Mad Fox Brewing Company Ratings and Reviews
We've had plenty of great visits, but this was terrible and nothing of what I expect at Mad Fox. It was the day of Santa visiting, so I'll give some leeway in timing/service due to the crowds but this feel short of any basic expectations for service. Food was ordered and beers delivered. Our son's food came out after about a half hour maybe, which was excessive for just pita and hummus requiring next to no work other than plating. The rest of the adult entrees we were told to be "coming up soon" after 45 minutes, then again at one hour, and at 1.25 hours were told that the server had "talked to her manager". Those were the only times we saw our waitress post-ordering, and we didn't see her moving through our section with any regularity. Also by this point the area was significantly less crowded, with many open tables, so it wasn't like the dining area was still a madhouse. Finally went and told the manager (since the server was generally AWOL) at 1.5 hours after our food was ordered that things were ridiculous and that we'd pay for our beers and our kid's lunch, but otherwise to cancel our order so we could get out of there and grab something to eat elsewhere. He apologized, canceled our tab, took the blame, and wanted to follow-up later, but this was overall horrible. I expect some delay during a busy event, but to not bring any food out is ridiculous. Mind you our orders were not complicated: a burger, eggs benedict, and huevos rancheros, so nothing should have taken that long to cook once it made it to the cooks. Going to be a while before we decide to go back, especially if there appears to be any event since it seems the kitchen and waitstaff can't handle a rush. So the food is 1/5 since there's no option to leave it blank (even though we didn't get anything to eat in the end) and the same for value.
We have frequented the Falls Church location of this restaurant for years. This was the best meal we have ever had there, despite the fact that the restaurant was very busy. It was Thanksgiving Eve. I had fish tacos which were exquisitely fresh (made with Atlantic Cod). Our friend had the meatloaf and could not stop praising it. Our son had a burger and my husband had the schnitzel: both happy. We also had the amazingly inventive Thanksgiving appetizer. Homemade sweet potato tater tots, stuffing balls and more. It was delicious. Our server was great. We could tell he was busy, but he always stayed in communication, which is appreciated. We love your pizzas and often order those, but these meals were so good, it will be a tough choice next time what to order.
Stopped in for a lunch on a Saturday. Sat in the bar area, had good "energy", plenty of people, tv had football playing, so good atmosphere for a casual lunch. We ordered the Mediterranean dish for an app -- the eggplant dip was delish; the hummus just ok, as was the bread used to dip. We split a chicken salad sandwich and we were both very pleased with the taste (good flavor) and consistency (no "weird" chicken parts). Fries arrived late, but they were good and hot, which made the lateness OK. Would go back for sure!
The beer menu was a lot of fun, and I got the tasting flight -- four four-ounce pours. My husband ordered a dark and stormy, which came in a copper mug. I guess there's nothing wrong with that, it's just not typical.
My husband and I shared the chicken liver mousse as an appetizer -- you get a LOT for your money, as it was a huge amount of mousse, but was served with only four small pieces of focaccia. The server brought more bread and overcompensated by a LOT. Sadly, the liver mousse itself was bland. No worries thought, because our meals arrived before either of us had taken a second helping of it.
My husband ordered the wedge salad with a crab cake (add a crab cake for the same price as adding a piece of chicken, what??), and enjoyed it -- the bacon was nice and smokey. I ordered the fish tacos and enjoyed them, but would have preferred the fish were grilled or baked, not fried.
The outdoor area looks great, and had it been just a few degrees warmer, we might have sat outside. I'm looking forward to going back when the weather gets warm again.
Another great lunch with former LM colleagues at Mad Fox! Everyone enjoys our lunches at Mad Fox and continue to insist I schedule our lunches at Mad Fox in future. I have regularly changed the scene so attendees don't get bored with going to just one restaurant but Mad Fox always bets the best reviews. Thanks for special set up (square tables). Made our conversation much more possible than one long rectangle. And thanks for turning down the music so our folks with hearing loss don't get left behind. See you again soon!
I was disappointed that the grilled chicken was so overcooked and dry that I needed a steak knife to cut it. The accompanying salad had virtually no dressing and the croutons were hard as rocks. My companion's burger was about as rare as any I have ever seen, and she did not ask for rare prep. In short, I won't be planning on a return visit.
We had a child in the group with several food allergies. Although this restaurant came up when you search for gluten free friendly, they really didn't get the nuances of dealing with someone with multiple allergies. The server seemed very confused. The chicken kabob was dry, the fish tacos had very small pieces of fish drowning in slaw, and the grilled meatloaf was nearly inedible. The fried pickles were great. More like a place to go for beer and appetizers.
