About Macondo East
Located at 157 E. Houston Street, Macondo East brings you street food Latin Tapas. Macondo is young, fresh and hip. Named after the fictional village in Gabriel García Márquez “One Hundred Years of Solitude”, our Tapería Latina is a magical oasis bursting with downtown energy.
Our menu pioneers the Estilo Libre Latino (Freestyle Latino) cuisine, signature dishes created with the free spirit of being influenced by flavors and traditions from all over the Spanish-speaking world and yet still respecting its traditional base. We serve arepas from Venezuela, cocas from Barcelona, tacos from Mexico, ceviches from Peru, and churros con chocolate from Madrid. You may find "Macondo locals" enjoying a "porron", a fun way of drinking wine poured out of a traditional glass wine pitcher with a spout, raised high above the mouth.

Macondo East Ratings and Reviews
Amazing service every time! I have been coming here for close to 4 years for brunches, birthdays and more. Their brunch deal ($15 for 1.5 hours of mimosas) cannot be beat. Food is outstanding as well - we especially loved the cuban sandwich, the empanadas, arepas, and deli fries.
Over all I like this place. I am rating the service neutral because they called to confirm the reservation the day before at 11.30pm!! Additionally, they first tried to seat us at the end of a high table that already had 4 people sitting there because apparently the hald empty restaurant was booked. However, we were able to sit at the bar on the outside, so it was not to loud with the music and people on the inside. The bar service was a bit slow but ok, nothing extraordinary . What is super is their brunch special food is yummi and mimosas are unlimited for $15. The bad thing is it's only 1.5 hour and they are very strickt about it, wgich sucks, it used to be 2 hours, but they stop serving on the dot, they even mentionen that when confirming the reservation. Management should reconsider this, it comes off as ridgid. But I like the place, lovster grill cheese was delish!
Brunch was delicious and the overall atmosphere is fun and lively. However, servers were impatient, and rushed guests through the brunch. Additionally, there was no indication of a "$12 minimum" for food orders (which was only conditional to those ordering bottomless brunch).
Moreover, our server gave us lipstick stained drinking glasses, and did not apologise when we - politely -requested for a cleaner glass. She was rude and hasty with the food service, and approached us 3-4 times to leave the table for the next party, (who had not arrived until much later). I would not anticipate "prepping the next party's table" would take a considerable amount of time, as the table only seated a party of 4 and simply needed to be wiped down.
All in all, tasty brunch options, bright and aesthetically pleasing decor and fun vibe, but service could be better and pricing conditions for brunch could be more explicitly stated on the menu or explained to guests via phone when making the booking ahead of time.
My friend and I went to Macando East around 4PM on a Saturday. They allowed us to sit and have drinks and small tapas. According to their website and business hours, they begin serving dinner at 5 PM. Once 5 o'clock came around, we asked our waitress for a menu and she told us they were not serving dinner at the moment. Eventually, she allowed us to see and order from the menu at 5:40PM. Like what?! I've never experienced such a chaotic mess in the city.
Our server was very pleasant and when you do bottomless mimosas, they come and refill your glass quite often, so you're sure to get your money's worth. There was miscommunication between our server and a woman who took our order... I don't get why people take orders for tables that aren't theirs but that was the only weird thing. Other than that, delicious, and lovely!
Service was terrible. Everybody got their food except one and the waitress didn't even come by often to ask how things were and my friend got his food when everybody was finished with theirs. I can't believe they still demanded gratuity and already included in the check. I will be leaving review on yelp as well. They need some customer service training.
The staff was very nice and it's a nice place to stop for a drink. But I wouldn't come back for food. We ordered the cheeseburger for my nephew which looked like a greasy burger, pork belly tacos and ropa viejo empanadas. The tacos were pretty bland. I liked the freshness of the cucumbers but the pork was rubbery and tasteless. The empanadas were super greasy and the meat was stringy with little flavor. Overall the place is good for a drink with guac and chips but that's as far as i would go.
