Mad Boar Restaurant
Our aim is to provide you with memorable luncheon and dining experiences, great value and the kind of good times that will bring you back to The Mad Boar again and again.
Food was not very good. I first ordered the seafood combination platter, but they were out of shrimp at 5pm. I then changed my order to the pulled pork with a baked potato. They were out of potatoes.
One the food arrived, it was under cooked.
I will not be coming back.
Atmosphere was very nice. Our server, Sarah was very pleasant and although she had not been there long she was very helpful. Also, other servers were extremely eager to make sure that all needs were met during our visit. Food was amazing - salad bar was perhaps the best salad bar we have ever had. This is definitely one of our new favorites!
This will be the last time we go there. The food was NOT good. The pork (which they pride themselves on) was very dry. My crockpot pork would have been better. Also the service was not good very slow. Mashed potatoes were made with powder potatoes. For this price I would have expected real potatoes.
We made a 5:00 reservation and arrived 30 min early so we could get a drink in the bar. Were greeted and told to just come back to the host stand when we were ready to be seated in the dining room. Table in the bar was wobbly. Waitress never asked if we wanted a second drink. Had to track her down to close out our tab. Band was setting up and beating on the drum (not melodically—just beating the bass drum for some reason) repetitively. Never got to hear them play, just the clatter if them setting up. At 5:00 we returned to the host stand and they acted like they had never seen us. Score and had us sit amongst others who were now waiting to be seated. We waited for 15-20 minutes and the table we were taken to had food and trash underneath it from previous customers. I ordered a Reuben sandwich which had hardly any meat or coleslaw and no thousand island dressing. One side was soggy and the other was toasted. My husband ordered fried shrimp and catfish which he enjoyed but weren’t anything special. The waitress did her job but nothing outstanding. Would not return.
We have date night there a couple times a month. For the past few times we have gone there on Friday nights the food portions (prime rib) have been rather fatty and poorly seasoned. I hate to be negative but it was not enjoyable as it once was. The waiter was slow in refilling our tea and bringing back additional condiments we requested. Not much to choose from on sides now. Pretty much potato everything. The salads were fresh and we did enjoy those.
Best meal I've ever had there and i've been eating there for years. Prime rib special was awesome.
Excellent wait staff, great food and priced right. The Mad Boar has the best salad bar within a 50 mile radius. We enjoy eating at the Mad Boar as their food is the best in our area...there is nothing that can compare.
We enjoy the Mad Boar just about every week. They have a great Sunday Buffet that has superb variety. Their waitstaff are courteous and attend to your every need. The Mad Boar has a bar that is phenomenal and on the weekends have live entertainment. My wife and I hope to see you there.
Buffet was pretty good. Kids eat free with adult purchase of entree. So buffet doesn't count towards that. But the food was good and have a positive experience.
Service was excellent. Food served quickly. Steak was a little over cooked
Our service was great, but the food was just ok. There were 5 of us and this was the opinion of everyone. We drove over an hour and we were pretty disappointed.
Food was great.... ordered an appetizer and drinks. Drinks didn’t arrive until we had almost finished the appetizer. Waitress only came by to refill drinks once. I dropped my fork and my husband was almost finished with the meal before the waitress brought me another fork ( unwrapped ) waitress started cleaning table and I didn’t get to finish my meal. Boxed it and brought it home. Like I said food was great...... service sucked!
Wonderful dinner and evening with friends. Food was excellent
The restaurant itself is clean and the ambiance is great! Had been here once before and had a great experience, but went back with my family for my husbands birthday dinner and it was terrible. Our server only listened to the base line of our orders, so all of our food came out wrong, and only filled up drinks once. The food that did come out was not hot. The tortilla chips were like rubber and didn’t even break when you bit them, it seemed they had been microwaved. The Alfredo sauce was like water and had no flavor. We also ordered fried pickles that came out on a bed of lettuce and took on that flavor possibly from sitting. Needless to say for the price of the dishes and the drive time, I would not choose to go back here versus somewhere closer. I was super disappointed along with the rest of our party.
My wife and I drove nearly 50 miles just to have dinner at Mad Boar Wallace NC. We had already decided to have the BBQ Pork ribs and sausage links. When we tried to order we were told they were out of BBQ Pork ribs!!!! We couldn't believe our ears. We were there at 5:30 PM, not late at night when it might seem possible to be sold out of a particular item. It took us another 15 minutes to find alternatives which were OK but not what we wanted. Undeterred, we still plan to return but will make sure they have ribs before we drive the 50 miles again.
Made reservations for the Valentine’s Day special thinking it was overpriced but boy were we wrong. Every course was exceptional. I don’t even like steak but I’m so glad I did because it was like butter in my mouth. Extremely juicy and tender. The restaurant is beautiful and there was always someone asking if we needed anything. We definitely will be back.
Great experience. Wish we would’ve came a long time ago cause we will be back ASAP!
