told them of the error. The crab cake tasted fishy and the scallops were not totally cooked. All the “sides” came in separate dishes, which was weird since there was a single crab cake with an edible flower on one side of a huge plate and nothing on the other side. Then the baked potato (not totally cooked through) and the cole slaw came out in separate dishes. Same thing for the veggies that came with the scallops. One of the people at the table next to us was unhappy with their dinner also. It struck me as a little strange when the busser, who was clearing tables, sat down at one and proceeded to scrape the plates and dump all the water left in glasses into one glass. I felt like I was in diner!
They served a palate cleanser of lemon sorbet and the menu has entrees that lead you to believe it is one sort of restaurant, but the food quality and ambience seemed to indicate a different type of restaurant.
We had previously enjoyed a lunch in the bar area and would do so again, but will not return for dinner. I truly hope that Madeline's improves and settles on what type of restaurant it is. The building itself is lovely and there is plenty of parking.
Food was very good. A little pricey. Service was great.
Sat in a room with nothing on the walls. Not that it matters when going out to eat, but someone should look at the decor. Room was also a little too bright.
Other patrons with cells phones were lacking manners. (like everywhere these days)
Most important thing was the service & food. We'll definitely go back.
I love that they have oysters on the 1/2 shell, the one's I had Saturday were very small, our server said they were from VA. A few weeks before the oysters were from New England I think they were called Snow Kiss, they had to be the best oysters I ever had, bring them back!
We had a wonderful dinner!
I ordered the duck. Was pretty dry and gave all indications of being frozen. I can understand that, as it would be difficult to keep such a seldom ordered entree fresh on hand. May I suggest more gravy or some such to make it more palatable. The wife's fish was very good.
We enjoyed the atmosphere of Madeline’s and the food was good. The food would have been better though, if it was hot when it was served to us. The baked potato was so cold, it wouldn’t even melt the butter. And it wasn’t only one plate of food. It was all four of us.
We had an absolutely wonderful dinner. Service was amazing. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the extensive menu and super friendly. The food was so delicious and we will definitely be coming back.
The food was solid but not exceptional. I had the beef short rib which was cooked fine and the mashed potatoes were excellent. The salad was fresh but was virtually only green with an above average balsamic vinaigrette. The side broccoli came with onion and reeked of them. The server said they had broccoli as a side but never mentioned onions. Who pairs broccoli and onions. I had her remove it from the table because it smelled so bad. My wife had the fluke special which said was excellent and looked to be perfectly cooked. The lemon cake for dessert was one of the best I ever had and my wife enjoyed her tiramisu. The beer selection was lacking.
As far as service besides the misrepresentation of the broccoli it was very intrusive. Besides the waitress checking and making sure everything was okay a manager (Patrick) came by to introduce himself as the manager while we were eating and conversing and lingered for far too long. Then another person came and interrupted our meal to check on things. Also as we were seated the server came to take our drink orders before we could even see the list.
The place itself looks cheesy on the outside but inside it well appointed but had a chain restaurant feel.
I might try it again to see if it is better another day.
Discovered Madeline’s Sunday brunch a few weeks back. First experience was really great. So good that we decided to go back. Unfortunately our second visit was not nearly as enjoyable. We ordered almost exactly the same things. However the
We enjoy Madeline's and go there frequently. Service is always excellent. The coffee is very good. This time we ordered Chicken Piccata and the Meatloaf Wellington. They were very tasty and we were very happy with our entree choices. A minor suggestion would be to serve the Meatloaf Wellington with a bit more of the demi-glaze as it was so good and really enhanced the meal.
The food was GREAT! Everyone LOVED their entrees. And the appetizers too! Yummmm!
Fried oyster lettuce cups with tangly Asian slaw were phenomenal. Meatloaf Wellington with bacon cheddar mashed delicious. And let's not forget the Black Manhattan.
Delicious fresh food, melts in your mouth! Creative side dishes- Broccoli with cheddar beer sauce, bacon cheddar mashed potatoes, red wine pear butter delicious on homemade warm rolls.
No one who ordered something that should come out hot had hot food. French fries and broccoli were cold and burgers barely warm.
Madeline's was recommended to us by a co-worker of my wife. We were seated immediately without a wait. Our waitress was quick to take our drink orders and received them fairly quickly. We were impressed by the variety on the menu as well as some interesting items on the seasonal menu. We enjoyed our "Boom-Boom" type of shrimp appetizer which we split. My wife had a tossed salad which was a standard side salad, but the mango vinaigrette was different and very good. I had soup du jour which was bison tortellini soup and was very good. My wife had the crab cake and I went with a braised short rib for dinner. Both were excellent. Only negative from my wife is that she thought the crab cake smelled a little "fishy." She really likes crab cakes and said the flavor waste great, but smelled a little fishier than others she's had. My only negative comment would be that after dinner we were not offered to look at the dessert tray, an after dinner drink, or coffee/tea. So we headed to the bar for another drink and carrot cake to go and we split chocolate cake at the bar. As we had our drinks we noticed our waitress leaving with her coat on, shift must've ended. It's too bad, she would've had another $10 in tip since her service was good.
This was our first time at Madeline's and we were very impressed. Our waitress, Shannon was marvelous. The drinks were excellent as well as the food. We will definitely be going back
First time visit, very good but seats too close to kitchen
Our dinner at Madeline’s was one f our top outings ever. Everything was outstanding from cocktail to dessert. We could not have had a more enjoyable anywhere else. Everyone from our arrival to our departure made us feel like we were the only ones there. We will be back again. Also, is the any chance of making a reservation for next New Years Eve? We would like the same waitress, Kait.
Thanks again for a very enjoyable evening.
Lovely NEW YEARS EVE DINNER. We have been patronizing Madeline’s since the opening, and are seeing continuous improvement since you opened. Keep up the good work!
Went there for New Year's Eve on a suggestion from a trusted friend. Service was great, friendly staff, very attentive. Food was terrific. I had the pan seared Elk. My wife had crab cake. My friend raved about the bar and cocktails, so I was expecting so much better. It was my only disappointment. I had o return my drink because an obvious ingredient was left out. It was immediately corrected, and would not stop me from returning.
It was a busy night, how we the service and the food was amazing. Will definitely return!
Loved my horseradish
Excellent choice recommended by daughter.
Will definitely be back soon.