Good food. Their take on steak & eggs was unorthodox (clue: it comes in a bowl) but delicious. The atmosphere was nice, servers were friendly. We did the $15 unlimited mimosas with brunch. The drinks are not strong but they keep you topped up. They said it's 90min but last call is 15min before the end. That sounds like 75min to me but to be honest I don't think they enforced and we probably went over the time. Would do it again!
We wanted to order the whole menu! Our server was helpful with quantities to order, and recommendations for our group. Enjoyed tacos: pork was yummy and tuna in lettuce leaf was a nice twist. Empanadas were also good, patatas bravas were crunchy and just enough spicy. They were out of brussel sprouts, which we wanted to try. Gnocchi surprisingly good!
Sangria was not worth the price for a carafe (mostly ice) - would go with a bottle of wine or cava next time. And we will be back to try the rest of the menu!
Came to Macondo on Saturday for brunch. It wasn't my first time since the food is always good. I usually order the bottomless mimosas for 1.5 hours, but on Saturday I was informed that I'd have to make my last drink order 15 minutes before the end time. In that case, don't advertise bottomless mimosas for 1.5 hours when it's really an hour and change. I just didn't care for that at all.
I always like the food at Maconda East - have been there three times. I usually get the tamarind tequila cocktail and it is always really good. we got a carafe this time and it was all juice and hardly any tequila. that's my only complaint. service was wonderful and the food is always delicious. Taco Tuesday deal is really good!
I went during the weekend around 7pm. The menu was a bit confusing, but I managed to pick empanadas, which were very good. I also ordered chicken tacos, but they lacked in flavor. They provided sauces, however, none of them were good.
I would recommend going only for the bar area and for the music.
Great find from the Oracle of Yelp. This was a very pleasant surprise for my wife and I and some friends. Fantastic menu and tasty cocktails (try the mango and gin). Drink service can be slow when it's busy - they could use another bartender to keep up with the crowds. But an overall gem that left our group incredibly sated and satisfied.
Wonderful Service as Alexandro and Staff were extremely accommodating. Brunch is fabulous as the food selection is extraordinary, and various tasty unlimited mimosa. In a great location, fabulous environment, Kitchen and preparation of food visible with a unique ambiance. Wonderful place for an friends or mature outting, date, or casual business meeting.
Loved it, I was told 2 hours for bottomless on the phone though and it ended up being 1.5 hours. I'd be fine if we were told 1.5 hours at the beginning cause it was busy. But to be told something different in person as compared to what I heard on the phone was kind of disappointing
My husband and I had a great time. Food was delicious - we had the ceviche and fish tacos. The specialty drink of the night was delicious (vodka with fresh crushed blueberries and mint). Our server Ray was so attentive, helpful and nice. We really had a good time. I've already been back with my sister and she loved it.
Though there are a lot of rules for brunch (like how you get 1.5 hours of bottomless mimosas, and that starts the minute that your reservation stars) it actually was much less strict than I anticipated after multiple phone calls with the restaurant.
We had 2 friends who were running late with suitcases. They accommodated us by seating us when the majority of us had arrived, and they also put the suitcases aside for our friends once they did arrive. Given the fact that we were a party of 12, it was surprising that they didn't give us more trouble!
The kitchen closes at 4pm after brunch and before dinner, but they easily took our order and got us our food even though we arrived right at 4pm. We were served a lot of mimosas. We didn't really get our pick of which flavors (all of which weren't the traditional orange juice flavor too), but each one was delicious and they did come frequently to refill our glasses.
The actual food was really good. I got the huevos rancheros and loved it. Other hits were the carne with polenta and the chilaquiles. Not to mention, they were a lot more accommodating than they had implied from my phone calls leading up to this reservation.
We'll be back!
$15 1.5 hr bottomless brunch with 3 delicious flavors of mimosas. Great brunch food that's a delicious twist on the favorites without being the same thing you can get everywhere else. Waitress was very nice and friendly, even though we were a big group. This is the second time we've been here and both times the experience was perfect.