The hostess seemed to wish we were not there, the restaurant was not full she had a problem trying to seat us I don’t think she knew what she was doing the buffet had a lot of empty pans. We eat there every week probably will not return.
I brought my family to Mad Boar for the first time friday night, a party of 5. We were seated and our drinks were brought to us from our waitress. That was the best part of our experience. All down hill after that. We were brought individual packages of crackers (all different brands and were stale) and "cheese" wouldn't have known it was "cheese" if the waitress didn't tell us.....eww. My husband ordered Prime Rib, a baked potatoe, cole slaw and an add on of crab legs. The waitress brought out the Prime Rib, crab legs and cole slaw and said his baked potato would be right out. She brought it out 10 minutes later. By then the Prime Rib was cold and the POTATO WAS NOT FULLY BAKED..HARD! I also wouldn't recommend the crab legs unless you're not really hungry, they were so small I think they were from a hermit crab. I could go on about the rest of our meals but I think you can get the picture from what i have already told you. It wasn't busy in the restaurant section, but for some reason our waitress wasn't very attentive. She never cleaned the "cheese" and crackers from our table before bringing our Entrees. The meals were set on and around the mess from that. The waitress walked by our table a few times and never cleaned anything off or refilled drinks. All in all Mad Boar is definitely NOT a place i would return to or recommend to anyone!
Fabulous salad bar with a menu offering a good variety.
This is a pleasant restaurant, but service needs work. The food was pretty good, but two items we ordered never showed up. We cancelled them at the end. Wait staff is in need of training before then let them loose on customers. There is no dining room supervision/quality control.
Great place for casual dining. Gets busy at the usual meal times so make a reservation if you know you're going. Food choices are good. Always enjoy my meals at the Mad Boar.
This was an amazing first time visit! It’s 40 miles from home, but we shall definitely make a return visit! I’ve told so many people about it and recommended it too even more!
Did not meet my expectations. Prime rib was too small (10 oz). Not enough crab in the crab dip.
Got seated with no problems despite hostess not having reservation. She indicated that she had not checked online inputs. Did not seem well organized.
good food, great service. Awesome salad bar. Thanks everyone!
Always good food and always solid service. We eat there on a regular basis.
Beautiful restaurant building, good ambiance, pleasant and attentive wait staff. Menu looked good but I only had the salad bar. My guests spoke highly of the food quality.
Great food! Service was outstanding!!! Nice place for our group of 7.
Date night for hubby and me. Food was great. He said it was one of the best lamb meals! Good salad bar. Live music in the bar area was okay. Artist not great.
Great salad bar, service wasn't so great this time. Crab legs were cold. Not the normal, though, and we'll be back. Wine choices could be better.
The proteins were ok, but all of the sides (especially the vegetables) were canned or unhealthy
Stake was overcooked, had to send back 2 drink that the bartender did not mix right second bartender fixed no dinner rolls with meal spent $106.00 for only a ribeye and fries, and shrimp and fries plates not happy at all!!! Our server was great and understanding of our frustration feel free to call me about it 828 347 0643
Menu had eclectic choices. Waitress was inexperienced but, when asked, responded well. They were out of fish special but the salmon was good.
I spent 2 plus hours there with my fiancé. The food was tasty but I could get the same quality for far less at a chain restaurant in Wilmington. The service was so bad that while waiting to pay, I was able to leave, get gas across the street and come back and the payment still hadn’t been taken.
The atmosphere was great. The service was great. Both servers did a great job. The food was pretty good too
Went here on June 16th for our Anniversary and wasn’t disappointed one bit. Steak was hands down the best I’ve ever had, and that comes from someone who has dined at Ruth Chris’ a few times. Crab dip was amazing as was the Brussels sprouts (also the best I’ve never had). Definitely going back. If there was any complaint, it would be that the margarita (which was delicious) was way to small for paying $7.50 for it. It comes in a 12oz mason jar filled with ice cubes which leaves maybe 4-4 sips through a straw. But it was still amazing!
We should have believed the poor reviews and saved ourselves one hundred and forty dollars! The service was very very slow. Our waitress brought an appetizer with no plates. We had to ask for them three times. By the time she managed to remember them and get back to our table, the food was gone..eaten without plates. The food was not up to par. The "boar bites" were tough and cold, the steak was fatty and overcooked to the point of toughness, then covered in gravy. Everything had a bit of a charred flavor. The salmon was good though as were the parmesan mashed potatoes. The noise level was so high that we could not hear one another speaking across the table. (from the live music). The place itself was clean and pretty and with reservations we were seated right away. A shame though, it took more than an hour to get food. I'd steer clear of this Mad Boar for sure.
Sat in bar area on a Monday night. In our party, the pork tenderloin entree was good but would have preferred sauce on side . The Pork Chop entree was swimming in BBQ sauce and, though a good cut of meat ,was not seasoned with salt or pepper before cooking - so not so good.
The wine list really needs work - it was a big disappointment . Very mediocre wines.
Service was attentive.
Good food, good service! Glad we stopped in.
