Mad Fox Brewing Company Ratings and Reviews
Stopped in for a lunch on a Saturday. Sat in the bar area, had good "energy", plenty of people, tv had football playing, so good atmosphere for a casual lunch. We ordered the Mediterranean dish for an app -- the eggplant dip was delish; the hummus just ok, as was the bread used to dip. We split a chicken salad sandwich and we were both very pleased with the taste (good flavor) and consistency (no "weird" chicken parts). Fries arrived late, but they were good and hot, which made the lateness OK. Would go back for sure!
The beer menu was a lot of fun, and I got the tasting flight -- four four-ounce pours. My husband ordered a dark and stormy, which came in a copper mug. I guess there's nothing wrong with that, it's just not typical.
My husband and I shared the chicken liver mousse as an appetizer -- you get a LOT for your money, as it was a huge amount of mousse, but was served with only four small pieces of focaccia. The server brought more bread and overcompensated by a LOT. Sadly, the liver mousse itself was bland. No worries thought, because our meals arrived before either of us had taken a second helping of it.
My husband ordered the wedge salad with a crab cake (add a crab cake for the same price as adding a piece of chicken, what??), and enjoyed it -- the bacon was nice and smokey. I ordered the fish tacos and enjoyed them, but would have preferred the fish were grilled or baked, not fried.
The outdoor area looks great, and had it been just a few degrees warmer, we might have sat outside. I'm looking forward to going back when the weather gets warm again.
Another great lunch with former LM colleagues at Mad Fox! Everyone enjoys our lunches at Mad Fox and continue to insist I schedule our lunches at Mad Fox in future. I have regularly changed the scene so attendees don't get bored with going to just one restaurant but Mad Fox always bets the best reviews. Thanks for special set up (square tables). Made our conversation much more possible than one long rectangle. And thanks for turning down the music so our folks with hearing loss don't get left behind. See you again soon!
I was disappointed that the grilled chicken was so overcooked and dry that I needed a steak knife to cut it. The accompanying salad had virtually no dressing and the croutons were hard as rocks. My companion's burger was about as rare as any I have ever seen, and she did not ask for rare prep. In short, I won't be planning on a return visit.
We had a child in the group with several food allergies. Although this restaurant came up when you search for gluten free friendly, they really didn't get the nuances of dealing with someone with multiple allergies. The server seemed very confused. The chicken kabob was dry, the fish tacos had very small pieces of fish drowning in slaw, and the grilled meatloaf was nearly inedible. The fried pickles were great. More like a place to go for beer and appetizers.
Mad Fox was amazing! I was able to reserve a large group on short notice (middle of the afternoon). They were very accommodating! The servers were friendly and polite. The food was outstanding! And, $5 flights on Sundays! Our group had a great Sunday afternoon!
When it first opened Mad Fox was delicious and fun. I'm not sure if there is new management or what but it's gone down hill. We went for a celebration of graduation. The meal for the kids took an hour and it was only cooked pasta. The waiter apologized and said that it was an order that went in after a large party. He did not offer any compensation or free drinks to keep us happy. All of us were displeased with our evening and wish we had picked a different restaurant.
We really enjoyed the Father's Day brunch. We were happy to see a bunch of families with small children. The buffet had something to offer everyone in our family, including our 2 small kids (ages 1 and 3). The restaurant was not super busy when we were there- 10:30 am- which we enjoyed. My husband and I both enjoyed an adult beverage. Service was attentive and friendly. Noise level was appropriate for the size of the crowd and we didn't feel bad when our kids made some noise. We'll return soon for more amazing food and beverages!
My husband and I are regulars at Mad Fox; for several years now. We saw something Saturday night that we'd never seen before - empty tables and idle wait staff. We quickly discovered the reason; the menu items had changed. As one example, no longer do they put their delicious burgers on traditional potato buns, they're now on thick white bread. Ah, no! There was a particular menu item (bacon jam) that my husband always enjoyed on his Mad Fox Burger but it is no longer offered. Unfortunately, this will be our last visit to this establishment. In the extremely tough business of restaurants, if you have a successful niche, don't change it. Residents in the DC region aren't very adaptable to change.
