Macon Bistro & Larder is a locally owned neighborhood restaurant serving re-invented bistro cuisine in a warm, friendly atmosphere. Tony Brown, inspired by his southern roots and his world travels, brings together the cooking styles of Macon, Georgia, and Macon, France. We have recently opened The Magnolia Room at Macon to accommodate more diners during dinner time. The Magnolia Room at Macon is located down the hall from Macon in the Chevy Chase Arcade on the left hand side and affords guests a more intimate and spacious dining experience. Depending on volume during peak dining times, your reservation may be seated in The Magnolia Room, offers the same great food and service.

                                Pretty tasty. Appetizers took a while to get there, and the fried green tomatoes were a little tough. Biscuits were delicious as always, and hush puppies were good. My tuna nicoise was mostly well done, but the tuna was a little tough and stringy. Plus, they somehow hadn’t renewed their alcohol license, so they were dry, which is odd for a bistro that prominently features a bar. Seemed par for the course at Macon, which has had some major service issues. But overall it was a better experience than others we’ve had there in the last 5-7 years.

                                I made a 7:45 reservation and we were told we needed to order as the kitchen was closing at 8 pm. That the chef had an emergency. I was surprised but no problem, we ordered. Our food came quickly and at 8:15 we were told we would need to pay and leave by 8:30. We were seated outside and said we would pay but that it was unacceptable to ask us to leave right after getting our food. The waiter said we had to leave because the dishwasher was also leaving at 8:30. I asked to speak to a manager and the waiter said the manager wasn’t there. I completely understand that emergencies happen but that I would be allowed to order and then shooed away is unacceptable. If I was told the timeline before I ordered I would have gone elsewhere. I think Macon is on its last legs. There were only a few tables seated and it seemed like staff wanted to leave early. Again, I understand that things happen but for everyone to have an emergency and need to leave is fishy.

                                Great concept to mashup French and southern! The place was empty for lunch but that gave us a table at the window. Lovely space. Food selection was good. Salad for the Benedict was tasty but heavy on the dressing. The eggs Benedict was good but bacon was tough, not crispy. The price for food was reasonable. The service was pleasant enough. Ambiance was very fun and nice, kinda place you can have a quiet meal with a friend

                                We were there for Sunday brunch. The restaurant was not at all crowded and yet they did not seem to have enough help. Poached eggs overcooked; French fries soggy. Disappointing.

                                We had not eaten at Macon in a couple years and were delighted with our dinner there. Left us regretting that we had not been back before then! Not a wrong note anywhere in the evening. We will not be long in returning.

                                Great ambiance, service, and food in a pre-movie dinner for three. Great hot soup on a night of exceptional winter chill. Three different seafood entrees for three different diners, all excellent. Efficient, friendly, non-obsequious service that knew how to time things, so all was done before time to leave for the movie house. Bustling, cosmopolitan, but polite, non-noisy crowd provided stimulating dining backdrop.
