MacKenzie's Chop House Ratings and Reviews
We were seated in the bar which was ridiculously loud. On one side of our booth was the bar with the blender and people talking over the blender and on the other side was an area where dishes were being bused which was constant clanking and waitstaff talking. We could barely hear each other across the the table. Our dinners were good, but, our waitress forgot one of our desserts and the other dessert, a New York Cheesecake, was pretty much inedible. Unless you want to be part of the bar crowd, insist that you not be seated there for dinner.
MacKenzie’s consistently delivers a quality experience. The service was outstanding for us as Kevin provided top notch attention without being overbearing. Two of us enjoyed the Sea Bass and it was light, creamy and very tasty. Another had the Cioppino and while he wasn’t as happy as those with the Sea Bass, he didn’t leave a drop in the bowl so it must have been pretty good. I also added the French Onion soup to my dinner and really enjoyed it. They have a unique take on that dish. For some, it might have a little too much bread and too little soup but I still found it well flavored and hearty enough. The atmosphere was louder than usual the night we went but that was attributable to a large group of women that were seated close to us and having a good time. Normally, MacKenzie’s is on the quieter side which is nice for a business dinner where you need to have some conversations.
This was my first time to Mackenzie’s and I was very disappointed. The service was good and my waitress was very nice, but for $150 for my meal was unacceptable. My steak was not cooked to how I requested it, and my steamed asparagus and mashed potatoes were subpar. Will not be back.
The Cesar salad was totally unremarkable. Mainly just chopped lettuce with a SMALL bit of dressing. Disappointing. We tried to order quiche, but the reason for it non availability was not clear— as if the server was trying to make up reasons.
They can and must do better.
We had previously been to MacKenzie's but this was limited to only the bar, which was good. This time we experienced drinks and meals in the regular dining area. Despite being very busy the ambiance/atmosphere was good, our server was great, and the drinks and food were perfect.
We highly recommend this fine restaurant, but consider obtaining reservations in advance.
We went here off the other reviews and didn't want to go to a typical chain restaurant. The food was delicious, great service and good environment. The servers and bartenders were great! I will for sure go back. If I had to say anything negative I would say the mushrooms were too salty but other than that the food was great!
Great atmosphere especially for a special night out with your spouse. Make sure to tell the waiter that you want the Happy Hour price or you will be charged the regular price if you are sitting at a table. This should be automatic, and the waiter didn't change it back to the lower price once we figured it out. That's not cool. It is a little pricey, so save it for a fancier event. Medium rare is very close to rare there, so Medium may be a wiser choice for steaks. Overall a good experience though.
We have visited many times and always enjoyed the evening. On this occasion the waiter served the wrong dinner to my wife (not what she ordered), but the alternate was good and the waiter adjusted the price. We will continue to return to MacKenzies for special occasions.
This was our first visit to Mackenzie's, on a Friday evening. It was relatively busy, so I'm glad we had a reservation. They specialize in steak items, but there were several other good selections available on the regular menu, plus they had a weekly menu with some good selections. It's a bit pricey, but the food and service were excellent. My companion had prime rib and declared it the best he'd ever had. I had the salmon, and it was quite good - I really like the vegetables and broth it was served in, which gave the rather bland tasting salmon a bit more flavor. We opted not to have an appetizer or dessert that evening. We will likely return within the next 2-3 months.
We have lived here for 3 yrs and waited for a special occasion to dine in the restaurant, we have head great reviews from friends and family members...but, i have to say that the food was “NOT-up-to-Par”! I ordered the Bone-in Ribeye medium. The outer rim of the steak was great, but the center of the steak was cold, the mashed potatoes were very “lumpy and without any taste” . I refuse to send a steak back to be “recooked on the Grill”. It should have been prepared correctly the first time!
The restaurant as a whole was a great experience, but the food wasn’t! We will not dining at your restaurant again.
Went for 31st anniversary. My Bison steak was cooked perfectly and hot when served. It wa delicious. My wife's New York Strip was cold, bland, and not juicy, although it was cooked correctly. Wished it could have been perfect for anniversary. They got half of it perfect.
